Thanguard, it counts the Daily achievements that are for the Halloween as part of the Meta. You actually don’t have to touch PvP at all to complete the meta event.
If that turns out to truly be the case, I’ll be staying well away from PvP then, and be all the more happy for it. If not, well I’ll be in some 1v1 trading kills (the 20 I need to the stupid achievement) and then never touch PvP again till another meta forces me to.
Aerlen, he’s right about 1 and 2. You don’t HAVE to do PvP unless you want every achievement point, and Hotjoin is where I got all my kills when I actually wanted to PvP for the AP.
You can use stomps on the NPCs, that’s where I got mine but few people know that and I can’t blame them for taking turns killing each other for points either. It’s cheap but it’s not cheating.

No, it’s literally cheating.
Again, I don’t see why people have to be all kittened-off about stuff that has no effect on them. Maybe some people think it would be FUN to stomp their FRIENDS with halloween stuff in PvP. Heaven forbid people should have FUN in a game.
Personally, when I realized the dailies count toward the meta, I decided to stay out of PvP. If I get a chance to stomp some players in WvW, great! If not, I’ll get the meta anyway. I’m thankful… oh so thankful… that the JP is not required, since those are truly excruciating for me… like really… I’d rather be killed 100 times over in PvP.
However, please… there are enough things (seemingly) to complain about in this game. This does not need to be one of them.
The only way that this should ever be an issue at all is if the PvP server instances were all full, and people were waiting for one to open up.
And I can say that has never been the case when I have looked at them.
Again, I see no problem with what these people are doing.
They are effecting nobody but themselves.
From what I have seen so far on this thread, people are basically complaining that they are ruining the ‘spirit’ of sPvP. While it’s a valid opinion… it’s just that. An opinion. One that I, and many others on this thread, don’t agree with…
Personally? I applaud the people who want to play the game their way, whether that includes dealing with PvP or not. I would rather they do their thing on an empty PvP server then deal with the /real/ cheaters who use speed and zoom hacks in WvW.
Last, but certainly not least, I can hardly blame people for not wanting to touch PvP. The reputation it has gained through the people that do it is hardly welcoming. Is it a fair reputation?
Probably not.
But I can say from personal experience spanning over a decade of playing various online games and generally being treated like crap by ‘leet PvPers’ that it sure feels like it…

“It doesn’t affect you” is a typical argument of a cheater.
You are aware that the point of PvP is to kill other players, that you go there to competitively fight other players, not to farm each other. If you don’t accept rules, terms of service or anything like that, stay away from anything that has such rules.
You calling me a cheater? You, who does not know me in the slightest? Interesting.
I normally play PvE and World vs World. Yesterday I tried to get my A Stomping Good Time achievement in sPvP. I did not know I was supposed to capture a point and one guy told me to “Capture the point you idiot.” And my experience in sPvP is kind of like the community of Call of Duty where people are quite friendly.

I wish ‘idiot’ was the worst I have heard in PvP…
I also wish the oh so ‘friendly’ people would just go back to Call of Duty and League of Legends and stay there.

I’m not calling you a cheater.

I kinda think you did.
Just because I do not agree with your point of view does not make me a “cheater”. I try to look at things from different points of view, and I do respect everyone’s opinion and that they are certainly welcome to express it. But please do not assume you know anything about how I play or what kind of person I am.
I BELIEVE that if people are having fun stomping their friends in PvP and it does not harm your enjoyment, then there is no real issue. I BELIEVE that Anet wants people to enjoy playing this game and that maybe some people take it too seriously.

That stinks! I was called an idiot once in PvE for doing an event “the wrong way”… I have also been told to get lost from people who were using a dynamic event for their own “personal” use?! To me, that type of behavior is way worse for the community and for the spirit of the game than some people going to an empty PvP area and killing each other for 5 minutes to get an achievement.

I think I didn’t. I’m just explaining the nature of the argument you use.
If people are having fun stomping their friends, they can go to custom arenas and do just that. When they enter a live arena, they should either fight or gtfo and play Hello Kitty Online.

Were they holding up others who wanted to use that arena?
Was there no other open arenas for people to use?
Where they making it so that ‘real PvPers’ couldn’t be their jolly old selves.
The answer is no, they were not.
The only thing they were doing was playing the in a way that you don’t happen to agree with.
Too bad for that, eh?

