HoT isn’t bad, gliding is fun and I really like the revenant gameplay as long as they don’t nerf it but I’ve pretty much seen it all now and nothing of the little amount of actual content is engaging enough to keep me playing, SW is still the most fun and rewarding map, dungeons even tho nerfed to death are more rewarding than any of the new maps and events, and I know that raids are coming but they’ll probably be bugged for the first few weeks and the crashes and dc’s are still a thing with the 64bit client still in beta so I can’t really say anything about that.

I’m not really feeling the 50 bucks worth of expansion here, ofc I really don’t have a choice if I want to continue playing with friends and guildies but it’s really biting at me.

Am I too sour?

Nope.

Though you would think I did with everything I dislike about it. I’m not happy about HoT, I think it went in the wrong direction. There are a few things I do like, but not enough to warrant the money I paid for it. I don’t like the direction Anet is going, and I don’t like the path GW2 is heading down.

But I don’t regret buying HoT still. I like to make my own personal opinions off of what the game offers myself, instead of going off of what people say on the forums or reviews. While I wasn’t happy with the direction Anet was taking this game before HoT, I had to see for myself if HoT was going to change things for the better.

No, even given how much I complain in Guild communication channels about how hard the maps can be.

New content I’ve barely touched (thanks to launching it on the same time as Halloween), a new class I haven’t even used, and a free character slot. Also, new items and skins.

Content, so far.

Nope. In 1-2 weeks, raids are coming. Next year, Season 3 Living Story starts. I’ve heard they will come in bigger chunks, so expect more content than Season 2 Living Story.

We’ll be getting more content more frequently, and all of it requires HoT. It’s safe to say, I would assume, to have more content incoming for the next 2 years before the expansion Pancreas of Crystals is announced.

Dont regret it, but it wasnt worth what i payed, and i wont be pre ordering the next one.

Basically: its up to anet, if they add in enough content in between this expansion and the next one to make up that extra 20$ i feel the expansion wasnt worth.

I think until raids are in and until fractal rewards are changed, and the new raid/commander UI is in, it’s still premature.

There are people who might think they’re not getting a lot but then they don’t really know what’s coming either.

Too early to tell for most people (aside from that, most people in the thread don’t seem to regret their purchase).

I didn’t prepurchase, but I still regret buying it afterwards. It was no where worth the money that you’re paying, as the amount of content is pretty pathetic in comparison to the core game that you paid the same price for. The whole thing feels like they were just milking veterans for all their worth before they finally leave. I’m a big fan of GW2, and of ArenaNet, but I have to say this whole thing has felt underhanded and passive aggressive from a company that spent three years boasting to us about how they love to give us free content “unlike other MMOs”.

The game needed and expansion. That was plain and simple. Living story design was flawed from the beginning and if it had been made permanent content then the game was not going to need an expansion, but unfortunately ArenaNet lacked the foresight for that and by the time it was all done, it was too late. That is why the game ended up needing an expansion and they should not have ruined the game’s entire motto in order to develop it. The sheer amount of gating and degredation of the core game to promote buying the expansion was not in GW2’s spirit. It is the exact opposite of everything both the game and developers have stood for.

My regret stems not from the expansion, which is excelently done, but from the amount charged for it, and all of the actions and incentives to get people to buy it. Had these incentives been done properly in a way that was not insulting to players, it would not be a big deal, but many of us were driven to buy the expansion simply because we had become locked out of content that we had worked hard for, such as fully established guilds built by small groups of players that took years to finish off only for ANet to just say “oops, that’s it for you, enjoy”.

I want to buy an expo because its good, not because I’m forced to in order to keep playing. Players of this game can no longer support it because they love it, they have to support it because its the only MMO that fits their preferred gameplay and without the expo there will be nothing new (or old!) for them to do.

Guild Wars 2 was worth the money. The amount of content that was delivered in it’s vanilla state was well worth the box value. With Heart of Thorns; “When it’s ready.” went out the window. It wasn’t worth the money I gave them. Maybe it will be eventually, but for the current existing content the answer is “no”.

