More Halloween Goodies
It’s exactly same since you get your lvl of drops if you go with low lvl alt. Best I got was lvl 26 green from mid boss while on lvl 4 char. So no, you can’t go in and go all crazy with lvl 2 toons. And if you have 8 lvl 80 chars well GZ, your effort to level that many just got rewarded and I have nothing against it since there aren’t that many ppl with that many high lvl chars.
I am all for keeping drop rates at a % that wont upset TP, but getting more coins from drops while running across Queensdale with lvl 80 (same time span) is just to extreme.
There’s a running saying in my guild,
“There’s no farming in Guild Wars 2, because it is not allowed.”
Just another example of something that may have been a touch overpowered being nerfed into silliness.
Extremely true, im just barely managing to get over 1 gold (used to have 3 but spent it all on keys) and thought id just be able to get more gold by farming for items, with my 196% magic find, im barely able to get anything above a few whites and 2 blues maybe 1 green in about 3 hours… pissed off about the money i spent for magic find items, and not getting anything out of it.
i guess this is how people are feeling with the chests then.. but honestly dont cry to anet because you spent all of your saved up real bucks and didnt get anything out of it, that was your choice, yes the regular drops should be a tad better, but you spent your REAL money on virtual items, well not even items really, keys…
I spent around 1 hour in the Laby and got an exotic from killing a Champ, 2 yellows, 3-4 greens and plenty of blues.
I don’t think they nerfed it at all.

Than I have more sympathy for those complainers who spend real money… I truly do.
i wasnt complaining about the chests.. i was complaining about all item drops in the game, and how rare everything seems to be (even if its a crap item). i managed to get the crossroads from the skele champ chest in mad king realm without opening a single chests (i did open 3 later for curiosity). anet is trying too hard to keep the gold to an absolute minimum for the non extreme hardcore players.. if gold becomes less rares, gem prices are going to be much higher.. so anet really has not much to worry about.

I know what you were complaining about.
And than you went on to say others shouldn’t complain about their real money.
I read the post, I stand by my point.
Losing virtual money on magic find is far less than losing real money on a rotten deal you expected to be better.
What makes you think magic find was better than it is?
It’s a bloody GAMBLE!
You MIGHT get more drops, where was the guarantee on exactly how many?
No one forced you to get magic find gear, stop being entitled because you didn’t get the drops YOU wanted!
(you didn’t write like this, I just want to make the comparison clear)
See what I’m doing here…
Now repeat that with real money, and tell me what’s worse to lose.

My above post sounds harsher than I want it to be.
Can’t edit it, so just adding this here.
I just can’t really understand how you can first complain (a bit) about the whole magic find thing, and than go on about the chests as if that was a lesser loss.
Both are examples of the same, and I still think losing real money is a lot worse than losing game money. In both cases it’s about not really knowing what you were buying into.
In both cases people seem to get disapointed at their purchase.
That’s it. In trying to get my point across as clear as I could, I might have come out a bit strong

okay i completely understand you know yes losing real life money is a horrible feeling, but i partly believe that its both anet and the players that are to blame, if anet never implemented keys into being a major factor into getting these items + the fact that they cost real money, a lot less complaining would of happened and a lot more people would be happier (i for one as i don’t have money for these keys). but the guys who spent hundreds and got nothing were just asking for disappointment. ive never spent money on in game items so i would never know how it feels to waste money on nothing (well for games that is). what i was saying in my first post was just agreeing with most other people who find the general drops all over tyria a bit disappointing. and just to be clear, i love this game, im just hoping anet tweaks a few things for future events so that a lot of players will be less disappointed
The skins in the trading post arent that expensive. Farm some gold and buy them. If you cant afford the one you want, buy a couple cheap ones and sell em for a nice profit AFTER halloween.
As for those MF weps, just buy the recipe and farm/buy the halloween specific items now. Oh look, now you can makem them at your own pace.
As for the chests……who cares? Really? Its not gonna be there in 3 days so why all the fuss?

