Also, I think people are back to over-thinking it, or chasing red herrings from overly literal interpretations.
Maybe, but we’ve got nothing better to do, and it’s fun

Well, you have fun with that. I’m back to calculating aerodynamics of a heavily armored asura with a greatsword and twenty pounds of explosives strapped to his back.
. . . better recalculate for thirty.
Lemark wasn’t much of a haggler. The merchant had taken almost every copper he owned, but it was worth it. He was positive this time, no more fakes, no more copies, forgeries or lies, this was it. He could feel it, sinister…ghostly, it felt weird to hold, but he didn’t care, his journey was one quarter complete.
His first item is very valuable and widely recognized to the point that there are already many ‘fakes, copies and forgeries’. It has some ghostly presence. It could be an important relic from the past, or an antique urn, or an ancient scroll containing a curse and being tied up to a dark part of the lore. Lemark recognized the item from the dealer and was resolved to buy it with all of his fortune.
Lemark sprinted down the alleyway, an endeavor likely to leave one examining refuse closer than generally preferable, but this wasn’t his first time. He slowed for a moment to glance behind him, merchants still chasing with guards closely behind them. He was surprised they hadn’t given up, they must be very sensitive about their heritage here, the item itself was a bit too everyday to inspire this kind of rage. “Two more blocks”, he thought to himself, double-checking the sealed, cylindrical case he carried. His attempted thievery had failed, for today, but he wasn’t going to lose what he had to the muddy waters of the bay.
He resulted to thievery because he couldn’t purchase it from the merchant. Was he refused because of not enough gold, or because he wasn’t qualified as a buyer? The item he wanted belongs to an enclosed community with a herritage that doesn’t welcome strangers. Is this item a cultutal icon? A totem? Perhaps, a religious one which was used in everyday activities, yet its theft could enrage the people. This kind of community reminds me of the Hylek, Maguuma Centaur, Tengu, wizardry town in Garrenhoff and even the wine-making abbey in Queensdale.
He failed to steal what was described in the story but it seems he had already acquired something earlier. “Two more blocks”seem to be what needed to fill up his cylindrical case.
In my conclusion, we are looking at something of significant history linked to another of a particular heritage.

?
Ok, now that my tinfoil hat is firmly back in place, I was thinking about the merchant thing. What about the Black Lion Trading Company? Evon Gnashblade disobeyed orders, killed his commander, and founded the company. This would certainly be a sore point on the heritage part. Plus it falls into the fact that it is merchants and guards (black lion/lion guards) chasing him. He tried to steal whatever it was, but failed. As far as the sealed container? I think it’s just that. A sealed container for getting out whatever it was he was going after. And this would put it back into LA, where the BLTC has their HQ, and has a very strong presense and influence in.
So to sum up. We need to aquire something from the BLTC, something expensive, and I’m guessing is not for sale (I believe the text points to something that is going to have to be aquired in a manner other than just buying it from a merchant) and need to get out without being caught.

:/ historically, event items won’t even go in the forge. You can always try it.
is “ghostly”, is sold by a merchant, isnt hard to come by, icon i basically cylindrical, is a container “case”, would be sealed (cork?) last 2 are unlike the ghostly doubloon.

“they must be very sensitive about their heritage here”
Delique family weapon ledgendary? Or some Mad King Family armor or weapon?
I just hope it’s not limited to the halloween event….
Well, “Lemark sprinted down the alleyway, an endeavor likely to leave one examining refuse closer than generally preferable” Suggests he’s stolen from someone in DR, and attempted escape, most likely, in the sewers. The sewer you can inspect in DR, just so happens to be outside of the Home of Marjory and Kasmeer, near the Dead End Bar. Lots of Merchants and Guards in DR aswell.
Just my thoughts
(edited by Haleydawn.3764)
These are my current guesses:
1. Eldritch scroll
– eldritch means eerie or weird
– rolled up it would fit nicely into a cylindrical canister
– a scroll would not be something you would want to get wet
2. Bottle of Elonian wine
– Elonian’s have a heritage they might feel sensitive about
– wine seems to be a common type item
– lots of merchants and guards around
– water nearby
I’m patiently waiting for more of the story to see what three and four might be.

The problem with that is that the story states he almost slips into the water of the bay.
Not the sewer.
I was thinking more along the lines of a city (alleys) near a bay (sounds like LA to me). Someplace where you can find “refuse” not necessarily waste…. but maybe the destroyed remains of Lions arch?

" He was surprised they hadn’t given up" They chased him for a long time, he may have ran North towards Janthir Bay

