what happened to banning trolls?
Are you confusing trolls with negative feed back?
Are you confusing trolls with negative feed back?
I’m not. Constructive feedback I welcome, but trolls who just give destructive feedback I really can’t bear any longer.
I would really welcome options in the forum to make constructive feedback-givers much more visible to the community while banning those guys who obviously have no good intentions at all.
Why not just establish a private forum and only have to read the “right” people?
Hate to break it to you.. a dissenting opinion is not a “troll”
I agree- I am thinking specifically about a handful of people who just troll all threads.
They even come out and say all they are doing is trolling.
Why?
It really irks me when some new player comes on here and asks or says something positive and the trolls fall on him like a bunch of piranhas
Negative feedback is one thing- trolling is quite another
Yes, you’re definitely confusing “trolling” with saying the game sucks. Banning people for posting negative feedback on official forums would easily be death sentence to ANet’s reputation. Not to mention absurd.
Otherwise,y these forums have some of the strictest and effective mods I’ve ever seen. So much as being “impolite” often warrants your post being deleted entirely. Actually a very appropriate policy considering what we’re dealing with here.
Saying the game rocks/sucks is perfectly appropriate feedback. Maybe not very detailed, sure, but it’s still someone’s opinion.
Yeah I instantly came up with 3-4 users who have offered nothing of value in 6 months+ of posting. However it’s difficult to separate trolls from legitimate users and as such they can’t just hand out bans.
“You can’t have more than 10 HS decks because that would confuse people”
“30 fps is more cinematic”
Now now calling people trolls and asking them to be ban is just a bit too much and impolite.

Saying Ascended gear sucks or the living story is kitten can still be seen as negative feed back, limited as it might be
Saying everything is kitten bhwuha-ha- ha-ha bunch of suckers,y u still playing, is not
( the last is not a quote btw)
trolling
deliberately arguing with complete fallacies (GW2 devs don’t care; Devs are only out for money; Devs are lazy;…) on forums, comment threads, or message boards to get leets and other users kitten ed off by the troll’s “ignorance”
Now now calling people trolls and asking them to be ban is just a bit too much and impolite.
There is a post history on every user, it is pretty clear for quite a bunch of users that these have absolutely no intention on constructive feedback, but repeatedly state how lazy Anet’s developers are and how they don’t care. Respect? Nada!
There should be at least a system to infract those people and with continued infractions a ban has to follow.
People behave like jerks, because they can. When Martin Kerstein announced how they would deal with those people a year ago, I was quite happy. Now a year later, there is little left from this intention (seemingly).

The system is working quite well i can tell you to the point of overboard.
I actually like the moderation change.
Never been a troll or GW2 hater, actually I’m more of a supporter, yet I managed to get banned twice for ridiculous reasons – pretty much a regime back then.
After the change I never got infracted once.
If you think a post is trolling just report it, I’m pretty sure there is someone there to look at reports.
You are welcome to the test the system.
A troll isn’t someone who’s unhappy with stuff in the game. A troll is someone who doesn’t care about what happens in the game, and they’re just saying stuff specifically to get reactions out of people.
I believe we have both legitimate complainers on these forums and a very very few actual trolls…but count on it…those trolls are present.
And they should be banned. I’ve already seen one forum community fall victim to trolls. There’s just no reason for it.
I’ve just come to deal with it. This is my first b2p game, so it was a bit strange at first. I can’t understand why someone who quit playing a game would troll it’s forums :P Negative feedback is definitely needed, but it’s pretty obvious who is leaving constructive criticism, and who’s quit the game long ago and is just trying to get a reaction.
I would never suggest to ban someone though, I just think those individuals need to remember that it’s funnier to troll the game you’re actually playing.

You shoudn’t troll any game. This is just bad behaviour which needs to see consequences.

