Q:

So it’s my understanding a lot of people don’t like the WvW and PvP aspect of the game and was recently wondering why, or what the most common reason is?

Do you just not enjoy PvP in any games?
Teamspeak requirements during a lot of times for WvW?
Don’t understand it?
Was flamed at?
Etc.

Just looking to understand a bit more.

PvP just inst my thing…never has been. Yes, I’ve tried pvp and wvw in GW2. No, I did not find either to be all that exciting. Of course, Anet seems to be pushing everything in that direction, which just means I will be finding something else to play.

I dislike the PvP on this game because of a few reasons.

1) It’s structured and too organized. Having played Runescape back during 2004-2006, I’m pretty sure I’m never going to experience better player v.s player combat than the days that my heart was beating out of my chest as I narrowly escaped a huge team by logging out with a blinking red HP bar. To me, sPvP on GW2 is comparable to how the duel arena was on RS. It may be interesting/fun for a match or two but afterwards it’s just stale.

2) It’s too safe. If I’m going to fight other players, I want to be able to risk. The idea of being able to wear everything I want, change anything I want, do whatever I want, with no consequence associated to failure makes it boring to me. I want to have a reason to be cautious and feel encouraged to try as hard as I can to survive; these new rewards don’t matter to me at all or improve anything. Why? Because they don’t make the PvP any more fun. The only reason I feel like doing it is for the rewards and I’m sure a ton of people are doing it for the same reason.

3) PvP on here is just capture the flag/condition spam with other people tbh. If you somehow miraculously come up with a way to fight a person 1v1 without 2-3 others dogpiling you, you might have a decent time… but hardly does that ever happen in random matchups.

As for WvW, my biggest complaint honestly is just that the 3 borderlands are the EXACT same maps. They’d be a hell of a lot more fun if they were all unique maps to venture around.

Pre-patch I absolutely LOVED roaming on my warr in zerk, but now it’s so much less effective that it’s to the point where I’m sacrificing without enough to gain for it to be worthwhile.

Haven’t tried on my Ele yet because of the patch; I feel lost. Don’t know what to do now and feel discouraged to even try anything. I preferred zergs with my staff ele because of how much carnage I could do with lava font/meteor showers etc.

To shorten things up, I think WvW is often pretty fun but roaming won’t be as much anymore thanks to the patch, at least for me.

I don’t enjoy combat when I hit kittenty damage, it’s just not for me.

Those are the two big ones for me.

WvW is really hard for me to get into because

It’s a never ending zerg. It might be better for me if it was timed and lasted like 2 hours or something (that’s why I liked Edge of the mists). At the moment it kind of feels like it lacks a goal. I would prefer to play something like Alterac Walley and not Planetside 2 in a more traditional fantasy setting if you know what I mean?

sPvP… Lacks modes. It always has to do something with points, except for one map where it’s just zerg in the middle to score more kills. It’s never king of the hill, fetch the flag, etc.

I found sPVP boring. I’m thinking it has something to do with the game mode. If it was more CTF, or a Deathmatch I might find it more fun.

I do enjoy WvW, and will be playing more of it now that WXP is account bound. Before, it was hard not to play my rank 200 Mesmer, because switching to my rank 12 Necro just lacked the WvW traits. Now that doesn’t matter.

I’ll start off by saying I’ve only played GW2 for about a week, switching servers to find a decent population and got locked out because of teh server transfer time limit so have to wait a week or whatever before I can play again. I never play MMOs if they don’t have PvP. PvE is far too mindless for me. Killing 50 walking, talking mushrooms to lvl up/complete quests is simply put dull as hell. GW2 has much more interesting, entertaining, and purposeful PvE than the usual MMO (WoW) but I am still very much focused on PvP. The only reason I got GW2 was cause of teh WvW. Thought it would be like Warhammer Online but better. However, while I enjoy GW2, I have to admit I am disappointed with it. It needs more features added, more polishing IMO.

-WvW is designed for far too many people, and even though everyone is lvl’d to 80, gear and more advanced abilities make that fact utterly pointless. Players with lower lvl abilities and less/worse pvp gear will lose just as a lvl 10 fighting a lvl 80 would. It is imbalanced as hell and the maps are too big. Wandering around for 10-15 mins just to get owned in a 1v1, ambushed by Thieves, or nuked by a zerg is not an entertaining use of time. I detailed some good suggestions that would help fix these issues here;

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/New-player-s-experience/first#post3884667

- The PvP matches are pretty generic. You are lvl’d to 80 so there’s no advancement. I asked, and was told you don’t even get XP and I was expecting to be able to lvl up purely off PvP in GW2 like in WAR. But, it beats having to wait ages in queues and getting owned by people camping the highest lvl in lvl brackets like in most other MMOs.