I like your #1, but I have trouble justifying it being as it was described.
If #1 is true, it pretty much specifies what one of the upcoming items is.
" He was surprised they hadn’t given up" They chased him for a long time, he may have ran North towards Janthir Bay
I highly doubt that. What would be the point of telling us he’s going into places we players can’t go?
Plus he’s clearly in a city still, there’s no known cities that far north.
And furthermore, it sounds more like he’s been chased around multiple blocks (“two more blocks”), not halfway across the countryside.
Assuming the words are exact match “ghostly” only has a couple of possibilities. “Ghost” extends the number, but not by a lot. It gets dicey if that’s not an exact match word, but I can’t help but think of ectoplasm.
The second one depends a lot on whether the use of the word “bay” was intentional or not and whether or not mention of alleys was specific. There are only a few “bays” in Tyria, and none of them have anything like a city/town with alleys. If it’s a non-specific reference to a body of water directly on the ocean, it opens it up to the southern part of the map. Of the bay options, Quetzal and Ventry both have a number of regular and karma merchants. Of those, Azintli (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Atzintli) has a heritage related item.
My guess for the hinted items so far…
1. ectos, eldritch scroll or bloodstone shard, maybe offering of ascalon
2. maybe elonian wine, but probbaly something else
Some seem to confuse themselves by mixing the information parts.
The ghostly item is not the one lemark tried to steal, he already bought it.
And the cylindric item he already has is also not the one he tried to steal and probably not the one he already bought. So…
1. item – ghostly thingy
2. item – cylindric case
3. item – city, heritage, bay thing
edit 5:
Lemark was in high spirits, it had been a productive week. After a series of failures his luck had turned. He stared at his own reflection in the item, such a trivial thing by itself, but with many, there was power. Zomorros knew it as well, Lemark had seen the desire in his eyes before, this was one of his favorites.
Whatever that secret is, I’m only interested if it does involve new legendaries that are promised early 2012.
-spirits -reflection = Elonian Wine
I think it could be
Obviously it’s the coveted Legendary Tinfoil Hat.
Edit 5 makes me think about either Elonian Wine or Crystals.
The text on the Crystals is: “Zommoros loves crystals”

that’s it, at least we know one thing for sure now^^.
Mystic Coin maybe? They’re considered part of Zommoro’s favorite trades aren’t they?
Mystic Coin maybe? They’re considered part of Zommoro’s favorite trades aren’t they?
Indeed.
So that is three possibilities. Wine, Crystal, Coin.
Which reflects the most? ^^

Eldritch Scroll? – Although this costs skill points, and not copper

Elonain Wine? – also referred to as a ‘high spirit’ in the next section

Crystal – pretty sure about this one
The most recent hint is definitely a Mystic Coin:
“this was one of his favorites.”
“Coins are used to create high level weapons at the mystic forge in Lion’s Arch.
Part of Zommoros’ favorite trades.”
-In Game description
“such a trivial thing by itself, but with many, there was power”
-Most recipies use 50-250 coins, as they are trivial by themselves
I’m thinking wine is 2, as Miyani is Elonian as is the Wine, and coin 3. We don’t ever use coins in quantities of 1 (meaning insignificant alone) whereas crystals you do.
Ok. So it’s a mirror or something that reflects light.
Hm…. maybe http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Orrian_Mirror_Shard ?
Out of story hint: I’ve only referenced 2 of the components so far.
i’m curious to see where this goes.
As AMAZING and EPIC as this is… I really have to ask… why can’t this be added IN GAME? Only the few forum/reddit users are even going to be aware of this which is a bummer because, to be honest, it’s a really neat idea.
Something like this would be wonderful in GW2 itself. Where maybe, for example, a new hint is added every Tuesday by some character in the game (some Hermit Sage who randomly appears for only a couple minutes every few hours in some random zone??) I think this would fuel some cool in-game community and discussions.
Out of story hint: I’ve only referenced 2 of the components so far.
So Crystals/Coins/Wine+the Ghostly item.
My guess thus far:
-1 Eldritch Scroll (Maybe Ghostly Doubloon/Elonian Wine)
-50-250 Mystic Coins
edit 5:
After a series of failures his luck had turned. Such a trivial thing by itself, but with many, there was power.
Could this be that literal? Is it luck essences?

Only two items… one of the MF favorites… that means either mystic coin or crystals. Both reference being a favorite of zommoros.
The other one is most likely elonian wine or a scroll. Both are sold at a vendor, are expensive and could fit in a cylinder.

But Zommoros has no special feelings towards essences of luck. But he loves his coins and crystals, oh yes he does.
Remember it most likely wont be anything that "was’ exclusive b.c it will be something that new players are able to do.

Here here.
Since we’re down to a weapon and a few tonics anyways, it’s about time to restock the forge with some fresh recipes. And whatever hints we had from in-game before, no one seems to have clued in on.
Wait… cancel that last request. New stuff usually means we lose access to the old stuff! I want an Immobulus, kitten XD
Is it a skirtt? maybe a skritt is the thief
I probably die from excitement anyway long before we discover this
So th reflection was probably in the elonian wine bottle.
1 component is Luck (essence of luck)…not sure which rarity.
Ok so:
-something purchased from a merchant NPC (most likely in LA)
-Mystery heritage item/scroll (Eldritch or otherwise)
-Mystic coins.
-????
We are still missing one piece
Edit: didn’t see Johns post about the 2 items…
So let’s see…
We know he got something ghostly from a merchant and spent all his money in the process. We know he tried to steal something common involving sensitive heritage but apparently failed.
Then he had a productive week and got one of something that is a favorite of Zommoros and is powerful when you have a lot of them.
And we know it’s two items (which make sense with: bought > failed thievery > productive week).
My question is, do we even have reason to believe that what he attempted to steal is the same thing he now has from the productive week? Or is that just a red herring?
He said he only hinted at 2 components.
He said he only hinted at 2 components.
Right.
So we know 1 hint is a Item from merchants
Ghostly
Zommorors likes it
Reflection
Important to history
So 1 item is either merchant item that is ghostly and shiny or just ghostly and important while the other is coin/crystal/wine
Productive week could refer to something able to be purchased from a laural vendor…
He didn’t have enough to buy the second item (laural item), so tried to steal it, but after a productive week, was able to get it. That and he now has mystic coins to use (as I think we can agree that mystic coins are what is being referenced as far as Zommoros’ favorite.