Remember that time you blew all that cash on those worthless chests? lol. Good times. What, you’re still sore about it? Dude, that was daaays ago, you should be thinking about saving up for some Christmas keys wink wink
I had a black lion key drop off a Harpy today! (during the harpy event near the AC dungeon)
If this is how future holiday events are going to be handled, Im going to quit playing Guild Wars 2. Im extremely let down by how this was handled.
The Black Lion Store just shows a picture telling people that they will get special Halloween items if they open chests. I really wanted to get the Halloween skins everyone was talking about in chat, so I used all the gems I had and even bought some which Im not happy about, to buy about 30 Black Lion Keys. In total with the ones I got from opening chests, I opened 40 Black Lion chests. I got ZERO Halloween items in return and only boosts and mystery tonics.
When they announced the Mad King chest crafting recipe I thought well at least they realized their mistake so at least now I can get something. I crafted all my tonics and boosts- everything I got from the Black Lion chests as well as all my boosts I was saving from quests and achievements to get about 17 Mad King chests in all.
What did I get in return? Candy corn and a couple chattering skulls.
All my gems and the money spent and its all gone with nothing to show for it.
Way to go Anet- encouraging gambling and making the holiday events about spending as much money as possible in the hopes of getting impossible items.
ExistenceByProxy : I totally agree! This even is only for the higher level, actual money spending individuals I have even posted a new thread on the forum stating so. I am sadly disappointed.
It seems like Anet’s eyes are glued to its Monthly tracker hanging in the office or there’s management that is so in love with themselves they refuse to see that how they are applying the bandages the wrong way. Their concept of BLTP netting them an income because its F2P is only going to increase the bots and exploits. Honest players are going to give up for a bit because it is very frustrating.
The drop rates are insane. Only botting shows productivity without being that lucky individual. Its a shame. All those 200+ gold items on the BLTP are just ruining it too. Its either by players who dont realize its ruining the economy, or by botters who know itll net some guys to buy from their site. There should be a selling cap, or somekind of monthly fee to remove most of the bots, ruin their profit and lower the gem cost on Anet. Sure I like to work for my reward, but working for nothing is insanity.

Gambling for holiday items just feels so sad.
I thought GW2 was the game that would do right where other MMOs went wrong. For the most part it truly has… but most MMOs I’ve played so far looked at holiday events as a way to keep the players interested, festive, and satisfied and provide them with good memories along with perhaps a few cash shop items, not to have a gambling event to almost blatantly make large profits through limited-time items with obscenely low obtain-rates.
If you’re going to make it a gambling system, at least make it 25%+ to get a high tier holiday non-consumable (non-tonic (not-inventory-eating-trash… lol)) item. Getting even one such item out of 10 chests would be infinitely better than zero. But I don’t even like gambling anyway, especially during a holiday event. Choose some other promotion for low-chance-high-profit gambling.
I don’t want to be jealous or sensitive about people getting special items from this. But I don’t think it’s a good idea to implement systems that would cause customers to have such negative reactions and feelings during a festive event when most people would much prefer to emerge from this with good experiences of the festivities and memorabilia that they obtained fairly for participating.
I won’t get mad or anything like that, but please, ArenaNet, don’t do this kind of thing for a holiday event.

