can a precursor drop on a character at level 20 or only for level 80s, want to try a few characters while doing the train thing, but dont want to waste a chance of a precursor if they cant drop for non max level characters.

People have been playing for well over a year and never gotten a precusor drop. The odds are so tiny, I wouldn’t sorry about it at all.

No, a 20th level character in a low level zone can’t get a precusor drop.

Since precursor is lvl 80 and you get loot based on your level I
d say no. I don’t think I ever got lvl 80 loot when I am around lvl 20. Could be wrong but I think it would be logic.

Actually your loot isn’t 100% based on your level…it’s partly based on the zone you’re in as well.

When I took a lowbie character to higher level zones, a small percentage of the loot drops I got were at double my level.

So I was like level 24 and getting level 52 drops that I couldn’t use of course.

You can’t get rare drops until level 30 and no exotics until level 62. Precursors are exotics, so only after level 62 could you expect to get one as drop.

Sure, on a higher level character. Not on a 20th level character. A percentage of drops will be at level, if your level is high.

That’s why I said a low level character in a low level area has no chance for a high level drop.

unsure what you mean, i was responding to the above poster stating that exotics only drop for lvl 62+.

i have had a named exotic drop for a level 22, a level 27, a couple of 30-somethings and a 42. i have had more drop for level 50+ but i cant recall exactly as it doesnt seem as “epic” a drop for higher level toons.

OP, you’re going to be massively disappointed if you go actively hunting for a precursor. Best to just play the game and not expect it to drop for you.

I’m saying, and what I’ve been saying all along, is that the drop depends on TWO things, the level of your character and the level of the zone. Both apply, in random percentages.
In other words, if you’re level 80 in a level 20 zone, you will get some level 80 drops and some level 20 drops. In fact, at one point there were patch notes that said they increased the amount of at level drops you get when downleveled for 80th level characters in any zone about level 55.
So if you were a low level character, in a low level zone, you can only get low level drops. If you are a high level character in a low level zone, you will get some low level and some high level drops. If you are a low level character in a high level zone, you will get some low level and some high level drops.
Getting exotics in lower levels only happens with higher level characters.
The OP’s question was if you’re in your 20s can you get a precusor. The answer is no.

In fact, all the exotics from the champ bags are from a specific loot table of the named exotics that released in that up date – entropy, highborn, e.t.c.

So you won’t find precursors, older named exotics or even craftable ones.

I know 100% we can get named exotics from champ bags at lower levels. I got several while leveling my 2nd guardian doing the champ train. That said I have also heard that we can get precursors from champ bags. I have not had one drop for myself so I cannot say 100% this is accurate. Anywho going by those two assumptions I am going to go out on a limb and say there is in fact a chance albeit a very, very, verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyyyyyy slim one that yes you can get one at lower levels via champ bags.