Something to think about:

Guild Wars 2 release date: Aug, 2012
Heart of Thorns release date: Oct, 2015

Guild Wars Prophecies release date: Sept 2005
Guild Wars Factions release date: Apr 2006
Guild Wars Nightfall release date: Oct 2006
Guild Wars EOTN release date: Aug 2007

Each installment of Guild Wars 1 was a complete campaign with robust maps and relatively enjoyable stories. Enjoyed or not, each expansion was fulfilling and a modest $39.99 or so if memory serves. Some will argue that living story filled the gap for Guild Wars 2. I would argue that no one can go back and enjoy season 1 and those that missed any of season 2 must buy it for nearly the price of what a Guild Wars 1 expansion cost. Three years and this paltry amount of content with a full retail price tag is what Arena Net has to show.

I don’t regret it but still not satisfied yet. I love everything about the new map, the gliding system, even the mastery “grind” and the “gate”. But sadly here is not nearly as much new armor or weapons I feel there should be for an expansion. Not to mention all the available glider skins are only there to be purchased in the gem store. Basically I don’t like how all the new stuff still hides behind the same old gemstore when they can be put as a reward for various achievements instead.

Also, I still don’t like their stance in adding character slot only for prepurchase. It’s a basic necessity that shouldn’t be bought by player as an extra if they are introducing new class.

Dont regret HoT. Kind of regret taking the ultimate edition. (I now have a character slot unused…) and nothing in the gemstore I would consider buying (aside from a bank tab).

I’m disappointed in a few things though.
- Lack of new armours
- Laggy gameplay in HoT maps
- Short story

Other than that I’m enjoying it a lot. I like the new maps, the Meta Events taking place and the gliding is very nice and natural feeling.
I’m sort of betting on the future releases they plan, and hopefully adress the shortcomings.

If A-net had waited just 2 monts for release they could have release a much more finished product. Shame…

My answer is pretty clear. I don’t regret it at all.

Hmm…

A. Well yes it isn’t like many other MMO’s where new armors is a must becouse there is new armor levels… So yes it actualloy lacks alot of cosmetics. But look at point C.

B. I still havent had any laggy experience except for when I enter Tarir for the first time in the story instance. I don’t understand why some have lag and some dont (assuming they have good enough computers), try the new 64-bit Beta version of GW2?

C. I havent played through the whole story yet as I am taking it very easy. But remember that point A and C is something that will come with the LS too, you didn’t just pay for what you got with HoT, you paid to continue play the LS that will give us raids, more story, Outfits, armors and probably even more masteries and even Elite specializations. I doubt F2P and Core GW2 players will be able to do the LS from now.

No, I don’t regret it at all. It has some rough edges, not everyone can love every aspect of a game. For me most of the complaints are not really an issue. I’m not particularly thrilled about the mastery system but the levels will come anyway while you play the game. And they have always listened to feedback even if they can’t respond to every single thread. Plus, let’s face it. If they changed all the things players demanded all the time the game would probably go to hell.

As for the amount of content, I suspect the living story will pick up where the main story ended. So, you more or less bought that, too. In advance. Sort of.

Who says they have been hustled? Some people just realize that it was a bad choice, not blaming Anet for anything but that they just feel like this expansion didn’t give them what they hoped for.

Those who feel that they have been hustled by Anet havent just paid atention and want to blame their mistake on someone else then themselfes.

If infact they have been hustled and are so sure about it I would advice them to sue Anet as evidence should be all over the internet.

Don’t get me wrong, I think GW2 is a great value — the best value of any game I’ve ever bought — and I have every reason to believe Heart of Thorns will continue to be a solid value.

That doesn’t, however, mean I surrender my right to regret pre-purchasing Heart of Thorns down the road, should I be so inclined.

I have tremendous respect for ArenaNet, but that doesn’t mean they don’t make mistakes. They’ve made plenty, and some of them have been major whoppers, so I’ve learned to be skeptical.

