why we don't have summon build on Gw2?
Don’t Phantasmal Mesmers count?
Mesmers, Turret Engis, Spirit Rangers, Guardian Spirit Weapons, Minion Masters; all are summon builds. The AI does need to be worked on for Necros though, I agree. Still, we have builds in the game already.
they only have summon, skill not summon build,
summon build meaning most dps by summon,
turret engis – turret cant move
spirit ranger- spirit cant do damages, only for boost
guardian spirit cd time too long – never works well
mesmers – only illusion can do damage. clone can’t. ( no about condition F1~F4 skill build)
elementals with elementalist? long CD but powerfull, and in dire nee there’s still eleemtal powder for all… or pet whistles
and condition spamming clones can be fairly viable. specially with PU rabid
Been There, Done That & Will do it again…except maybe world completion.
if you guys played diablo 2 necro summon build, you will know what i am talking about. its like an army so powerful. even gw1 necro can do the same job as well
elementals ’s elementalist powerful. but only just skill never work as summon build
GW1 had minion masters; GW2 has pokemon trainers.
mesmers – only illusion can do damage. clone can’t. ( no about condition F1~F4 skill build)
If I’m not mistaken for condi your staff clone is actually your best bet as it stacks the condis well, where the phantasm is mainly power damage.
thats why i said ( not about condition stack build for mesmer)
check out this link.. this what necro in gw1, and this what i mean
for gw2’s necro we still can get all the minion to fight with you build. but as i said the minion AI its so stupid. (they just stand there most of time, not even fight) it wont work.
So you basically just want a class that plays itself for you?
Thief 80 | Elementalist 80 | Mesmer 80 | Necromancer 80 | Revenant TBA

We know what you’re talking about… We’re just telling you it exists already, it just isn’t meta because it isn’t good.

Exists NOT WORKING = NONE
Exists NOT WORKING = NONE
Not good =\= not working…
Rangers still have a summon build (not good, but entirely functional)
Engineers still have turrets (perfectly functioning)
Guard and necro: i know nothing about.

summon build its not about “plays itself for you” you still need player skill to make it work.
Yeah, nothing in GW2 like Ritualist.
ranger and Engineers its not those summon build i am talking about.
ranger summon its for boost the main character. dont doing any damage.
engineer mostly codition. damge cant even kill a single 80 monster.
i miss Ritualist and Dervish.. so cool
engineer mostly codition. damge cant even kill a single 80 monster.
Now I know you’re trolling.
Mesmer phantasm builds actually have the highest sustained dmg (compared to other mesmer builds, not in the game). PU falls into that category which is a very popular wvw build, and the meta for pve is based on sustained phantasm dmg as well.
I never understood why people want to play summon builds where the AI does like all the work. If you want to afk watch TV while the game plays itself, why play the game in the first place?

Eh, you may want to actually try them out before you say that.
MM Necros and Phantasm Mesmers very much deal their damage via their summons. So do turret Engineers, but it’s a bit complicated because the toolbelt skills when the turret is down are also a big part.
Wow. So many classes. Much lack of understanding.
“Memories are nice, but that’s all they are.”

lol cute pic hehe
It’s a philosophical decision – ArenaNet decided they wanted the player’s actual character to play a significant role in itself, rather than simply concentrating on maintaining and supporting a minion swarm.
That said, certain builds of necromancers, mesmers, and engineers do lean on summons for much of their effectiveness. Mesmers can never entirely disconnect from it, but due to the way phantasms behave they can’t afford to be as reliant on it as other professions can be. For an engineer that puts all of their attention into turrets or a necromancer that puts everything into minions, though, it quite definitely does end up being the summons that represent most of your contribution – just never quite to the point where the only thing the actual character is doing is maintaining the swarm.
- When the necrominions don’t spaz out, of course, but that’s an intermittent AI problem. When they work, they work as desired.

OP says why no summon builds.
Answer there are.
No that kind of summons build.
The OP wants a profession/build from another game in this game.
That’s not reasonable. That’s not going to happen either. Summon builds exist and people use them. That is all.
I wish necros could summon diff types of minions. The ones they have are quite boring.
Keep in mind that a summoning build in the magnitude of Guild Wars 1 or Diablo 2 would never work. It already strains the computer (and the servers) quite a bit with the largest zerg-events. Now imagine possibly adding 500 extra entities to that.

Haha.. that would probably melt some people’s PC’s.

Good ol’ Animist Relic Defence from DAoC? :P
Its funny reading this thread, essentially what’s being said is there are several summon builds for different classes but they are all useless/rubbish for playing GW2!
So that’s dozen’s of skills on different character classes, that 3 years later and countless balance patches are still no good in a lot of players eyes.
What have the balance team been doing in those 3 years?

GW1 necro >>> gw2 necro, not only minions but curses too. GW2 necro is a weak copy of it’s former glory in gw1.

GW2 isnt really balanced in a way that classes have a lot of builds with similiar performance.
Most classes have 1 or 2 builds that are very efficient and used by the majority of players with the rest being ignored because they arent quite as powerfull or simply more of a niche build.
The game is only balanced towards a maximum allowed performance.
As long as a build doesnt go over the limit (and thereby makes pve too easy/fast and pvp unbalanced) Arenanet doesnt care.
Nothing wrong with mesmer phantasm and shatter mechanics. Turret engineers are strong in sPvP. Rangers with all spirits can also be good, it’s just that ranger spirits are almost purely supportive, not damage dealers on the whole. Necromancer MMs are fairly powerful in the right circumstances as long as the necrominion AI doesn’t glitch.
And that last isn’t the fault of the balance team.
The temporary summons of thief, guardian and elementalist are also quite good, but obviously they’re something you’d use to augment a build, not something you’d base a build on.

first of all, gw2 do have summon skill on different class. different races but
non of class can have summon build. the most possible is necro and guardhowever necro’s minion got stupid AI and 2 years Anet still havent fix this issue.
for guard and ele even have new skill on spirit weapon and elementals. build summon build never work for this two class. CD time too long. : (as i know summon build its like necro in diablo 2 even necro in Gw1 its much better.
The current state of AI/summon builds is bad. They all are useless in wvw and spvp. You can have some degree of success with a turret engi or MM necro against bad players. Overall they are underpowered builds and lose to other builds if the enemy know what they are doing. In pve anything works because bosses are braindead easy.
Spirit weapons need a major buff and work like minions, staying alive until someone kills them and not expiring with time. MM could get something to help it be viable in team fights and have more mobility.

It’s only because people keep pointing to the summon skills in gw2 so the OP has to keep repeating himself.
so to clarify…
There are professions that can summon in GW2, but that does not make them actual summoner classes. The necromancer in D2, puts the necromancer in GW2 to shame, and it’s because the necromancer in GW2 is based on the warlock in WoW.
A true summoner class lets it’s minions do all the work, and the closest GW2 has to that is a ranger using a heavy pet build, that stacks boons on the pet.
…but I don’t think it can be done in GW2, because at this point, the bad pet AI is becoming the stuff of legends.
Playing the engineer “as intended” is simply not viable.
OP looking for a good class to bot with?

One reason for them to keep summon builds completely useless is because they keep trying to make conquest mode esport.
This is another example of how focusing this mmorpg into becoming esport is hurting the game experience for the general playerbase.
i think i remember someone on the WvW board talking about a party of 5 minion necromancers taking a tower. I kinda want to do this at some point just for laughs

Jewelcrafting to 500!
The basic spirit weapon mechanics are fine. Summon them for a temporary boost until they die or expire – the guardian is not supposed to be a minion master with a permanent entourage.
The AI might be questionable, but the basic concept is fine.
