I hope ArenaNet are standing their ground. I have no clue what people are doing to not be able to unlock things, are they just staring at the screen? Not even touching the keyboard and grunt every now and then when a silver platter doesn’t appear before them?

I play sloppily slow. I’ve been farting about and just explored things, looking at things close and died so many time for trying certain things. Unlocking anything is not even a problem.

I just hope that I will be able to experience THIS, as it should be, before ArenaNet nerfs it, IF they nerf it.

Spitit shards to HP.

That way those people who don’t want to farm masteries right away can use spirit shards for elite specizalation, play how they want to unlocking the masteries, then on ults do the HP if they desire.

Never finish it? Mastery is account wide, if you can blow it through in a week then what is the point of having this system. People wanted progression and here is one. Were people complaining new gears require you to play the actual game to get?

still pretend to keep it no-grind no-treadmill game in appearance, while creating mastery-level gates…and all the other raid/craft/pvp+pve stuff we already know.

Reasonable choice, but not enough to make everyone happy, especially gw2vanilla original population

If no hero points are required or too little are required then the hero points system will be non content that meant nothing. Some of the points are hard to get because of mastery, but mastery is account wide so you don’t have to level it up twice.

Problem is they way Anet sold it. They treat the specializations like a new class. And with any new xpac you generally can start the new class at lvl 1. So the general expectation of some people was that they would get to play their specialization at a weaker level to start and build it up as they played it. But instead they have to grind/play the same class they have been playing for 1000s of hours before they even touch the new specialization. It’s anti-rewarding.

I can honestly say that if I bought HoT I would have been REALLY excited to be able to whip out a bow on my guard on day one. Should Anet change it, maybe not, but they sure as kitten should have sold it differently, in my opinion.

Just because you are satisfied with doing the world completion crapola, does not mean many other players are. Lots of us want different ways to get the specs, and that is an issue that must be addressed. NOT everyone plays like you do, so stop assuming everything is fine just because it doesn’t negatively affect your experience, you are discounting a lot of legitimate concerns from a large number of players.

But then again when it comes to video games every gamer under the sun thinks they’re a design major and that they know better.

Actually no Metoidvania games are not beloved by all, especially not if they feature too much back tracking, such as requiring stuff from the end of the game to unlock functionality in the start of the game.

For example, having fat frog mastery requirement for hero challenges in the first zone, when said mastery requires traveling to the last zone to get.

When what it unlocks is functionality to play the game, and not a bit of customization, fluff or easter egg?

That is bad design, (and yup I actually have a degree in it so yeah.)

Elite specializations are not character progression. They are an alternate playstyle. The mastery system is character progression. Elites don’t give you and advantage over normal professions they just offer a different way to play. Masteries actually give you an advantage once you achieve them. Why have to grind out 400 hero points just for an alternate play style? I like the mastery system and think it is fine the way it is. Unlocking these “elites” for 400 hero points is just idioitic. These alternate traits and utilities should cost the same as the regular traits and utilities.

No, this never has been, is not, and never will be “supposed to be a grind-free game”. Arenanet have just gone on record as saying that they don’t like grind. That’s it. That’s all they said and all they meant.

One of the necessary ingredients for a genuinely grind-free MMO is a magic reality distortion field. The best you can do in the real world, where such things sadly do not exist, is to try and disguise the grind or make it a bit more palatable. Clearly, you do not think ANet have succeeded in this. Plenty of people agree with you, plenty of other people don’t. Time will tell whether or not there is actually a problem here, but blind outrage helps nobody.

This is not about entitlement or free-handouts. This is about holding a company responsible for lying to customers. People have every right to be mad at A-Net right now.

ANet were quite explicit in interviews as early as January that masteries exist primarily to gate content so that players don’t consume it too quickly. If you failed then to understand what was going on, that’s your problem (but ANet will still refund you your purchase if you want).

So, he has to provide evidence to back up his point of view, when you have no evidence to back up yours.

Sounds legit.
