Will HoT provide any extra character slots to our accounts, or are aNet hoping we’ll all buy these from the Gem Store?

I hope they do, since we will pay for the expansion they can throw a free char slot as a gift

they didn’t with EotN but then again, there was no need.
they already said they are never gonna add chapters ever again so i think 1 slot would be good, chapters even gave 2 slots and as i recall the nightfall pre-order pack gave 1 extra…..not sure tho….

Factions and NF gave 2 slots each, one per new profession. Hopefully HoT will do the same, even though Factions and NF weren’t expansions.

You will get 2 slots.

A new character slot bought via the gems store isn’t a big deal. ATM it’ about 105 gold here in EU. That even isn’t alot of gold and I don’t see where the problem is.
Go “out” and play the game for a couple of days and you’ll have enough money to buy the slot.

On the other hand- Indeed, it would be nice to have a free slot when we buy the expansion but, IMHO that’s unnecessary handholding just for the fact that you bought it with RL money.

Dear Anet team,
Please think about offering a free character slot to players upon purchasing the expasion pack. As a player/customer, I wouldn’t like to buy HoT only to be obligated to buy an extra character slot in order to try out the new profession.

Clearly you are from the future. When guild wars 2 was release it only had 5 slots but 8 classes, there is no reason to be certain we will get a new slot.

He was referring to Guild Wars: Factions and Nightfall. While they were standalone games you could link your account to it and it functioned like an expansion.

no one knows, but GW1 did give character slots, so it’s not impossible.

I assume they will, merely due to the new profession being provided, but I’ve learnt never to take anything for granted recently.

I’d hope we get 1 character slot for the 1 new expansion, maybe even 2 if they count specialisation as 1 aswell.

I’m hoping that the expansion comes with an additional character slot. I currently have one of every class… so I will HAVE to have one of these too for my GW2 character line up.

Maybe as a pre-order bonus….. =)

Hello! My question as you can figure from the title: Will the boxed expansion come with at least 1 free charater slot? (or at least gems/voucher to be able to purchase one)

As I found myself grinding money for a new character slot, a guildmate asked this question which never occurred to me before. He mentioned that all of Gw1 expansions came with one and maybe Gw2 might as well… Tried to dig up something from the recent announcements/news but I never heard this being mentioned, maybe it just slipped by me? I ask this because I would rather spend my time/money on crafting and making ascended stuff rather than a new char. slot for my revenant.

If not, would you like the devs to include this in the package?

I would really appreciate a new slot – having only 5 is silly – since I have only 1 slot left that I am constantly creating and deleting a different proffession for my pvp. New slot or riot

GW1 only had one expansion, Eye of the North, which didn’t add any slots.

The other three games were called campaigns and were standalone to eachother. You had the options to either make a new account (which gave you 4 slots) or adding the campaign to an excisting account (giving you 2 new slots).

HoT doesn’t really compare to how they did it in GW1.

But EotN didn’t add any new peofession, correct? It’s the case this time, so maybe they’ll do a commercial gesture by offering this new slot.

Correct. And obviously they could add a new slot.

I’m just saying that the GW1 campaigns and expansion doesn’t compare to HoT, so whatever they did back then is kinda.. irrelevant.

This question/suggestion has appeared in numerous threads over the past weeks. Rest assured, ANet knows people would like this to happen, and at some point they will tell us if it’s planned.

There is no immediate rush to open a slot for HoT. You could wait ‘til the day before launch to get one, since you can’t use it for a revenant until launch anyway.

The only annoying thing that could happen would be them putting character slots on sale and soon thereafter announcing there will be a free slot with HoT, so people who only bought the slot because they wanted one more to cover their HoT needs feel ripped off and inundate CS with refund requests for the slot. That would be on par with listing Rox’s Quiver for sale two weeks before the Wardrobe debuted, thus coaxing people (me) to buy two more of them … yes, I got a refund for that, but it was one of the few things that left me feeling sour about the game.

I’ve seen no evidence to suggest they’ll give everyone a free character slot. We’re more likely to see a sale on character slots around release time for HoT.

Probably not. ArenaNet does want people to pay them as much as possible.

This is a concern for me as well. If Heart of Thorns is a paid expansion, I will be expecting at least 1 character slot.

No you get it wrong.
It was Nightfall and Factions that wasn’t expansions but campaigns.
Eye of the North was the only boxed expansion they released.

Dunno if they count canceled Guild Wars Beyond as expansion.

You got it mixed up. EotN (leaving GW Beyond out of it) were the only expansion, hence why you need one of the standalone campaigns to play it. It wasn’t a new game in the sense Nightfall and Factions were because you actually needed at least one of the three games to play it. They even sold EotN bundled with Prophecies from day one.

There aren’t really any reasons to demand a free character slot. You’re paying for content, that’s what you get.

I want to make a Asura guardian but that takes up my last space which I want for my soon to be Charr Revenant.

I only have the 5 the game came with and don’t intend to buy more.

For me, at least one new character slot is absolutely necessary. If I don’t have one I might have to murder a poor innocent level 20 mule who just had her first birthday. She’s just a baby ANet. Please don’t make me do bad things to her. She has many years of muledome before her.

She might not be psychic, but shes good at interrogating ArenaNet staff. Im sure we’ll have an answer soon.

If the expansion is free, then no free slot.

If the expansion costs money, then free slot.

That’s how I imagine this playing out.

Well if they follow gw1 pattern where 2 new professions = 2 slots, this xpac will most probably give us 1 slot.

Unless the current trait unlock system is replaced, they can offer me all the free slots in the world and I’ll still not create a new character.

What I do think will happen is a 25% off character slot sale a week before HoT drops. That’s the same as free, right?
