Zommoros told me a secret
Could part of the solution be in the name Lemark? An anagram maybe?
LeMarc was the mysterious master thief from Ocean’s 12.
This may be completely way off in left field here, but thinking about the self referential “locked thread” for hint #2, I tried a Spool of Silk Weaving Thread – no dice. Of the other vendor sold threads, only Gossamer will go in the forge. There’s currently only 1 known Mystic Forge recipe that uses Gossamer thread, that is for the Malice focus.
Productive week could refer to something able to be purchased from a laural vendor…
He didn’t have enough to buy the second item (laural item), so tried to steal it, but after a productive week, was able to get it. That and he now has mystic coins to use (as I think we can agree that mystic coins are what is being referenced as far as Zommoros’ favorite.
Jumping on your thought, what about Mystic Binding Agents which are said to be able to replace Elonian Wine (that he maybe tried to steal).
I think the thievery attempt was upon a Skritt. They are very protective of their items, often looked at as if it were junk by others, they have piles of junk/trash all over the place, every place I’ve seen a Skritt city I’ve seen tons of guards and merchants selling junk. Still working on the part about a bay.

Lemark was in high spirits, it had been a productive week. After a series of failures his luck had turned. He stared at his own reflection in the item, such a trivial thing by itself, but with many, there was power. Zomorros knew it as well, Lemark had seen the desire in his eyes before, this was one of his favorites.Clearly we’re on the right track as “spirits” refers to “ghost” and “productive” to “money” which a doubloon is . . . so it has to be part of this!
You know, i think there is no deeper meaning to it. It’s just storytelling. After a productive week Lemark had gotten his hands on the trivial, shiny things which zommoros likes which are supposedly mystic coins or crystals. No need to interpret every single word.
GRRRR!!!
I just want to know!!
As fun as this is, I can’t help but think that John is just laughing his bottom off at us :P
It’s the chain I beat you with until you
recognize my command!”
The second item (reflective, Zommy likes, simple but powerful when you have a lot) is clearly either Mystic Coins, Crystals, or perhaps Elonian Wine.
The Ghostly Doubloons don’t combine with any of these in the forge. The first item is not the doubloons.
What about the Offering or Gift of Ascalon? These are ghostly and pricey.

It said ghostly and “sinister.” I don’t think wine qualifies as sinister. If John is a crosswords fan, though, it might be a left hand reference.
These are my current guesses:
1. Eldritch scroll
– eldritch means eerie or weird
– rolled up it would fit nicely into a cylindrical canister
– a scroll would not be something you would want to get wet
– “lies” seems to imply something that can be communicated, not necessarily a thing
2. Mystic coins
– can’t be bought from a merchant, i.e. need to steal
– Elonian’s have a heritage they might feel sensitive about
– coins seem to be a common type item
– lots of merchants and guards around Myani
– water nearby
– reflective, many are more powerful than one, favorite of Zommoros
– used with Eldritch scroll in recipes and vice versaI’m (still) patiently waiting for more of the story to see what three and four might be.
Update to guess.
Im at a lost… I’ll look to you guys for more maybes to give me some ideas.

Yeah, I’m getting a bit lost too tbh. Lot of ambiguity.
I agree about the first item is Eldrich Scroll. It is expensive in a sense, and with the trend we already know what it will produce.
The second one, I think, is Mystic Coin. It is used as daily reward → a productive week could mean Lemark was able to grind the amount of coins he need. Plus, Mystic Coin isn’t sold by merchants (except from Trading Post, I know). So by trying to steal it, it would make sense to me that people will get angry.

Of course not, I’m being silly and my sarcasm is acting overtime again. I need my meds, quick, someone get me some candy corn.

Oh, how this mf riddle turned me into a zombie. i can’t even detect sarcasm anymore. I guess i stuff myself with candy corn too, until explode. I’m finally free of this curse then.

I don’t know about the first item, but I’m sure that the second item is Elonian Wine. If you want proof, just read its description.

“This is also Zommoros favorite drink.”
Heritage. Get it? =o
I’m not sure if it wasn’t posted already. XD

After a series of failures his luck had turned.
Exotic essences of luck can go into the forge
But not with Elonian wine
Bloodstone is important to history.
Here I was wondering if it was a use for Lost Heirlooms.
The Item that is constantly guarded and mundane has to be the gold back in the old lions arch bank…..and you cant get away stealing it cause the guards always knock you down.

So now we have:
- An expensive “ghastly” item.
- A cyllindrical item that’s sealed.
- A heritage-but-common item that gives a reflection. (at least, I presume the “series of failures” nods back to the failed thievery attempt)
I’m guessing:
- Eldritch Scroll (ghastly, expensive with 50 skill points)
- Elonian Wine (cyndrical, sealed)
- Mystic Coin (for reasons presented – trivial as one, common item, but used in a lot of recipies in groupes of 50+)
This is basically a very common recipe thus far. Seems the fourth item is the unusual one, if this is right thus far.
Edit:
Out of story hint: I’ve only referenced 2 of the components so far.
Ah, so the cyllindrical would refer to the first item too then. Elonian Wine isn’t very ghastly, but a rolled up scroll would be.
So I’m guessing:
- Eldritch Scroll
- Mystic Coins
Which again are very common recipe components.

