Q:

…will I not be able to keep them?

I jumped through the event hoops on my guardian on the old system, going trait to trait and using daily reward tomes. I have very few skill points as a result of chasing the trait event guide to 80…

So now will I be screwed when they convert to this system, because I didn’t do many skill points since I was so busy chasing traits? If I did all of that hard work for traits not to keep them, I will be very displeased.

Don’t worry. Be happy now. Or, don’t buy gems to show your displeasure.

Why would you lose your traits? Anything you have unlocked i am sure will he kept safe. Just like the first revamp, anyone who was level 80 at the time of the update kept eveything, and didnt need to relearn them.

As far as skill points, that whole system is being changed so I wouldnt worry too kuch about it.

Whoa, the current trait system isn’t that hard. Besides the ones tied to bugged events or the ones in WvW, they are all pretty simple. The hardest part is probably the travel, being in one zone and then having to go to the other side of the world to get your next trait (which isn’t a big deal, thanks to all those nifty waypoints)

The biggest bummer is for all those players that paid for their traits. All that gold for traits because they used a bunch of tomes to level and didn’t explore. Paying for your traits is typically reserved for veteran players who have the extra gold/sp/tomes to level and create a new character.

The new system doesn’t seem like it’ll cheat you at all from your accomplishments now. You’re worrying over nothing. If you did spend all your skill points and gold on traits, that was your decision, live with it.

Per the ready-up: You get 400 hero points from leveling and need about 65 more from hero (skill) challenges to unlock everything. You cannot get hero points from consumables or additional bars of XP after 80. So if you unlocked your traits & skills by any method without doing at least 65 skill challenges, you will not be able to immediately unlock everything post-HoT.

But, remember that all the information we have is preliminary, and this would leave a great many non-PvE players unfairly penalized so I tend to think the devs will do something to prevent this issue.

I don’t get some of the comments here. Makes it sound like you bought all of the traits, never got them all or are grandfathered in.

I only have maybe 1/3 of my traits at this point, and I have been pursuing them my entire time leveling from 1 to 80. It literally took going trait event to trait event all over the map to get what i acquired, and I not even done yet.

I am doing what was designed and I will have thrown all of that time away if I don’t get to keep those traits.

As a matter of fact most or a lot of players did get all the traits for free or bought them for alts. You should be happy about getting put on an even playing field with long time players. Getting all the skill point challenges (which a lot of people do for 100% world completion anyway) does not take that long and probably is faster than getting all the traits in the current system.

Be happy about a new system which is more alt friendly/cheaper.

Ironic, isn’kitten

ArenaNet: “Hey guys, now you need to do this stuff to unlock traits!”

Player A: “Ok, I guess I’ll stop doing skill challenges and do those other things in order to get my traits unlocked.”

Some time later…

Player A: “Finally, just got all traits unlocked. Too bad I have done almost zero skill challenges, but at least I got my traits.”

ArenaNet: “Hey guys, we will rework how traits work! If you haven’t done skill challenges, you won’t have enough hero points to unlock all traits! And those things you did to unlock the traits are useless now, by the way.”

Player A uninstalls.

Be happy about a new system which is more alt friendly/cheaper.

The original system, without the need to unlock trait by trait, was significantly more alt friendly/cheaper.

True, but we don’t currently have to original system do we? Hence people should be happy that we are moving to one that will be more alt friendly in the future.

If you only have about a third of them, then you’ll have enough hero points to unlock more of the new system than you have now, from what we’ve seen so far. As often happens with expansions, the structure here is getting reworked into something that does not have a direct correlation to the current system. Instead of 65 traits, there are going to be forty-five, so it’s not a matter of them locking you out of a specific trait you had, it’s a matter of that trait simply doesn’t exist in that form anymore, and they can’t credit you with part of a trait.

My advice is to not panic. They’re still making adjustments to the system. Give feedback, of course, to help with those adjustments, but let’s see how it plays in live before we uninstall.