Toxic attitudes like yours are the reason many people avoid PvP. All I’ve seen you cry is “it’s cheating when I say so but other things which are also cheating the game are not cheating because I say so and people should not play the game the way they want to because it upsets me because for some reason, PvP is sacred.”
Right.

The only thing they were doing is trying to evade PvP in a live PvP arena to achieve a PvP objective. Out of all full maps they chose to go to the one where they would never actually fight players. Cheaters.
@AntiGW, if avoiding those that have attitudes as some on this thread it is completely understandable. And they cannot be blamed for not wanting to be around those who do nothing but whine and tell them how bad they are. Not saying I agree or disagree if it is right or wrong. But the attitudes of some is what kills pvp more than any single other issue in pvp.
@ShinjoNaomi, yes there is a vocal minority that do nothing but bleed pvp dry as much as possible for their own selfish reason. But there are many more that imho do not behave that way. imo the majority do not behave in a childish manner. Its just hard to see that when everytime someone goes into pvp when the minority cant shut up long enough for you to see the chat from those who wants pvp to improve greater than what it is today. I do feel it is an unfair assumption on pvp.
One word simplifies the answer to why it doesn’t matter lol. HOTJOIN. That is what hotjoin is for and its not competitive in anyway shape or form. Even solo que is more competitive that it. If you want to be really competitive do solo que/team que.
@OP
You’re going to have a hard time getting a proper response here.
General Discussion is a PvE player dominant sub forum, so they’re all going to disagree with you.
And PvE only players share the same mind set as one another:
- “I shouldn’t have to PvP to get things designed for PvP.”
- “PvP players should have to PvE to get PvP related things like skins”
And better yet:
“I shouldn’t have to WvW for world completion for my legendary, but WvW players should have to PvE for their legendary”
They have the most backwards logic.
I don’t think PvE players think WvW players SHOULD do PvE for their legendary. It’s Anet that decides what you must do to achieve something. I clearly see that there are people who only want to PvP and WvW and I agree that it should not be necessary for them to force themselves to do PvE for a legendary.
Personally, I’m happy to have started playing WvW, which I probably wouldn’t have done if it wasn’t necessary for world completion (I’m not going for a legendary, I just like to complete things). It’s the most fun I’ve had in this game.
If that turns out to truly be the case, I’ll be staying well away from PvP then, and be all the more happy for it. If not, well I’ll be in some 1v1 trading kills (the 20 I need to the stupid achievement) and then never touch PvP again till another meta forces me to.
No offense, but is sad, that a “PvP-player” (actually, I play PvE, too) has to explain you, how PvE meta achievements work.
Maybe you should read this:
“Halloween-themed daily achievements will also be available until November 11 and contribute to the meta achievement.”

On this “cheater / exploit”-discussion. I’d like to say some words:
PvE is about playing together. There is no “real” competition between the players (If you don’t count things like who has the most AP/Gold/Legendaries). If there’s a faster / cleverer way to get gold / do an instance, everbody can use it and it probably don’t harms anybody (…if rly everybody would use it, due to inflation, nobody would profit, either, but that’s another issue).
PvP, as its name already says, is basicly about competing against each other. Of course, you can play in a guild or group, but you will still have “rivals / opponents”.
This is what PvP is about. Nope, not what it’s about in my “special rule-set”, competition is the core of PvP. Of course nobody needs to fight until death and you dont need to be as much cruel / the biggest kittenbag as possible, but still it is an competition.
PvP without competition is probably, like you would imagine PvE where instead of killing NPCs / making dungeons, there’s just some infinite lootbag lying around and whoever presses the lootbutton as fast & often as possible, will get the most.
I decided to put this thread into the “Discussions”-section, as in the PvP-section, I suppose there wouldnt be that mutch discussion at all.
This are the differences between PvP and PvE and why killing each other is seen by many as exploit / cheat.
Look, I get your complaint, I do. A bunch of folks standing around killing each other for achieves is cheap but I seriously cannot blame them. Do you see how the game itself makes people need those points for LS things/game play? Do you see the behavior here that makes no one wanna touch PvP?
I get that PvP is all about competition, so petition Anet to remove PvP Dailys/Monthlys and PvP achieves in Living Story (they aren’t about the spirit of competition) or replace them with PvP only rewards and I promise, you will only see PvPers in your arenas.
Were they holding up others who wanted to use that arena?

