This also says midnight GMT, which reinforces the idea that Europeans wouldn’t be getting the update until some time into the 23rd.

The simple truth is it really doesn’t matter.

If you want to tell people they have created an arbitrary release time don’t ignore the one that was officially given. Afternoon is officially 1PM-6PM. That time has passed, meaning the update missed the given timeline.

This isn’t up for debate, I’m not even annoyed, I haven’t made a single post complaining. Only correcting your false information you have been using to attack people for over an hour. People are overreacting about the delay, but you’re also just as annoying, the only difference is they haven’t been here repeating the same garbage all night.

It is up for debate. They didn’t give you a time. You decided on a time. Got kitten when it didn’t happen. Afternoon isn’t a specific time. It is only 7:30 for them.

Afternoon is the period between noon and evening. The term lacks a precise definition because it was in use long before accurate time-pieces became widespread. Hence, words and phrases that refer to general periods in the day were more practical.

Considering it’s not live yet, yes, PDT evening. Maybe 4-6 more hours

I didn’t get his point either. I assume he didn’t play GW1 and then heard somebody make something up and went with it as fact.

Please take your time. Better to have a solid event launch than a failed one. Imagine, if you will, the volume of “hate post’s” if this didn’t go right. Those that didn’t get an update when they wanted it would be even more upset and direct even greater protest and anger at AN for botching the patch. The Instant gratification generation is just going to have to learn patience and develop some form of forward thinking to take into account the complexity of implementing an event patch.

I played Guild Wars for several years. Guild Wars 2 should first and foremost be a sequel to its predecessor. In the original Guild Wars when arenanet said an event would start they gave a very specific time. You could have made a countdown timer if you so chose. Guild Wars 2 on the other hand is showing to arenanets paying customers that their same attention to time is more than lacking. For instance, any typical Guild Wars event started at forgive me if I’m wrong but I think 6 a.m. Pacific Time so.. 8 a.m. or so in Texas where I live and I could count on that…EVERY time. I had planned on buying all of the gemstore halloween items, but now I don’t even know how many gems I will need and I wanted to be one of the first to be sporting one of these items. I have no clue when I will get to purchase them at all, unless you count before tomorrow. I believe “before tomorrow” is the most unsatisfactory timeframe I have ever heard of ever at all. Except perhaps “before I die.” So, arenanet I commend you on the quality of your game. I instead express immense displeasure with your communication and dedication to living up to the expectations of your dedicated gamers and we really deserve better than this next time.

I live in New York, But its been patched for West Coast times since day 1, so I don’t know why all of a sudden everybody is up in arms about it.

No matter what time zone they launch a patch in. They’re screwing over somebody somewhere. So its best if they do it in a time zone that is most convenient for them.

Even by US time standards this has reached an EPIC stretch of being released / patched on the 22nd. At this point the end date should be extended by 24 hours for everyone and the time line of the event’s days either shifted or explained according to the act list on the Halloween Page. Failure to do so shows disregard for customer satisfaction.

No, but if my boss said he expected given to him in the afternoon, I don’t think he would say giving to him at 8 pm at night was making the afternoon deadline.

Fact is, to say the 22nd at this point is deceiving. If it goes live in the next 20 minutes, for seven time zones it will be the 22nd, for 17 time zones it is the 23rd. Just saying.

Anet has been releasing their patches at late Pacific time since they launched, and using that day as the patch day. October 7ths patch? Came out That sunday, late night well after midnight eastern on October 7th.

To be mad that they’re sticking to the same patching pattern, is stupid.

As stated on the event page, the Halloween event will go live on October 22, Pacific Time.

As previously messaged earlier today, it will go live later this evening on October 22.

In the future, allow me to recommend NOT saying something will start on X date when in reality you mean “as late as humanly possible on X date”.

Just say it starts the next day. Then when it shows up at the absolute last second of the previous day, people are excited that it came early, instead of mad that they wated ALL DAY and then had to go do freaking bed before the update showed up.