You miss a part though:
Alone it is trivial, but in numbers it is powerful.
This alone makes me think Bloodstone Dust. It’s so commonplace that it’s trivial, but when combining 100 to get a Bloodstone Brick, they can be used for crafting powerful items (Ascended gear) – and in lore, Bloodstones are very powerful artifacts, and would be guarded closely even if commonplace.
But the line about Zomorros loving it points to Mystic Coins, imo.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

Hmm, perhaps that would go with the Mystic Coin theory? Making item #2 Mystic Coins.
Still not sure what item #1 would be though (the one he bought from the merchant).

As I’ve said, I think the second item is the elonian wine. The bottle reflects light so…there…fixed it for you.
Yes second item is most likely Elonian Wine. Cylindrical, sealed, can see reflection, is favorite of Zomorros.
First item is still harder to figure out.

It’s the first item that is cylindrical. He has it when he fails to get the second item on the first attempt.
Guys, remember that the first item is both ghostly and was bought for copper. I think it’s safe to assume it was bought by coins…
Anyone knows anything like that avaiable to get by spending copper?
John clarified that he’s only tipped us onto 2 of the items, so the description for item #3 is part of either #1 or #2
Yes, I caught that and edited my post. :P

The issue is that a bottle of Elonian Wine is not trivial by itself, and in numbers is not powerful.
While it is a favorite of Zomorros, so are Mystic Coins and Mystic Crystals – even Mystic Stones, I think. But amongst them, only Mystic Coins are used in good numbers.
And Duncanmix:
The first item is the cylindrical and sealed one.
The second item can reflect, is useful only in numbers, and is a favorite of Zomorros.

What do you mean? It is powerful in numbers. Have 5 bottles of wine and tell me how do you feel. =P
What if the first item is Gift of Darkness or Gift of the Moon? Maybe it’s silly of me, but I honestly have no other ideas.
About the series of failures. This could imply it is an RNG item, maybe something from Orrian chests? Something that he paid alot for, from a merchant. Now he did state that he spent his last copper, but that doesn’t mean that it HAS to be coin. Maybe a turn of phrase indicating he spent all of <instert currency> in order to get it…

edit 3 (in story form): Lemark wasn’t much of a haggler. the merchant had taken almost every copper he owned, but it was worth it. He was positive this time, no more fakes, no more copies, forgeries or lies, this was it. He could feel it, sinister…ghostly, it felt weird to hold, but he didn’t care, his journey was one quarter complete.
Posting this as a refresher for the first item^
I know someone mentioned glob of ectoplasm. I think that would fit the description. Though it’s also problematic in that there’s no mention of quantity and one glob isn’t worth that much.
We of course have the Ghostly Doubloon theory, but I don’t think that combines with most MF mats (Coins, Wine, Crystals, etc.).
Edit: What all items are listed as “unique”? Perhaps “no fakes/forgeries/etc.” is a hint about the uniqueness of the item.
Isn’t it Ghostly rather than ‘ghastly’? Makes a bit of a difference, perhaps. Some things are ghostly without being ghastly…some are both. /shrug

I don’t think it’s about globs. It has to be something really valuable.
“…no more fakes, no more copies, forgeries or lies, this was it…”
Perhaps it’s some sort of Precursor? Black Lion Trader guy could count as merchant easily. The item has great value…
“…no more fakes, no more copies, forgeries or lies, this was it…”
For some reason, this just makes me think one of the Book back items.
I think I know what it is. Spoilers, unclear but still spoilers, you are warned:
A new focus skin. Not telling more for now, but I’m pretty convinced of it. I may be terribly wrong of course, and maybe I shouldn’t read between lines so much.

Also, it sounds like the first item needs to fit in a "sealed, cylindrical case. "
I find this new and interesting, as well as some of the content in-game. I’m sure John is no more a ‘troll dev’, than you wish to be considered a ‘troll poster’, no?
But, each to their own.
edit 5:
Lemark was in high spirits.
This is a far fetch, but seems like he’s been having some elonian wine (technically not a spirit) and wine can be in cylindical package.

Interesting thought!
I guess it could be literal. =)
The first item is really hard to guess. I thought it might be Ghostly Doubloon:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ghostly_Doubloon
But I don’t see much connection…

To tell the truth, the thing i though of first was Althea’s ashes (doubt it is this, though).
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Perhaps the first two items are simply:
- Elonian Wine
- Gift of Ascalon
Though I’m sure why would there be a mention of “real thing” if that was the case.
Which means that it’s probably something really rare. Something with its own, unique name.
Sadly, I’m not sure what…
Also, I hope that the reward would be this:

Ok so what scroll(s) are there that can be falsified? Or thought of as fake?
Lemark is carrying a cylindrical case, to protect whatever he was trying to steal. And this paticular item is something that was copied and faked, but now he has the original. I am thinking scroll of some sort, but the only other scroll item aside from scrolls of knowledge is the Ancient Scroll focus….

It’s used to make pretty…‘spiritual’ weapons, I guess?
It costs 50 skillpoints so it’s not that cheap.

How so?
