where is stronghold and how do i start it?
In order to play stronghold, you need to pre-purchased the expansion.
to get into it, simply go into heart of the mist (the cross sword on the top left of your screen). Once you’re inside, open the crossword again (this time it’s in the top middle part of your screen) click play ranked or unranked arena and you should be able to queue for a game.
if you exclusively wanted to play strong hold, somewhere on the right side on that same screen, you should uncheck combat, leave only stronghold checked before you queue. That is to ensure you will be able to get into a stronghold match.
alternatively, i believed you can queue up to a match anywhere in the world without having to go to heart of the mist.
“We’ll also be opening up our new Player vs. Player game mode, Stronghold, to all players who play in the queue for Unranked PvP over the course of the weekend.”

So queue up for an ‘Unranked’ PvP match and you should get Stronghold as the map choice.

I believe that is incorrect. Stronghold will be free to all players, regardless of whether they bought the expansion or not. What won’t be free to them is on one of the mist champions, as you will need to have the expansion unlocked to be able to complete the reward track associated with unlocking her (“You will need to own Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns™ to be able to access the reward track that unlocks Nika” from here).
Then again, this is simply what I can remember reading about, and I may well be wrong.

this game mode is available for ranked pvp also, just check the box in pvp tab.
Yeah, i think the part i said about need to have HoT to play was incorrect. I guess i got selective reading/memory at that part
