Zerker is fine
ps: Im curious, can you tell me what kind of encounter would need strategy and teamwork? An example from WoW or other well known MMO’s is fine too.
AC path 2. It requires fairly exact coordination that’s frustrating as hell with a PUG.
…And that’s why speedrunners don’t do it. That path will never be “efficient”, so it gets ignored.
Basically, it doesn’t matter if all the dungeons suddenly had interesting mechanics and environmental triggers, the path of least resistance will get the most attention.
Even in WoW, there are some bosses that are little more than tank-and-spank. They serve as basic DPS gates to harder content.
+1 good joke. pls tell again.
P2 is very much a speed clear dungeon. It’s even more lolmode now after the ferocity patch. It’s more efficient than P3 which PuGs love to run.
In fact, the “efficient/fast” PuG dungeons like CoF and AC have some of the slowest paths in the whole game.
AI changes are on the way, if rumors are true, so wait and see.
About time, but I don’t think I trust Anet with their “Soon” anymore. xD
@Tree.3916 …on… “The content isn’t easy, it’s old.”
You’re absolutely right, and I feel silly for forgetting that. That’s semantics, however. More complex mechanics would go a long way in creating longevity. Everything was hard when it was new, but once people learned to stack+burn, things became trivial.
If we had, say, a 5-man version of (amber?) wurm where you had to dodge the boss while killing an add, absorbing it’s debuff, grab a harpoon, get swallowed, DPS the interior, escape, AND THEN stack+burn the now stunned boss…
That type of boss fight would arguably still be more fun 5 years from now (when everyone knows the mechanics) than the current stack+burn strat we have for everything else.
This 100 times.
Sorry Dalanor, but I think we simply cannot agree on this one.
I don’t see all this “great mechanics” you speak about, and I’m faaaar from the only one, nearly all the people I play with have stopped playing PvE long ago, because of it’s triviality. PvE (and that includes dungeons) is stack and dps, even if dodges/luring sometimes comes into it.I can say that GW1 content was a lot different because of the way combat worked there. Stats were not bound to armour so there wasn’t a “BEST” stat set. You could choose for a more tanky, more dpsy set-up but that was about it.
The thing Xenon describes is what I would like to see. Give us something that takes effort, and not simply a huge healthbag.
I understand that from here on it’s necessary to stop giving negative criticism and start giving positive in the form of a suggestion of HOW to make it better.
A good way to start would be this: give mobs a dodge option, give mobs 10 skills and an elite, give bosses their own special elite you can capture as a certain class. This alone would make dungeons 1000x more interesting.
I have tried starting threads to positively discuss the possible features and mechanics of instanced raids in the game, but people come foaming at the mouth to destroy me every time.
I mean the idea is simple. Let’s say the game needs to have trivial/casual content to please certain demographics and give us something non-stressful to do. Many dungeons fill that right now.
Rather than try to overhaul all dungeons from the ground up, they could start adding (one or a few at a time) instances for 8-10 players that function exactly like dungeons, but have bosses with more complex mechanics. There would be no gateway to entry, anyone can do it, this has nothing to do with elitism, gearscores, dps meters, achievement points, nothing. All it is, is a new type of content for PvE to diversify and expand the endgame with content that is more engaging and fun.
Rewards could be like fractals: small chances of exclusive skins and ascended gear. They could possibly be organized as a guild mission. Heck, they don’t even need to be 8-10 players. 5-man could work, it just needs to be set apart from normal dungeons because the idea is to add more fun and challenge via special boss mechanics.
Oh but you mention the word “raid” and OMFGBBQ HERETIC BURN THE WITCH!!!!11one
Raids would be sick. I don’t doubt that a lot of players would be down for them.
Don’t get it confused though. While the instanced PvE content is stale now, it also hasn’t seen any love from Anet. The dungeon sub has been notoriously ignored as well as many suggestions to improve instances and gameplay.
Ninja patches muck things up more than fix actual bugs. Now, this content was difficult when it released but it’s a 2 year old game with no new dungeons. Of course people know how to run them.
GW1’s combat wasn’t as challenging as you suggest. GW1 just kept introducing new stuff to keep players adapting. I played it since launch. By the end, all VQ was lolmode with necro/rit heroes. Assassin farming endgame lolmode as well.
@Tree
I want your opinion about this 00662 build. Why do you call it full support?
The 5 and 15 point minor in Radiance is too good to pass on, especially if you have already at least 5 points in 5 Virtues (and you will have 10 due to Master of consecrations anyway) and the whole Valor line is crap. Honor traits arent too good either with a few exceptions.
My opinion is it is a horrible Strife-way build and has no place in speed clear meta team compositions. My second point is a lot of roleplayers want to pretend to be tanks or bunkers or anchors or some other term that doesn’t exist in the actual game, and so they go max honor shout cleanses and AH and roleplay as tanks or paladins or whatever they are into.
I wasn’t actually suggesting it as some kind of build worth running. The point I was making, which you seem to miss, is even if you run a trashy build like that, so long as youre capable of dodging correctly the optimal gearing is berserkers. On the other side of the coin if you’re running the far superior dps trait spread of4/5/0/0/5 but you are brand new to the game and eat every attack, it makes no sense to run berserkers unless your plan is trial by fire and giving yourself a crash course in dodging.

The meta is changing at an alarming rate!
