So I’m a Veteran payer, having played the GW2 Beta Events (Not HoT as of yet) and today I bought the Ultimate Edition of Heart of Thorns through the game, via the Gem Store.
So upon logging to my character screen I notice I have 5 extra slots, 4 of which are marked Beta, which I figure will likely be deleted after the game launches on October 23rd, 2015 as they are only for testing purposes.

Veteran players who registered their game before January 2013 (which I have) will receive a free character slot. The Ultimate Edition has an extra character slot, but you pay extra for that slot, vs the other editions.

So my question is. Since I’m a Veteran player (guaranteed a “free” slot) and I also purchased the Ultimate Edition of Heart of Thorns, shouldn’t I therefore have 2 extra permanent slots instead of just 1?

A second question concerning Revenant character creation. While I understand Revenant aren’t playable until the game releases, could I not just at least go ahead and choose the race, gender and name for my Revenant prior to October 23, 2015? I tried to do so and received a mouse over message on the Revenant icon that I need to upgrade to HoT (I have already received an e-mail confirmation from Arena Net of my purchase, complete with serial code) in order to proceed. I have also received the various account bound items, but no gems yet (it hasn’t been 72 hours yet).
So why can I not unlock and make a Revenant placeholder even though I have upgraded already?

1) The veteran slot is added on a weekly basis (every Friday) and some players have reported it took up to 10 days for their veteran slot to appear.

So if it doesn’t appear after 10 days, I would submit a ticket on the matter.

2) I don’t think you will be able to customize your Revenant character until the release of Heart of Thorns – I think one reason is to stop players from choosing a character name and locking it off from others to choose (I am sure there are may other reason, but my mind is blacking out right now).

In some way, I think you could create a placeholder by creating the Revenant using one of your beta slots, and then simply re-creating the Revenant on the release of Heart of Thorns. That way you have an idea of what you want to create, though of course the beta slots will be removed upon release.

I was reading another thread and came across that comment about the Veteran free character slot being released later on.

As to the creating of a Revenant placeholder, I suspect I will have to wait for an actual Beta Weekend to do so as I still get the message “Upgrade to Heart of Thorns to unlock the Revenant profession” or simply that somehow the upgrade is linked to the receipt of the gems I also get with my purchase. Seems odd. I even checked my account via the link on the upper right side of this page and it shows I have the HoT upgrade already, so why do I get the message to upgrade when I already have done so and it’s been confirmed via e-mail and the information on my account page?

Perhaps after upgrade a new message could be placed that says, “Revenant Profession only unlockable during Beta Weekends and after game release.”
I mention this topic because several of my friends and people in Map chat have stated they already have their placeholder Revenant characters. Part of pre-purchasing would be the chance to actually reserve a particular name as I did with the original release of GW2. Doesn’t seem like a big deal and of course others have already been able to do so.

So is this some sort of bug?

I just checked and it states the same thing when I hover over the Revenant icon (and I have Heart of Thorns as well), so I figure it is just poor wording on Anet’s part that should be fixed (though I doubt they will adjust it).

With that said, the next beta weekend event is starting on September 4th, so you should be able to create your Revenant placeholder quite soon.
