Do you regret pre-purchasing HoT?
I paid the $100 for the Ultimate and so did my husband. He even then went onto to buy another $100 of gems. Neither one of us regret it at all. It’s a game and we enjoy it and have been enjoying it.
I have no regrets – I think Scrapper is my favourite class now – but I think the rewards in the expansion are poor, which doesn’t motivate me to play as much. Dungeons are largely dead and Fractals give poor loot. HoT metas are good (besides TD’s as I can’t get along with that map at all), but it’s tricky finding dense enough populations on those maps to get them completed.
I wish they hadn’t abandoned dungeons. I’ve been playing MMOs for a long time – I can’t think of one that launched an expansion without a single new dungeon. Raids could be fun, but the ascended grind is grindier than ever and seems intended to gate access to them for as long as possible.
Partially.
- I was looking forward for raids.. and we still have none released, i know why and i’m ok with that, but still, hype of waiting is looooong :S
- PvE content is not what i enjoy, but they made it good, i must say it was really awesome compared to old Tyria, I want that they continue what they do with this rate, and one day I’ll maybe have enough content to enjoy PvE.
- Stronghold is sorry to say, worst game mode ever made, i was wondering where is more traditional GW1 death match maps, gvg content? Stronghold is just a PvE style of cluster fighting in chokes. So many obstruction, so many line of sight etc.
- I know you just wanted to state, GvG is in GuildHalls. PLEASE! DON’T! Those areas are 50% to small even in gilded arena. It’s a shame, this arenas can have at most 5v5 and far from 15v15.
- New borders awesome looking but, they destroyed WvW, they are 50% to big, two groups get bored before they even find each other, roaming is dead on borders, because u walk more then fight. Sorry we never wanted this.
But why did i purchase GW2 HoT?
To support ArenaNet because i’m with them since GW1 beginnings and i want them to do well. I can’t get all i want, and i cannot agree with every thing what they do, but i can say: They outdone themselves, now they just need to invest some time to speak with community publicly to polish what they do. Keep doing what you do guys, PvE is for once going in right direction
I do not. I feel like the game was worth what I spent on it, after removing the value of all the other things that came with the ultimate edition. I don’t know that I could say it’s worth $50, but it’s definitely worth $20-30.