Can we make the Mad King chest take in other tonics? I have a bunch of junk tonics in my inventory before Mystery Tonics were introduced. I would very much like to turn them into Mad King chests….
Well Anet is obviously looking at $$$$ so this event is really catered towards making them $$$$. Really sad case of if u dont spend gold u wont get anything good unless u hit the lottery.
Even the events are buggy eg. the doors for the maze is bugged out and it doesnt spawn or the timer on it is too short. In short, I didnt really enjoy this event at all cuz it really isnt fun and time spend could be doing other stuff.
I’m quoting from this because it’s the first post I’ve seen with these questions. I just started to see a massive blur of “kitten, kitten, kitten” vs “quit yer kitten” posts while trying to find A-Net responses, but this stood out.
1. Will you or will you not be buying black lion trading company or random number generation materials again?
Yes.2. Did you buy them in the past?
Yes.3. If you would not buy trading post material/gamble, would you support direct to buy weapon skins and what general price do you find acceptable from a business standpoint both as a customer and realizing that they must make money as a business?
If you mean buying the skins with gems; yes. I’d also purchase armor skins with gems, and I do wish we could skin our armors with Town Clothing skins. I miss my Wintersday and Mad King party dresses from GW14. Do you believe that future events will also be handled with random number generation to make profit based on limited time item acquisition?
Probably, I don’t see why not. The items that you can get are trade-able, so I really don’t see why people are complaining. If there’s one you want, just buy it from the Trading Post. It might be expensive, but it’s cosmetic. People keep complaining about a lack of end-game content, but the second they’re expected to work toward something, they flip out. ( QFT from the original quoted response)5. If you believe that the future events will be handled in the same manner, does this realization negatively effect your trust of Arena Net in regard to handling micro transactions for permanent content?
Not in the slightest. People forget that companies that make video games are BUSINESSES (organizations that run on profit through a product of some sort). For any other game of this caliber, you’d be paying a monthly fee. In GW2, anything purchasable through the cash shop is either cosmetic or has very little impact on gameplay. Not only that, you can buy gems with gold. I have no idea where the whining is coming from.
On the other hand, a static price for gems would probably work a bit better than the current system, since gem prices are currently through the roof. But it’s far from a big complaint of mine. (Also QFT)6. Did you obtain a skin or whatever it is you were looking to get from the black lion trading chests? From the Mad King Chests?
Yes. I was very lucky, and though I spent more than I wanted, and probably more than I should have, I did get 2 weapon skins (one from a BLC, and one from a MKC) that I was then able to sell via the TP for enough gold to kit out my LV 80 main. I still have 5 gold left, and considering that making 1 gold can be a struggle sometimes (I have a terrible game shopping addiction where I like to spoil my toons with nice skins and gear ;P), I am very pleased. Now that she’s kitted out, I can use her to farm and support all my alts XD. I look forward to the next event.
So kitten i have now over 500 boosts , because i opened about 500 Chests spent 27k gems on it. And i have 6 mystery Tonics because i needed the Space and thougt they are for nothing.
So how can I craft Mad Chests without Tonics? Please answere me this because im so angry right now.
Just make it so i can also use Black Lion Sickle/Pick/Axe instead of Tonics oder Salavge Kits because this is just wrong i did not spent so much gold for nothing.
I also have 221 Fine trans. Stone, what to do with so much of them? You should make the Mad Chest Recipe more freely so i can put together all Black LIon Chest things together. Any other Thing is wrong, because why should I not get Mad Chests only because i dont have Tonics but 500 salvage Kits and Picks/Axe/Sickle and Trans Stone. i dont need them i wantet Halloween Goodies and did only get 5 low skins and 1 Shield Skin for 500 black lion Chests O_O kitten that was low
(edited by Peitzi.2501)
Why would you throw out items you paid real money for, or a large amount of gold…
It also sounds like you got plenty of other paid items from the chests. Mystery tonics dont take as much room compared to boosts, would have taken 2 slots in your case.
And you got 6 skins… sure you didnt get THE skin, you got 6 skins.
Apathy Inc [Ai]
Because Draygo before they said you need to keep the items , Mystery Tonics were just garbage i dont need them for anything, on the other hand i need the Salvage Kits and the Pick/Sickle/Axe and the Booster but the Tonics, for what? To change in some useless creature? And i got 6 shoulderpad Skins WOW they are so much worth -.- for 500 or more, come on read it again 500 CHESTS you know how much that is worth`? And all i got was just some Skins who are 1g worth.
And then i read the first Post here , i got Hope that i can get some other Costumes but no you need the Tonic , yeah thats why im pissed.
I feel bad for you Peitzi, that’s a ton of chests and a lot of money’s worth.
25 chests and the 5+ extra chests from keys that came out of the chests and all the Mad King Chests I could get from them didn’t get me any skins, but when I hear about cases where people buy 50+ and get no skins, I don’t feel as sorry for myself. Still, it’s almost $30 worth of gems for what after all the Mad King Chest conversions amounted to a few boosts, 40-ish fine trasmutation stones, a couple black lion tools, and at least 50 one-time-use Halloween tonics that I don’t even want but feel bad about getting rid of since they ended up costing so much. Perhaps it roughly evens out with the amount that the fine transmutation stones and other things cost on the gem store, but if you’re looking for Halloween skins, you may be better off converting gems directly to gold and buying it off the TP.
The chances of getting any of the skins from chests are so low that it’s practically misleading. To anyone out there, I cannot stress enough how much you should NOT expect much of anything you want from these chests even with lots of magic find (which I doubt affects these chests anyway). Be warned, if anyone tells you a story about how they got a cool Halloween skin from a couple chests, do not be tempted easily into gambling a hefty amount for it, because they were about as lucky as anyone can get. If I’d known the chances of getting anything really good were what seems to be much less than one percent I probably wouldn’t have bothered getting as many keys as I did. I’ll make sure not participate in these gambling events without somehow finding out the odds first.

Overall, I think the Halloween event was fun, but these chests are leaving a bad taste in a lot of ppl’s mouths.
The chests are a bad idea as it preys on weak ppl, or ppl who were mislead by what kind of chance they actually had. They are there solely to generate income and this poor attempt at another slight chance to ‘hit it big’ is just lame.
Honestly , it is a simple matter of agreeing on not on how Anet handles it , i for one , do not , and i wont support said company , outside expansions , with my money.
That is all there is to it.
If you agree , go there and spend , if you dont , keep your money.
I just think the solution is WAY too simple to ignore.
For Wintersday Anet should simply guarantee that “a” Wintersday item is contained in every Black Lions Chest opened during the event. There can still be the full range of items from common (high drop rate) to exotic (low drop rate), but in the end everyone gets “something”.

This might work if they put in special chests – say a 33% chance of having a Wintersday “stocking” (chest) drop instead of a chest OR otherwise change it up from the usual.