Funnier, not saying it’s funny :P Was my gentle way of telling them to go away if they’re done here.
Deleting posts… does this actually have any consequences for the person who wrote these posts? I’d rather see a message “xy’s post has been deleted for xy reason” than having a post disappear without any notice.
Why is there so little functionality in this forum? Why so much emphasis on simplicity? Reddit makes it possible to downvote trolls, in other forums you can vote on an answer, etc…. all of this quite needed in a community where trolling can really hurt the experience in the forums/the game (imho).
they cant even fix their forum search box….so…..
I think you may be taking the forums a little bit too seriously. No one that’s new to a game should really venture into the general section of a MMO’s forums. Took me about 3 months to even check anything on the forums here.
I have been here since the beginning and the forums were a whole different place back then.
Honestly I prefer it that way because back then people actually had discussions mostly- even if infractions did get handed out like candy.
These days the forums resemble the abyss and you venture here at your own risk.
I see absolutely no reason why some few trolls- and they know very well who they are, should make the experience of everyone else miserable.
Saying Ascended gear sucks or the living story is kitten can still be seen as negative feed back, limited as it might be
Saying everything is kitten bhwuha-ha- ha-ha bunch of suckers,y u still playing, is not
A succinct summary of what’s trolling and what’s not, actually.
and of course there are the trolls from the otherside of the spectrum, those that attack/put down anyone who makes a comment that is critical of anet or the game. Which is equally unhealthy, btw.
When Martin Kerstein announced how they would deal with those people a year ago, I was quite happy. Now a year later, there is little left from this intention (seemingly).
Well, quite a bit has changed with GW2 in the past year, with little left from the original intention. As Vayne has noted several times on these forums, ANet staff said lots of things back then, and have since changed their minds.
Adopting a ban-heavy stance on forum negativity would not earn ANet many PR points, and I imagine they know this.
Are you confusing trolls with negative feed back?
There are those who post negative feedback in a polite way, offering real suggestions and ways to solve certain situations. However there are those who offer absolutely nothing in any conversation they’ve ever gone into, just blind hatred without reasoning or arguments. Usually, when they are out of any kind of argument they resort to personal attacks.
Easiest solution: avoid them. Trolls are very happy when other people reply to them, it makes them feel special. They just want attention to fill their empty life and come on forums to bait and start meaningless conversations to have their fun. I don’t want any kind of serious moderation or bans, just an ignore feature and of course a downvoting feature would be enough. Given how long it takes them to fix the search function I wouldn’t be so sure they’ll ever implement something like this in the near future.
I
I see absolutely no reason why some few trolls- and they know very well who they are, should make the experience of everyone else miserable.
That’s the reason – right there. They ‘get off’ on other people’s discomfort.
The correct treatment is ’Don’t feed the Troll’. (This thread of course is a banquet.)
Lol trolling and negative feedback isn’t the same thing. Someone who could be for anet could just as easily troll someone trying to have a discussion about a negative aspect of the game yet troll their discussion by jumping in and calling them crybabies who should go play wow.

Yep and they get an exception from being infracted just because in Anet’s pov they are supporting them and it feeds Anet’s ego.
I’ve gotten plenty of infractions for semi defending content I enjoy :P Even got infracted for posting in a thread that was clearly a bait for “Posting in an obvious troll thread”. Of course this will probably also end up as an infraction.
How about those who jump on every single negative feedback every created, nitpick on the unimportant details and derail those threads?

Yep those should warrant a ban too imo +1.Its nothing constructive.
Counter arguments are pretty constructive, but I’m assuming both of those responses are meant for the “ban trolls”, which is fine. Lol.

better to have an amicably athmosphere than hate-comments towards each other all over the place. I can ignore postings that people like something or don’t like something, it only depends on how they are saying it and whether there are insults involved or not.
Comments like: “I hate story delivery in the game because there is little story in the game lately (Tequatl, Twilight Assault)” would be fine for me. There is clearly an argument why he feels that way. On the other hand: saying that devs are lazy and don’t care for the game is just disrespectful and should be punished.

What a coincidence! I was just talking about you.

And again, the easiest solution is to not feed the trolls

I’m not sure if ignoring trolls is the right way. Ignoring bullies doesn’t help the victims either. People should just stop looking away and calling it as it is imho.
There is actually no problem calling a dev lazy or incompetent because those are opinions. No one knows how hard they really work on content and usually people focus on certain aspects which have been left unfixed for months to back their frustration so you can understand from their point of view, their logic is correct. It’s when you use actual verbal abuse, like swearing at them directly which triggers alarms.
You can’t punch people over the internet…

Say, what ever happened to fen and mountain trolls? Did they get banned?

Without knowing their schedules, time tables or workloads, calling anyone lazy or incompetent isn’t logic. It’s just emotional venting and should be discouraged.
You can not like that something isn’t fixed and say you don’t like that it’s not fixed without becoming insulting and in some places, calling someone lazy or incompetent would be an insult.

Yep no problem.Just that sometimes people just a lil bit sensitive and emotional cause their lil hearts could not accept some hurt.
Look at the dungeon forum especially at the post from TheMaskedParadigm. They can pretty much post anything there, it won’t get deleted.
Currently playing Heart of Thorns.

A down-voting system leads to everyone getting down-voted for their opinions (which shouldn’t be punished). You like the Living Story? Down-vote. I like traditional expansions? Down-vote. You praised Soldier’s gear? Down-vote. I praised Berserker’s gear? Down-vote. I’d like to think this community would be above such pettiness. But the reality is this is the internet, such behavior has to be expected.

cause its an oblivion forum.
I kinda have to agree that the community would really benefit from anet closing some of accounts based on game inactivity.
something along the lines of: don’t play the game for a month and you lose access to the forums until you log in to the game again. I know it’s very easy to get around, but it would at least shut up the “I uninstalled 6 months ago but I’ll keep trolling the boards” crowd.

I don’t like your take on how people should interact with each other… it makes me feel that you are just a bully who wants to downplay his actions.

they’d just update the game, log in for 2 minutes, log out then post in the forum, not so smart option…. and some people leave the game because of the direction the game is going but still visit the forum to show that they might come back if anet gives what they like a little bit of attention.
