“Your message was suppressed due to excessive messaging.”

I keep getting this when trying to talk in map chat or “say” chat (not really sure what else to call it). I can talk normally when whispering or in guild chat. This started to happen after I said “HALT!” three times in a row to make a reference to the game Daggerfall while messing with some guys in Lion’s Arch. It’s been more than an hour now, I’ve logged off and on, been to PvP and around, but still it says this. Why?

There’s a same topic just a couple of lines down on the first page. Why couldn’t you check that one out. Everything’s explained there.

To answer your question: 3 identical messages in a row (in a short timespan) is considered spamming. Next time just change your message a bit and you’ll be fine.

It lasts about ~15 minutes sometimes, other times about 30 seconds. It’s a great and well thought out anti-spam feature that like so many anti-bot/spam/ect features end up harming normal players more than the intended target.

I’ve rarely seen gold selling advertisement spam, but I run into this kitten message all the time in WvW.

I made a thread about it in the WvW section a while back but apparantly I’m the only person that has a problem with the system, atleast the only person that’s willing to comment on it publicly.

They need to allow players to say more than 3 lines, and preferably completely disable it in WvW. If someone is spamming you that badly, use the ignore function.

This is not correct, actually. I’ve tested it and I still run into the problem if I’ve said 3 different things. It’s all based on time frame. It does seem to kick in more often in map and team chat than in local chat.

Okay, well, with the new patch I’m no longer suppressed. It’s really sad that people are getting hurt by anti-bot or spam features like this.

Well, the only time i got this message is when i tried to equip a mining pick while holding the CTRL key .
Other than that, i never got blocked and i use map chat all the time and i type really fast, but i did get rid of my bad MSN habit where i wrote 2-3 words per line and my sentences looked like crap so maybe that has something to do with it.

And being hurt because you were spamming isn’t sad. It’s the way it should be. Hopefully you will learn something out of it and it won’t happen again.

I dont know why but Devs are ignoring every topic of this issue…

Yea this happened to me yesterday. It was really nice trying to form a group for Twillight Arbor while I was suppressed from chatting in map chat -_-

I wasn’t spamming… I was being a guard from Daggerfall. But, really, I was just talking and hanging around with friends. I should be able to say what I want with them.

All you have to do is mix up your message a little.

When looking for groups I try and make it sound a bit more interesting, as my messages have to be different to avoid the same message three times in a row.

It is also affecting email, I assume to cut down on email spam. Changing the subject line of the mail doesn’t stop the ‘suppression’.

I had a fair chunk of chef mats on my account and my guildmate wanted to level up as a chef. After about 4 mails I got the suppression notification. 1st time it cleared in less than a min. Then it was several minutes. The 3rd occurrence I had time to log out to the desktop (thought that would clear it), come hear and read the posts then log back. My 1st send went fine then I was immediately blocked again.

I know what they are doing but it’s another tedious half-tested implementation ‘anti’ measures.

yeah the spam restriction is pretty silly. I once got restricted when I was linking my friends a set of armor in WVW – did it in normal chat so we can all see, I linked the first 3 items too fast and it won’t let me link the remaining two face palm

As a guild leader who sends in game welcome emails to new guildies I have run into the message suppression far more often than I probably should have. It’s annoying because there is a character limit in email preventing me from putting all the information in one email so I’m forced to do multiple emails then I get annoyed even further by the message suppression.

You do know that you can link more than one item in one message, right?

Don’t get me wrong people, i know it can be a problem in some scenarios ( like the guild welcome thing ), but it’s either that or allowing spamming, and i for one would rather pay some attention to what i’m doing than to read endless “LFG 3/5” messages on my screen. You have to understand it’s not easy to develop a system that pleases everyone.

It might not be a perfect system but as long as you know it’s there, you can avoid it. It’s better than nothing. I’m sure it will get better in time.

This is terrible. I just got suppressed AGAIN today for saying:
“Nom nom nom”
“Fooooood”
“Goooood”
WHY?

Because its another one of those ridiculous features thats annoys legit players more the gold spammers it was intended to suppress. How does only 3 lines of text constitute spamming? I mean, seriously…

I know what you mean lol, sometimes when I’m fooling around and saying silly things I get suppressed too.

i got muted in 15 minutes on local chat for just doing common sense dungeon party spamming eg each 3min~ so stupid this is a mechanic that hurt honest players more than bots indeed.

I run into this as the manager of a guild bank, mailing stuff out to members, can only send 3 mails before I hit the counter-measures.

Yeah the “anti bot” measures are going to drive the normal players away, I know I actually like this game, but all the diminishing returns and that stupid spam message (I’ve had it while talking in pm, saying things that weren’t repeat message, so this is broken) are making me angry.

I feel completely unvalued as a customer (I even buy gems).

Actually it’s a good thing. Helps us with the map chat spammers as well as gold sellers.

I was just suppressed again for saying “Quaggan wants Halloween!” 2 times 5 minutes apart. So, no, it’s NOT a good thing.

Suppressed a second time when I said it again ONCE 10 minutes later after I became unsuppressed.

I was sending white drops (and some green for sell) to my wife for salvaging for monthly achievement and receive this message when I try to send another mail to her.

For what reason any game can decide that messages to my wife must be “suppressed”?
May be dev’s just lift this limit for mutual friends?
