So i was watching the debut trailer from guild wars 2, and i was wondering what happend to some places that were shown in it, but are not in the game. Maybe i missed some of them (almost have world completion) and some places were early concpet so they’re a kittenanged now, but there are still some things that look really awesome and i think should be in the game. I hpe anybody knows more of these missing zones

Maybe these missing places were the proving grounds for temporary content. Or maybe they’re somewhere deep down inside that big hole in Divinity’s Reach. Or maybe (optimistically speaking) they’re somewhere beyond that unreachable gate in Brisbane Wildlands.

The table is a fable.

The most likely prospect is that all of these places are parts of the world that were later redesigned before launch. The first looks kind of Orr-ish, the second looks like it was supposed to be Black Citadel, and the third like it belongs in Lion’s Arch. Basically, these are scenes from Alpha GW2 before the zone layouts and designs were finalized and launched. They likely do not exist anywhere except perhaps on some old back up sector on one of ANet’s internal servers.

They probably haven’t unlocked these areas yet – hints of things to come!

Picture 2,3,4 are redesigned BC and LA… first picture on the otherhand looks really amazing and it is really shame that it didn’t get into the game. I think that dragon was in Fireheart Rise zone before they changed it for some reason, or maybe Cursed Shore.

First picture could be in Crystal Desert ( http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Crystal_Desert )?
But it still reminds me more of Ascalon though…

Those were all in the game during development, and evolved with time.

So they were in the game, but got changed? How can you possible think orr now, is cooler than the first pic?! I would love to have that giant dragon laying around. Maybe a dungeon? Since you can enter its mouth

I have a feeling it’s a skeleton of...Glint! Why not? – she was in Edge of Destiny novel which is recent Tyrian history. The only thing that doesn’t seem to be right is her size.

When we are first building our maps we go completely for aesthetics. Then we slowly pull them back to make the map realistically run on min spec machines. This is how most developers work. Sometimes things get ‘scrapped’, sometimes the props are changed pretty radically in the optimization process. Sometimes that means we get to make things looks better because we can pack more stuff where needed. And sometimes it means we can’t. It’s all part of the joys and frustrations of working in an evolving medium.

Khmmm Claw of Jormag….khmm I don’t have a min spec machine yet that beast event get’s me to 5fps. BUT this is not a thread about this. Will we be able to take a look at zhaitan’s corpse ever, somewhere?^^

The 3rd pic could be from the crystal desert as there is concept art from GW1 that looks very similar:

Hey, not too often you see an “environment artist” around these forums. I think you and your team (the art team) are probably the most stellar team in arenanet. Fantastic, gorgeous world you’ve created, great armor skins and awesome legendary skins/effects.

Karma is as abundant as air, and as useless as the Kardashians.

Don’t worry, that dead dragon skelly will be in dark souls 2

Fact: every Thief tells you to “l2p” when the subject is to nerf stealth.

Nah, pretty sure that’s LA. They resemble the current LA ships too strongly, and I don’t think the crystal desert has pretty palms like shown in the background. And even though broken, they’re a bit too preserved for a desert environment.

I have a low end video card and you made me feel guilty for the game missing such beautiful places Ç_Ç

Cristal desert. Once of the most misterous place in Gw. Where Humans can ascend to Heros, and Heros can try to reach the Hall of the glory.

In the beginning we have to access cristal desert to ascend and talk to glinth one of the krakatoris hero. In that time we have no idea who was Krakatoris. Also the forgotens home, I like to see that place now in gw2.

Plz anet make it happens.

We just don’t want players to grind in Guild Wars 2. No one enjoys that.

Josh! JOSH! How’s SAB doing?

“We have no first-person view because stupid people would lock into it”
“You can’t have more than 10 HS decks because that would confuse people”
“30 fps is more cinematic”

Khmmm Claw of Jormag….khmm I don’t have a min spec machine yet that beast event get’s me to 5fps.

That’s because of all of the animations, enemies and the players present there. Not because of the environment/map.

He’s an environment artist, so I don’t think he had any hand in armor skins or legendaries. And you do see this one quite often when talking about SAB. As far as I know, Josh Foreman came up with jumping puzzles in GW2 in the first place and was responsible for the Mad King’s Clock Tower, the Winter’s Day JP and SAB.

The Dragon, tbh, reminds me of Kralkatorrik whom you can see asleep next to Doomlore Shrine in GW1.
