Would you pay a subscription to play GW2?
If it meant no gem store, then yes. I personally much rather pay a subscription for a game than have a way in it to convert real money to game money.
I don’t see what’s the big deal with subs anyway. If you can’t pay 10 € a month for example, then appearently you don’t care much for that game. I’m only a student with a side job in supermarket, not rich at all, but I don’t mind paying a sub.
Hi
Absolutely not, my wife would kill me.
No. I’m too casual to pay a sub. While I do like the game enough, it would be a waste of my money.
Would you pay to breath? Would you pay to have to talk to strangers?
Other pointless questions at 11
Quite honestly, I will never in my life again pay a subscription fee to play a game. I did it for years playing WoW, and looking back the notion now seems ludicrous to me. Think about it, you pay money just so you can keep playing a game you already paid for. It’s bloody ridiculous.
I love the flexibility of not having a sub fee. I can choose to support the game when
1) I want to show my support and approval of what they are doing with the game and
2) When it fits in my budget
MY choice, MY budget. It’s the only way to play games now.
No. Subscriptions have gone the way of the dinosaurs. I haven’t paid a game subscription since SWG.
Had ANet charged a subscription fee, they would not have gotten my $80.
Current game state with all the issues with gear, legendaries, DR, nerfing anything worth while and all the bugs. NO WAY! Would be my answer.
If everything was fixed and running smoothly and massive content were ti be released constantly, then yes I would 100%.
Bottom line is the game has way to many issues to go that route.
I probably would.
I feel like I’m getting so much good entertainment from GW2 for so cheap, it’s kind of ridiculous actually.
I’d spend more in the gem store but I’m not into a lot of the stuff in there, I just play for the best gameplay and PVP.
Definitly wouldnt. The game suffers to much from non existent or broken content. Its nice to play it here and there because it looks beautyfull but the mechanics are mediocre and there is little long term motivation to keep playing and playing.
Besides legendary are kinda a pay 2 win system wich sucks. I know they are just for visual but seeing them as the only thing to strive when you reach 80 is a turn off. You have either the option to hardcore grind or just pay some money for gold – for me it goes indirectly in the pay 2 win direction.
Hi
Absolutely not, my wife would kill me.
Daily reminder: Dont marry.
On topic: No, I would not, because the game is lacking a lot.

I got this game for wvw. It’s been like 6 months since the game launched and 0 content has been added to wvw. What’s worse is that content was taken away (orbs) because anet did not want to spend resources to fix the issue.
There was supposed to be wvw content in Nov. It got pushed back for christmas pve event. Then it was supposed to be Jan and it got pushed back to Feb. Now, it’s getting pushed back further to March.
If the game were subscription based, I would probably have stopped playing a long time ago.
The day this game get subscription is the day i quit there are other free to play bug free games out there.
I wouldn’t pay a sub for GW2 but these days that is true of all MMOs. I just wait for them to go F2P which seems to happen faster and faster. If I take a break for a few weeks from a subscription then I don’t feel I’m getting my monies worth. In that case I tend to stop subbing and rarely come back.
I liked the model for GW1. You pay for the expansion as you would a normal game if you wanted that content. Then you played for free. If they had kept up releasing expansions it works out the same as paying a sub if you buy each one as it comes out. There is also the cash shop.
As long as ANet stick with the Living Story stuff and don’t do any more “7am Monday Lagfest” events then I will happily keep buying expansions.
An interesting comment from the team behind Planetside 2 went along the lines that 10% of the players are paying for stuff, the other 90% are providing targets for that 10% to keep them playing. Difference here being we all bought the box at $60+ and a chunk of us no doubt use the cash shop as well. GW2 does not need a monthly sub.
Not with the way WvW has been an after thought. No.
Nope, GW2 is one of “spend less, but get many” type. Turning it into P2P will force this game to compete with FFXIV Real Reborn (which suprisingly has the same graphic as Gw2, maybe bit smoother but quite same on overal), and it’s not healthy to compete with already known worldwide brand. Paying monthly will force me to stick a glue on my chair though and it ain’t fun at all (just like my experience with swotr). Current stat are far much better.
@Domely: same problem, but different person.

No i bought it as i knew there would be no monthly fee.
if i wanted to pay a monthly fee i would play wow.
If it meant getting more quality content, more support (substantial content patches) and all the creature comforts that (should) come with a subscription (*cough*bank space*cough*).
Hell yes.
If this game was subscription based, would you be willing to pay to play this game monthly? Why or why not?
Do you think GW2 would have flopped if it was launched as a subscription game?
Before November 15th patch, definately. And I would have spent some money in the cash shop. I had THAT much fun. After November 15th, no.
Good updates last patch, good ones coming today..although again I just question some of their design direction. Why make art of war 5 the requirement for the first guild mission? Why not tell us at release that our exotics will be replaced by ascended if ascended was always intended(rhymes). Just a lot of grey areas with this dev team, a lot of questions, a lot of concerns. When I start to question a developer’s direction, I tend to leave the game. So no, I wouldn’t pay for a sub right now.
In its current state? No.
Would I pay a subscription for any videogame ever again?
No.

I would never pay a subscription again. Ever. All I had to do was look at Blizzards financial statements to make up my mind. Every dollar I gave them, they took 80 cents of it and gave it the shareholder. 20 cents on the dollar paid for thier entire buisness.
Thats why so many other companies tried to emulate them. All they saw was the money. Nothing else.
LOL NO! if it had more players than I wouldn’t mind. But with gw2 low populations and the game just slowly dying I will just quit if they put a subscription fee and I know they won’t do such a thing.

Quite the contrary. With GW2’s healthy population and slowly increasing, this wouldn’t have happened with a sub.

My willingness to pay monthly subs has been on the decline even before GW2 came out, and GW2 outright killed it, as it showed that even high-quality games don’t need to be P2P to be great.
I will never, ever, pay a monthly sub again.
Nope, and no subscriptions was the deciding factor when I bought GW1.
quick answer – no .
Its good as one time purchase but hardly worth 15 or more euros each month.
