Did a bit of crafting to boost during certain phases. I did not buy anything from the TP to speed up crafting. Materials were obtained through loot drop while doing various event chains in each starter zone and other zones where event chains were present.

How long does it take if you were to champ train grind from level 1 to 80?

A lot longer considering you get hit with DR doing champ trains in Queensdale.

Without any Tomes of Knowledge, my warrior just hit 80 with 24 hours 30 min play.

Just last night. I took 4 crafting (JC, cooking, leatherworking and artificing) to 400. So that was 28 levels there.

Rest was just moving through maps, doing events, hearts etc. I did not set foot on the champ trains. I leveled to 33 normally, crafted the 28 levels and then finished doing all the lower level maps. Not too 100%, just doing easier hearts and getting all the waypoints.

Oh, did have a nice run of 2 levels when I saw we had very few points in WvW (on TC so normally we own a ton). Went there and we took bay, hills and all the lowlands. That was 2 levels and about 5 wvw ranks (or 7 not sure)..

That one person.

Fastest way to level without crafting or ToKs is doing WvW Zerg Blog Train. I gain like 5 levels in an hour or two of play in WvW when night-capping.

It does depend on resistance, but WvW is generally a very fast way of levelling.

I think the fastest ever was like 2 hours through crafting.

Back when I was leveling all of my toons I would craft to level 20ish. Kessex Hills centaur train until 30. Get caught up on story(35) Then go do the big centaur event in harathi that everyone zerged. If you pop food, xp booster, and the XP booster that lasts 60(?) seconds unless you kill something, you could get HUGE XP off the centaurs due to bonus XP. I’m talking 1.5k xp per centaur, it was awesome. Like 2-3 runs through it and you gained 10 levels. Then back to crafting for 20 levels. Catch up on story, then go down to Straights at the one event chain with the arrow cart defense and escort or all the way to cursed shore for penitent. Usually ran about 20-30 hours.

I find that, on average, I gain 2-3 levels each hour or so while running around exploring maps, doing events, gathering etc.

Crafting can get you 7 levels for 400 in 10-30 minutes.

So which is faster? Farming ToK or just leveling as usual? I’m doing parallel leveling right now (leveling up 5 characters alternately to 60-70, then starting story mode). I plan to master cooking for each of them, and another crafting skill unique to each character. As a side note, I find that leveling is easier/faster if you are properly geared up, compared to merchant bought items since you get better stats. Also get nourishment for the xp boost as well.

Queensdale farm probably take 50 minutes per level. so about 67 hours from 1-80.

I think there’s pros and cons to every level methods. Another way is just farm money and level through crafting. Which surprisingly is much faster.

Some methods is slower but you get other perks such as map completion.

Well.. I can easily get a lv80 in 1 minute =). (scroll to lv20 + 60tomes of knowledge).

Jk, but serisouly, i can get around of 4-5 tomes per hour on PVP e_e. So.. half of your time to get a full lv 80, even without the scroll to lv20.

I have 18 80s and I tried many different methods of leveling. You have to balance speed, cost, and fun.

The champion train in Queensdale is great at low levels, at level 5 you’ll be able to do enough damage to get gold every time with range dps. Once you get past level 30 though its not efficient at all to level this way, although if you give all your champ bags to a level 80 to open, you can make some coin this way.

Mapping zones, doing easy hearts and skillpoints, get all the waypoints while killing monsters that have high “exploration” bonus exp. How well this works is greatly dependent on your class. Warriors and guardians are very breezy since they can take a ton of damage but squishy classes like elementalists and mesmers will struggle. Gear your toon with as much power as possible, regardless. If you have a birthday bonus this is definately the way to go, focus on finding monsters with 3x+ bonus experience, i.e. monsters that haven’t been killed in an hour+.

Dungeon swapping. If you have a solid state hard drive(i.e. fast load screens) this is a very easy way to level up a character. If you do a lot of dungeons anyway, this is a no brainer. Wait until the last boss is nearly dead and switch to your alt, you get 70% of a level once everyone has skipped the cutscene. If you have a partner to hold the scene for you, you can kill the boss first, then swap. Make sure you don’t open the dungeon if you are going to do this, since it will kick everyone out and no one gets the reward. I find that Sorrow’s Embrace path 1 is the fastest dungeon for this, since its popular, takes about 10 minutes to complete, and is never contested. I play a guardian here to make sure the run is smooth. Even if you hit DR you still come out ahead at 35% per completion. No need to gear up the character, and lots of champion bags make this very profitable. This can get boring though.

Crafting. Definitely max cooking for 7 cheap levels. Will cost about 2g presently. I like to save this for the end, as it becomes pretty expensive to gear up your character in the 70s. Other crafting disciplines are considerably more expensive, 10-20g.

PvP. 1500 points and 20 silver gets you a level you can use whenever. This is the slowest method to leveling a character, but its there.

Why so many 80s? You’d be surprised how useful they can be. Say you want to farm dragonite, simply park an 80 at every boss and temple, open up Gw2stuff.com and see whats about to go down. No more showing up too late at events. Shuffle them around and you do the same event many times per day and still get the dragonite reward as the limit is once per toon per day. I also have 12 characters parked at the end of jumping puzzles so I can easily do the monthly.