I think Aerlen has summed it up in the post above yours…

At this point, you have made it very clear that anyone who isn’t playing the game the way you want is ‘cheating’, regardless of what anyone else says about it.
But thank you very much for once again showing why I generally avoid PvP. I guess I’m ‘cheating’ because I would rather avoid being verbally abused and treated like garbage…
… which leads to this…
@danielrjones
I would honestly /love/ to believe that the majority of players who partake in PvP do so in a friendly way in the full spirit of healthy competition.
That it was just some little minority of of obnoxious 12-year olds who get off on making other people unhappy and treating them like garbage simply because they can get away with it over the internet, that are ruining things for the greater majority.
Honestly and truly, I would…
But after 10+ years of being insulted, verbally abused, shouted at and threatened from everything to having my game account hacked to my very /life/ (yes, I honest to god wish I was exaggerating on that one!)… you’ll just have to pardon me for being jaded…
The games are different. The names change. But the attitudes and endless oceans of hostility I have encountered have been the same every friggen time…
To make it clear, yes, I know for a fact that the same obnoxious griefers are in PvE as well. The difference is I can ignore them there, without having to worry about them trying to gank me because I hurt their itty-bitty egos…
I was wondering when threads would pop up like this for GW2, I figured the ‘everything is OP but me’ whine would hold it off for longer.
It reminds me of the GW1 pvp players towards the end where the biggest complaint about the game was PvP was dieing and why wasn’t Anet doing anything about it but then if you actually went into random arena and to try out builds and learn how to PvP you would just get bombarded with ‘noob’ ‘l2p’ ‘why aren’t you doing this’ ‘go back to PvE’ before those guys logged off and went back on forums to lament how no new people were coming into PvP.
I don’t know the answer but I don’t pvp at all in this game. Since it felt like pvp and pve is a completely different game.
If it is a completely different game, I might as well play a completely different pvp game.
The thing I like about mmorpg is it is a bunch of mini games which have an affect at each other. Which is why I actually pvp in other games since I get reward which I can use in pve but I don’t do it in this game.
I might as well just go play league of legend.

“Not playing the game my way” is not cheating. Going into a secluded PvP area with your friends to farm each other without actually fighting is cheating. See the difference?

And why remove PvP Dailys/Monthlys? AP are something, PvP players can need, too (Skins).
Some people here try to tell me, “I complain that people don’t play pvp the way I think pvp should be”, but actually, if PvE players say that they “need” PvP Dailys/Mothlys or this Living story-Achievement, they basicly say “I want this achiement by playing the game my way”, no matter if the sense of the achievment is completly different".
I hope you see the difference.
It is like I would say, “I only play Citadel of Flame, but I want the Arah Weapons, so make Arah Weapons able to get bought for CoF-tokens”.

Those are two different things and if I had not gotten the Mad King stomps, there would have been no Bloody Prince for me today. One thing I’ve learned about GW2 is to get my achieves and get them fast, the community loses interest about a week in so I seriously cannot blame or fault players for not playing PvP as a competitive killing sport to get that achieve and get on with the Living Story ASAP.
If they are intentionally farming each other than that goes against the spirit of the gamem mode and should be banned. Other games do not encourage such a gamestyle.
Indeed. This is exploiting.
Uhm.
Why can’t you blame the players if the community loses its interest in LS fast?
Aren’t the players what the community is built of?
And getting the stomp achievement by “farming” or actual pvp isn’t a huge time difference.
You either spend some minutes in it and farm, or you play some matches, which probably wont cost you 1 hour.
Were they holding up others who wanted to use that arena?

No, the only thing I keep seeing is you name-calling because people aren’t playing the game the way you want.
Candy coat it however you care to, but that’s what you are doing while trying to ram your opinion over my head.
I’m just going to assume at this point the only thing you are doing is trying to get the last word in on an argument by continually baiting the same nonsense over and over.
So I’m going to finish this by simply saying, if they were truly cheating, then they should have been reported to Anet for such.
Not have a thread opened up about it on the forums for the angry PvPers to come here and QQ about how their ‘sacred PvP’ was being desecrated by filthy little PvEers looking to avoid the crappy attitudes, bile and venom that tend to all too often get spewed around when players fight against other players.
As far as I’m concerned, this conversation is done.
^Who is now trying to get the last word in an argument? ;D

Oh shut up. They are getting their laurels a bit faster. There are plenty of arenas that are empty they do it in, just cause you jumped in on them doesn’t mean they have to accommodate you.
No, the only thing I keep seeing is you name-calling because people aren’t playing the game the way you want.