They’re providing a service to us, and like all service providers some things get hic-ups along the way. The bus can’t always make it on time. It’s just too bad Anet can’t (unlike a certain bus driver in Cleveland) can’t get up out of their seats and upper-cut all the annoying ppl in line that keep repeating the same thing over and over. It’s not the end of the world,..Tyria will still be there. Now let’s all hold hands and wait it out.

And that’s all well and good. However, when something is supposed to come out on the 22nd it should have been patched in at 12:00pm PST on the 21st leading into the 22nd. Not the 22nd leading into the 23rd. They should have just said it was coming out on the 23rd. That’s all I’m saying.

Weird they never had all these issues with the Guildwars 1 events, i wonder what changed to make Anet have so many issues with their in game events and festivals etc..

All these issues? This is their first ever major update and first holiday event. What other issues are there?

Every map has high amount of Event issues (broken not working) etc
Enemies reset over and over
Underwater combat has the invincible issues bugs
Auction House works intermittently etc
Bad in game lag and combat freezing

Well it’s no fun working all day, anticipating the update… getting home. Waiting. Waiting. Waiting. Then I might not even see it on the east coast.

But these things almost ALWAYS happen with updates. To every game. It’s just how things go with such complicated software. So it’s not surprising.

Its a decieving stretch to go by so late in the day. Only an extreme small group of people benefit or get any use out of the late hours they patch. Thats the West Coast / Pacific time players and thast it..Thats not even HALF the US oF A much less a large portion of their player base. They should of never for such a short time event posted time line dates for Acts or a start day that would give only like what a smidge of their playerbase any time to enjoy it that first day. Hell by the time it goes live i’ll probably be in bed and i live on the East coast.

I’m going with the patch will be released just before ‘witching hour’ ya know to fit in with Halloween history So like 11:50pm Anet time muhahahahaa

I’m trying my best to see this from all views here.

Yes, the Halloween event starting late is an inconvenience. I don’t mind waiting until tomorrow. I came home from worked, psyched to start the event with my friends. The fact we didn’t get to play is a major bummer, but it’s one I’m willing to deal with.

However, I do find the lack of organization on A-net’s part a little disgruntling. When you give someone a time, it’s only polite to be punctual. And while I know that A-net obviously isn’t doing this on purpose, the whole thing is a bit… Sloppy.

And yes, the content update is free. But that is what we paid for when we bought an MMO promised to provide free updates. That is why I planned to buy at least 20 dollars in gems to support the team this event. As customers, providing feedback to the company helps them know what they can do to make a better product. And in the end, that’s what we all want. Constructive criticism is a GOOD thing, and I don’t think it’s completely unwarranted in this case.

So when it comes down to it, here’s what needs to be done in the future:

- Release this event when it’s ready, tomorrow if necessary. No sense crying over spilled milk.
- Learn from this event.
- Organize time and resources more efficiently so that next event is prepared and ready to launch BEFORE the day it’s expected to go live.

Less stress for all of us. You can’t tell me that everyone at Anet isn’t ripping out their hair right now trying to get the event live.

In the end Anet is taking the biscuit. I see no reason why they can’t at least give a cut off time. Now don’t get me wrong i’m not waiting for it per se, but it really is quite outrageous. They know for a fact everyone will be staying awake and planning to play it, yet just leave everyone in the dark all day and continue to give vague comments.

It should have been settled a few days ago. ’ The update will not come until very very late on the 22nd PST.’

Every game based out of the west coast uses PST as their times. It is UTC -7 as they specify on the event page. Do the math or get over it.

I can understand some people’s frustration over the patch release, but it really doesn’t matter, unless your computer blows up in the middle of night it will still be there the next day and guess what the event doesn’t end until the end of the month so all is not lost. However I’m an EU player and I don’t use twitter I always use the information on the website and the launcher and unfortunately neither of these provided “satisfactory details” of the release and I never got this “23rd for EU” E-mail and I know several others did not either, I’m not complaining as I will just go to bed and play after work tomorrow but the communication could’ve been better I.E Updating the website for everyone and the launcher to avoid some upset players taking their anger and (some) showing their immaturity on the forums.

Everyone needs to just relax.