But if I’m still onboard with HoT in six months, I’ll call it settled science.

I don’t regret the purchase but I’ve yet to see enough content to warrant the $50 price tag. In my opinion, it stands at $30. Nerfing dungeon rewards without compensating them otherwise, messing up fractal rewards and needing experience to unlock masteries when mastery points are an adequate gate are the 3 major issues I see. On the other hand, I love the new maps, digging specializations and questing for precursors is interesting, even for how simple it really is.

I regret prepurchasing it, I only did it for the last beta weekend to try out raids, and we all know how that turned out. My plan was to buy a boxed edition which was not only cooler since you get a shiny box, but also 10 euros cheaper here.

So I regret the prepurchase, but I would have bought the expansion anyway once it got out even though with a bitter taste since it is so small and overpriced.

A + C: That was my reason for prepurchase as well. I would continue to play GW2 and enjoy the tremendous value for money it has given me over the years. I’ve played games mere hours that had a value of €50 because it didn’t work out as expected. Waste of money. Movie tickets are relativly expensive compared to what you get in entertainment time.
So HoT is long term purchase for me, providing new content over time with a one time purchase. Yet I felt that the initial offering is a bit lackluster, is all.

B: Its been coming and going. HoT maps are definalty worse, but Tyria maps seem to work fine. Its not a FPS problem, as I scaled everything down to improve performance (running it on a 4 year on laptop). its simple input lag, that has actually seemed to have gotten worse over the last week (gliding with lag is hard…).

if you think the game is bad now, it’s because you weren’t one of the many mac users who got mislead by ANet thinking their game runs on mac.
3 years mac client is in beta. For 3 years i was unable to play the game properly. 3 years waiting for a client tweak
Now with the release of HoT the client doesn’t even start, and if you manage to make the client run, the HoT maps are so glitchy you can’t even play

If you try to reach out ANet for support, goodluck! Us mac users, mislead customers, are being ignored for years.

Hmm. Complicated answer for me. In our family, we have five accounts.

My older teen pre-purchased and has zero regrets. He’s loving it.

My other kiddo pre-purchased and really hasn’t played it. I regret letting him spend his money on it and have considered getting it refunded, but it’s his money and his choice.

My husband didn’t pre-purchase, but did buy it this week. He’s neutral so far, although he would have preferred to get a character slot for veterans so he wouldn’t have had to delete a character.

I haven’t bought it on my two accounts. I didn’t pre-purchase because I don’t pre-purchase games and wanted to see what was actually delivered for the money. I kind of regret it simply because I can’t play with my family in content now, but I’m pretty angry about the fact that there’s no character slot for vets if you didn’t pre-purchase, the hobbling of small guilds and putting abilities they had pre-HoT behind a paywall, the lack of solo & casual content and delays on raids & legendaries (not that I’ll do raids or get the legendaries, but I just don’t like that they delayed things they advertised as part of the xpac), bugs, and this feeling that the focus on the game is to manipulate things into gem store purchases. All in all, I’m glad I’ve passed on buying because I still feel like Anet did some shady and manipulative things with this xpac. It’s sad for me because I’d happily give them money if they’d handled things differently. I’m still in a wait & see mode, but did reactivate some old accounts on other MMO’s, so I don’t know. This was the casual-friendly game that I have played on and off for 3 years with my family, but I’m concerned that it’s no longer for me.

Yes! I hate jumping, I hate the lack soloability for at least some of the masteries, I hate that I have to go through much, if not most of the HoT content before getting the new trait lines. I played the first weekend and haven’t been back since.

As far as I can see, there is no longer any future in this game for me. I will be keeping my eye on this hoping that things will change, but I highly doubt that it will. For the foreseeable future, I am done with this game. If a year from now I still haven’t gotten back into the game, I will just delete my characters and delete the game. Just another game stolen by the elitests. Bitter much? Maybe a little.