Cheating is not, and never has been, a way to play this game. Cheats and exploits have always been removed by Arena.net. This one is most likely somewhere on their list, though not at the top.
This is not “my opinion” either, this particular form of cheating has a name: stat padding. It was always called cheating. It was cheating 10 years ago, and it is cheating today.
Cheating cheating cheating cheating cheating cheating cheating
cheating cheating cheating cheating cheating cheating cheating
Get it? Cheating.
Congratulations, you baited me into saying one more thing…
-slow claps-
Stat padding? Seriously?
From people who likely have no interest in PvP outside of getting those APs, if that?
A flimsy straw to grasp, to say the least.
Sorry to break it to you, but repeating your -opinion- (and thats exactly what it is, regardless of what you want to believe) ad nauseam does not make you any less wrong.
But go ahead, keep name-calling.
Maybe that will help keep those PvP areas nice and empty.
So, you say: “there should be an easy way to get something in this game, if you aren’’t interested in it that much”?
I am not interested in having a legendary. So this means, there must be an easy way for me to get it, or that I should be allowed to cheat/hack/buy gold from ebay, in order to get the legendary?
If there’s AP for a PvP achievement → play pvp.
If you don’t want to play pvp, you should accept that you wont get those AP and not try to get those AP via exploits.
I actually find it astonishing that not only there are players that think it is ok to abuse the mechanics thus, but they would even try to present those who complain about such abuse as the bad guys here.
I do not do PvP so naturally, I do not get achievements like this. If I felt I “neeeded” them (another odd concept) I would put my head down and PvP to get them. If I could not, then tough luck. Sorry but all the “games forcs you to grind” and " It doesn’t affect you", “I play my way” just reminds me of spoiled children. If one does not understand the concept of rules in a game, they should play in their own backyard, not in an MMO with other people.
So let me ask this question to those who think it’s cheating.
Let’s say that a PvE’er who wants achievement points and is trying to be on a PvE leaderboard, wants the PvP achievement points too. Keep in mind PvP already has it’s own leaderboard.
So what you’d rather have is a guy who is absolutely godawful at PvP going into a PvP arena and screwing up your game to get his points? Do you think you’d be happy to have that PvE guy on your team?
I used to do that. I used to PvP to get my daily PvP achievements, but I stopped because I wasnt’ enjoying it.
Now, I could go into an empty arena just to farm those points (I don’t). But I know for a fact that any team I joined to do it legitimately would suffer…and I don’t have enough interest to look up SPvP specific builds or “get better” at SPvP.
So what you’re arguing for is either guys on your side who suck or guys you can essentially get cheap free kills from.
Is that really better?
Anet needs to remove SPvP achievement points from the general leaderboard. That would solve that problem fast.
let them come. more points for me just as firstborn marshal trahearne predicted

I have a feeing that PvEers are going to be unmoved by people saying it’s cheating at PvP because they don’t consider what they are doing as PvP. What they are doing is getting achieve points. That it’s in the PvP area is only because that’s where they gave to be to get those points. They are farming achieve points, not glory or kills.
To a PvEer the game is saying, go to point A and perform actions B if you want this particular set of achieve points. They don’t consider the PvP kills for this as any different than running from one spot to another on a map and interacting with items. They don’t have a PvP mindset, they don’t know PvP rules and they may be completely unaware that this is considered farming kills in PvP and that a PvPer would consider this cheating. They don’t think about PvP at all.

So let me ask this question to those who think it’s cheating.
Let’s say that a PvE’er who wants achievement points and is trying to be on a PvE leaderboard, wants the PvP achievement points too. Keep in mind PvP already has it’s own leaderboard.

There will always be guys who suck on both sides of the team (I’m probably one of them), and there will always be an option to rebalance teams.
You don’t need to be good at anything in this game, as long as you are actually playing it.
and I don’t have enough interest to look up SPvP specific builds or “get better” at SPvP.
But probably, you will need to bring some interest into sPvP(builds) if you want to get any of those achievements, as a lot of them are about winning matches / defeating players.
And atm, this discussions probably is mostly about the LS-stomp-achievement.
But there are also achievments for e.g. tournament wins, but there’s no possiblity to farm those, as you actually have to win tournaments.
Btw: Who cares about the AP-leaderbord? O.o
The only reason I would farm AP is for the chests I get every 500 points.
But just for my name being on a leaderboard?
Especially for those people, who care about their leadboard rank, I would expect that they ACTUALLY work for their AP, else, this whole leaderboard is just about “who farmes fastest”.
