is open world agony coming?
@cesmode – I hope you’re right. As I said I wouldn’t mind if all the ascended pieces had a utility infusion option. The new back pieces do not, they’re defensive. The earrings do not but you can choose offensive/defensive & the rings are the same.
So maybe I should just wait to see whether they plan to introduce versions with utility in the future. Or just wait and be patient.
As I said the inference was vague and long ago and I can’t find it anywhere. Maybe I was imagining it.
A dev’s input would be nice.

Actually they did say that Agony would be introduced into the world at a later date when FoTM was first added, but the backlash from the event most likely knocked it all on its head, on a whole FoTM did not receive a warm welcome at all and hasn’t since..
So adding it to open world would be a large error to me..
Just because infused back piece is now available outside of fractals doesn’t mean agony is coming. You can get MF infused into the piece, im sure other damage + stuff aswell in future.
You can’t get mf infused there. It’s a defensive slot, not an utility one.

^from someone who does not know what challenge means. there’s no challenge in earning AR gear, just grind. There’s no challenge when you’re viability for content is based on a stupid stat such as Agony Resistance, instead of, you know, playing good.
They should expand on content that promotes skillful play, instead of requiring certain amount of silly resistance stat.

…Agony wouldn’t be added to the past world, but added to new content/new dungeons…I don’t see the big deal as far as the gear grind, if you want to keep doing level 80 things in the past map, you can.
If you want to move onto Ascended Gear, you just buy the agony res and look at all the new content! Sorry but the “gear grind” that everyone says is horrible is already in the form Normal → Uncommon → Fine → Masterwork → Rare → Exotic → (Soon to be Ascended) → Legendary.
Thats been in from day one, move on folks, these arn’t the droids you are looking for.

given that currently agony is present in exactly one location in the game (fractals) which many players have no intention of participating in (ever) why are the items being itemized for playing in that area of the game being released elsewhere when they give no benefit over normal items in every other aspect of the game?
while im sure many will argue you can just transmute them to whatever other backpack you prefer, the same is true in reverse if they had proper upgrade slots.
this returns me to the original question of why were they itemized this way, should we be expecting every karaka to have agony in the future?
If I remember correctly, defensive infusion means you can add defensive stats such as toughness, vitality and healing power. If you have an offensive infusion slot, it means you can add power, precision or condition damage stats.
Both defensive and offensive infusions can be used to add agony resistant stats if you so desire, but if you don’t want to add agony resistance because you don’t think you are going to need it, you can opt to add the 3 defensive stats I mentioned for that particular backpiece you gave as an example.

What he said along with you can also add AR along with either healing, precision, toughness or vitality using a Mystic Toilet recipe.

Honestly, I hope not.
Ascended gear is supposed to be an optional thing. Nothing in the game requires Ascended gear except for Fractals, and that is how it was designed to be. This way you didn’t have to farm Ascended gear just to play the other aspects of the game. But if you wanted to do Fractals, you needed Ascended gear for it.
That is also the reason, at the time, that Ascended gear only dropped in Fractals (or the mats required to forge it was from Fractals). Since you only needed it in Fractals, it was the only place to obtain it. It was optional gear that was not needed outside Fractals (except if you want to get into PvP, but that’s a whole other debate).
If they were to add Agony to the open world, it would defeat the whole purpose of Ascended gear being optional, and then make it a requirement to survive in the regular world. Which in turn, would add more grind to the game as everyone would then have to grind out Ascended gear sets just to play the regular game when we never needed them before.
It would then truly add a gear treadmill as Ascended gear would now become a requirement to play the normal game, instead of just being an optional gear treadmill.
So no, I don’t want Agony in the open world.

Well, there is a point: the new flower backpiece doesnt make any sense whatsoever.
Why does it have an infusion slot? Its just a rare piece, it shouldnt have.
Why is it rare? The other backpiece with the arms is exotic.
Why cant you upgrade it just like the other backpiece?
What was Anet thinking?!
The only way it does make sense… is if open world agony is coming and Anet put it in as a “starter” to get agony resist.

I do FoTM casually but, I agree, my first thought when I saw that it was an ascended item was, “here we go…”
One thing I’ve commented on before is the apparent disconnect between what Anet seems to say and what Anet seems to do. I’m not sure if there are somewhat divided factions within Anet or what; but, I seem to run across a fair amount of both contradictory actions and contradictory information from anet – sometimes within hours of each other when they are speaking publicly.
It’s kind of strange really. I /love/ the game but, at this point, I’ve kind of just started ignoring them and just keep playing as usual.

Bleh. If open world agony is coming so they can force a gear grind, I guess I might as well start doing fractals even though a despise it.
But overall I can see them being lazy and making the Karka queen a re texture of the jade maw, and you kill little Karka and grab their shells to reflect Karka beam attack.

Vouch… down with AR and vertical progression, err… ascended gear.
If they ever do that, they will no longer get my 10, 20 or even 30 euros per month (mods can check my purchase history and see I’m not lying or exaggerating).
But I’m confident the ANet developers know better and this won’t happen.
