No new content until we release the expac at some future date is a meaningless and dishonest statement. An example of a meaningful and honest statement is ‘we will not release new content until the expac is released in 6 months’. A dissapointing statement but at least an honest one.

But a ‘guarantee’ of no new content coupled with a completely hazy release date is distasteful.

I don’t know who you are but it sounds to me that you haven’t explored all game modes to their fullest if you are still lacking content to consume.
1. Are you rank 80 in PvP?
2. Do you hold any records for speed clearing dungeons?
3. Is your WvW rank over 1,000?
4. Have you maxed out all achievements?
5. Do you have all the legendaries?
6. Have you achieved 100% map completion on more than one character?
7. Have you taught new players how to play the game?
8. Have you met a group of people you enjoy playing with?

The open ended nature of the end game in Guild Wars 2 means you have to come up with personal goals to motivate yourself to continue playing the game.

First off, you don’t need to go hardcore to see what the game has to offer. A rank 10 in PvP has basically seen all that PvP has to offer, and rank 50 in WvW has probably been to all the borderlands and all of EB. Some of those points don’t even matter or will make the game even more boring.

There are two things I don’t agree with in GW2: the “open ended” nature of the “end game” when the game itself is a theme park MMO, and the fact that most of the things in GW2 feels heavily emphasized on short term play times (silverwastes is a 40min-ish style of PvE played in rounds basically, and even then, many people like to skip most of it.)

6 yeah on my 6th char atm when i can bother to motivate myselff
7 taught more players than i can remeber some lots and some ive just taken an hour or so to talk em through some basics its something i often enjoy doing for real noobs when i can spare the time
8 lots but sadly most of the players i have met drop outa the game sooner or later
and often mutual goals and play time are a factor

so yeah i suppose there are things still for me to do but what is left is the stuff i don’t wana do for the most part achievement wise and i find alot of the social side of this game is based on mutual goals and when that’s gone its just sporadic chat
for the most part in my spare time in just working on getting that next legendary and tbh im just making it for the hell of it for an alt i don’t even relay play simply for the sake of having a goal to motivate me to play the game

its not much to keep you interested in a game re running the same old content again and again for another legendary on the pile

I’ve actually been enjoying the break.

I’m a causal player in terms of time commitment, I normally only play a few hours a day at most and this has never been my only game. So this break has been a perfect opportunity for me to do personal story achievements and work on luminescent armor and my legendary, level up alts and progress their personal stories, do dungeons and all the other things I never had time for when the living story was running.

I think if there is ANYTHING Anet has planned for, it’s the release of this expansion. If you think just a little bit, you could possibly come to any number of reasonable explanations why you won’t get new content every 2 weeks up to the expansion.

its pretty much copy paste work to get sab running again and would have satisfied alot of players at this particular time with all the sab hype and riots not to mention the player drop off
of course some would still have droped out if they had no interest in replaying sab personaly ida loved the chance

While many people want SAB to return, it’s a lot more work than just copy and paste. Unless they released just the world 1 and 2. Which would upset more players than it would please, as they want world 3. Accusations of being lazy would abound, and no one would be hapy with a re-release of what they already did. Many people were upset about them relaunching Halloween and Wintersday.

So, again, they won’t put off development of the expansion to re-launch SAB. They’ve already said they would like to bring it back, but its low priority right now.

I am 99% certain that isn’t true. LOTS of players weren’t even around the last time SAB was open (it’s been a year and a half now), and I don’t recall ever seeing or hearing anyone say they would be unhappy with just W1 and W2. Sure W3 would be nice, but you see “at least just W1 and W2” loads in the discussions on the topic, and never anything like you suggest.

It is worth keeping in mind that there have been quite a bit of changes to the game since. Which basically means that they potentially would have to change a rather large part of the code, even to bring W1 and W2 back.

And lets not kid ourselves. Even if people are claiming that “W1 and W2 will be enough” we will see them rage if they don’t release any new stuff. Kitten, they will complain even if we got W3 and W4 as well.

So let me get this straight, you are playing a game that has no monthly subscription and yet you demand more content from a game that is on par with those of a subscription.

Seems like you just can’t please everybody. There is no sub fee with this game, you could easily take a break for a little while and come back when there is more to do.
Just look at games like WoW, where players have to pay money every month and end up getting no content for over a year.

Expansion is going to be paid so what exactly is the money from gem store sales going towards. I understand that they could have a lot going on, but they had more than a year to update SAB.

Ive said it before and ill say it again Anet has handled the whole HoT production/release badly mebey next expansion you will remember The 6P Principle (Proper Planing Prevents kitten Poor Performance) get it together Anet give us something to do

They really dropped the ball, instead of announcing HoT DURING Living story and then continuing to add new content while we waited, they announced HoT at the END of living story and expect to hold our attention with gem store sales and ESPORTS tournaments.

Because of this all I’ve been doing lately is dailies and then logging out to play something else like TESO.

I couldn’t care less about watching esports streams on Twitch, I’m here to play a game not watch other people play a game, but all the content is stale, I’ve done all of it enough times that it’s just lost its charm.

and it’s going to be this way for another 6 months.

It’s about pacing really.

Biweekly content for 3 months and then a 6 month gap or more is terrible pacing.

Instead you could have gone content every 6 weeks and never had a really long gap.

the old ls stuff with scarlet in it was pretty lame tho and i can understand a lot of that being seen as bad content but season 2 has been pretty well put together and a lot better quality than it was before when it was bi weekly i think i would have been happy to see them continue like that personaly

Scarlets content wasn’t that bad towards the end.

Season 2 had its ups and downs, but sometimes it just felt like a drag, and I think it would have been better to unlock it and just play it all at once. Playing it every month just seemed as if I was reading one chapter of a book each month. Doesn’t really do it for me. But I find the battles in Season 2, far more challenging and fun. Only Season 1 battles that gripped me was the battle for LA.

You do realize that art design teams for cosmetic items in any large-scale MMO are separate from playable content groups, correct? As to your second question, that money is going towards paying employees, development, and revenue/profits for the company as a whole. Code does not write itself simply because a game has a viable cash shop.
