If you’re talking about the Ultimate edition, mine were instant. You’ll have better luck contacting support though as they’re the only ones that can make it happen

You can’t buy the Ultimate in game, then you’d be buying gems with gems. That’s been there from the beginning, so it’s unrelated to the frauds.

You can buy the Ultimate Edition ‘in-game’ using the link provided in the Gem Store. (It opens a separate window.) =)

If you don’t receive your gems after 72 hours (and you definitely purchased the Ultimate edition), I recommend you contact support to receive your gems.

If you don’t receive your gems after 72 hours (and you definitely purchased the Ultimate edition), I recommend you contact support to receive your gems.

I bought the Ultimate Edition last week, and it took close to 72 hours for my gems to show up. I got the other items instantly. Everyone I spoke with said they got their gems right away so I contacted support after 48 hours. They asked for more info and told me to contact them if I hadn’t received them after the 72-hour period. I don’t know if I got them because of my support ticket or because the 72 hours were up, but they did show up. So don’t worry.

You should not be surprised at the “draconic” methods being used for financial transactions involving real money. Just this morning I tried to deposit a rather largish check in the bank I’ve done business with for over 25 years and it seemed like I there to rob them instead of make a deposit. For my trouble, I got $100 available to spend, 25% of the check available after 2 business days, and the remaining 75% of the check might be available in 7 days. Oh yeah, their protracted delay in processing all the paperwork necessary caused my wife to be late for work.

It’s no surprise that Anet is wary of almost every transaction involving real money.

Errr this stinks I hate waiting I’ve been waiting for 48 hours now I guess I will have to wait another 12 or maybe even 22 hours to get them, because from what I read everyone is receiving it around when the period has completed 70 hours.

I wish ANet would communicate delays like this better. There are all sorts of things we have to click through to buy HoT — why can’t they say, “due to recent fraud, gems will be delivered within 72-96 hours after applying the HoT code” (or whatever makes sense)?

I realize ANet depends on third parties in each country to manage these sales and they can’t control everything. However, they can control whether customer expectations are properly set.

Due to the fraud risks that you mention, shouldn’t you be able to add some form of trial period for new accounts. Like, for example, if you play until level 15 then the account is non refundable and you get your gems. That way you can easily get it the same day but you still have the chance to refund the purchase if you are not satisfied.

I bought my ultimate edition 2 days ago, still waiting for the gems. I understand the circumstances though and will wait, I just thought there might be better ways to handle this than to let people wait that long. Especially, like someone else mentioned, if there is something on Black lion trading post that you want to buy, but is limited by time or factors.

ditto! I just spend $20 in gems two two days ago to purchase some gifts for someone. Then a day later bought HoT. If I miss limited gem item sales I will requested a refund. If there is an issue, I will contact me CC company.

They created this big item sale, adding things to it each day and stating that the items will be available until Aug 31. I deliberately waited, just see whether I wanted any of them, all the time thinking I could use the “discounted” gems from the HoT Ultimate purchase. Then the big announcement about HoT is the kicker to get people to pull the trigger on their purchases.

From a marketing perspective, they did everything right — building excitement and getting people to make a purchase. Then the the honest customers like myself who acted in good faith get shafted and told that they cannot have the very thing that triggered their purchase in the first place.

Good job Anet. Way to go.

If I file a claim with paypal, Anet will ban my account. So really, they can give me zero warning that I won’t get my gems right away until AFTER they have my money, and there is nothing I can do about it except be angry and tell all of my friends to not even try this game out.

Exactly! Either way it is a win-win for Anet and we the user are screwed with either option. No gems = no items. Contact paypal = no gems, no items, and ban.

I heard back from Support yesterday. They told me that they could in fact refund my HoT Ultimate purchase if I did not receive my gems by the end of the sale. They did not answer my question as to whether or not they could offer me the sale items past the sale end time. Seems like a refund is the best one can hope for. There is still a little bit of time for the gems to arrive, so I will wait and make a decision.

“We can look into refunding your Guild Wars 2 HoT Ultimate Edition purchase. Please note that the code that you are requesting a refund for will be permanently disabled. If you registered the code, all features, including game access, will be removed. If you haven’t used the code, the code cannot be registered.”

Since the “code” is automatically registered when you purchase it, your account access gets removed – aka banned.