Yes! I hate jumping, I hate the lack soloability for at least some of the masteries, I hate that I have to go through much, if not most of the HoT content before getting the new trait lines. I played the first weekend and haven’t been back since.
As far as I can see, there is no longer any future in this game for me. I will be keeping my eye on this hoping that things will change, but I highly doubt that it will. For the foreseeable future, I am done with this game. If a year from now I still haven’t gotten back into the game, I will just delete my characters and delete the game. Just another game stolen by the elitests. Bitter much? Maybe a little.
Before you delete them, can I have your stuff?
|Daredevil|Ranger|Guardian|Scrapper|Necromancer|Berserker|Dragonhunter|Mesmer|Elementalist
|Deadeye|Warrior|Herald|Daredevil|Reaper|Spellbreaker
Nope. Best purchase I’ve made all year.
I think until raids are in and until fractal rewards are changed, and the new raid/commander UI is in, it’s still premature.
What an absurd thing to say. “You can’t judge the item for which you’ve already paid full price because there is a promise that more is to come.”
Do you regret pre-purchasing HoT?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Spirited Was Eceni.3869
…..the hobbling of small guilds and putting abilities they had pre-HoT behind a paywall, the lack of solo & casual content and delays on raids & legendaries, bugs, and this feeling that the focus on the game is to manipulate things into gem store purchases…..
^This with the addition of locking story progression behind the requirement for massive xp. Oh and I hate mazes and jumping puzzles.
Compare HoT to EotN and see just how much it’s lacking in every measurable way.
Welcome to the Internet, exposing characters since the early 80’s.
No regrets. If I hadn’t, I’d probably be sitting here wondering if I should have.
Yes because HoT map like giant jump puzzle and hard to go around. I do not like jump puzzle now have big map jump puzzle.
I can not say much more why I do not like HoT because I only play in HoT map a few hour before frustrated and bored. Have not gone back to HoT map again.
On the flip side, I have absolutely no regrets that I decided not to prepurchase it. Before launch, I thought it looked like we were getting about $30 worth with HoT. Now that I’ve got a chance to read about it and see feedback, I’m valuing it at $20, or $25 max. I’ll be waiting until the price comes down to that, and then purchasing it.
~80% Yes and ~20% No.
No because GW2 is still the game i enjoy. And sadly there is right now no other game for me. GW2 has some mechanics i rly love, like the dyes or the skinsystem. And WvW, the gamemode i enjoy most.
I like the new PvE maps and the gliding. I’m not through the story yet, so i can’t tell if i like it or not.
But with this expansion some things changed and i really don’t like some of those changes.
- Wvw new mechanics and new map. I was never hit by that hypetrain. Since my first step in Eotm i realised, that asking Anet for “something new” for WvW is a BAD idea. And i wasn’t excited for the new map. But even if you never have been hyped for the new map, you can be disapointed. The new mechanics and the map is awfull and i think it will kill WvW (and if i have to admit some day, that WvW is rly DEAD i WILL regret my purchase 100%)
- Guildhalls: I have a small guild. Just me and some RL-friends. We are all not rich and we don’t have the luck to get precursors like greens.
We had the buffs for WvW running in our guild. The addon has taken them away and there is no chance for us to ever get them back. The +5 buff for the camps was essentiel for us. Also HoT is the only add on for a game that i EVER played, that takes away stuff from the coregame that players already achieved, to lock it behind grind and paywalls.
There is still a ton of things that they could have placed in the guildhalls without taking away the essentiel buffs we already had.
Yes, only because the price was dropped and most prepurchase bonuses were are now worth half of what they were. other than that, loving the expansion and dont mind the money i spent on it.

I have the same sentiment towards HoT. I simply wait for a price drop, without making a huge deal out of it.

Nothing for solo players there.
I’m loving it. We’re back to having more things to do than I can fit in. I haven’t done the meta events in several of the maps or seen all the nooks and crannies. I am still working up masteries (currently heading for speed mushrooms, as I invested in getting to stealth gliding and that took some time away from things Itzel-y). I only have two elites so far, heading for my third, but as I have quite a few 80’s that’ll be going for a while to come. I’m working up our guild’s hall, though linseed oil is a sticking point since it’s needed for pretty much everything in the game, including the bat shoulders I’m working on. 300 just for the shoulders … so the 50 for our workshop isn’t building up so fast Plus several of our guild that had been fairly inactive have resurfaced, I usually have friends around again.
And I haven’t even had a chance to RP any character reactions to it all yet!

It’s an MMO, tho. I’d expect some solo play for sure, but this shouldn’t be the norm, imho.
Wat r u, casul?
I still haven’t pre-ordered. I don’t pre-order on principle because it doesn’t benefit the consumer. Yes, HoT is STILL a pre-order.
I’ll buy it when I see what all the features that they didn’t bother to finish before tearing HoT out of the development womb end up looking like. Currently HoT is grossly unfinished and Anet has even admitted this is true… Happens so frequently now… rush unfinished product out the door, apologize and promise to fix everything later.
We’ll see what raids, the missing WvW features and other missing components look like when they arrive. I’m certain they will not justify the price tag being 5/6th of the original game that has far far more content but i will likely buy because it seems having the new skills will be necessary to stay relevent in WvW which i where i spend most of my time.
If not i’ll find another game to play. Not a big deal.
Not really. Bought for self and wife. Love all the new content. Expected nerfs and rebalancing. The story is engaging and interesting, and at some parts ridiculously hard. I’m a little bummed because the hardest stuff in the open maps was nerfed, and I reeeeaaally liked the challenge. It meant you had to coordinate with people, or get really skilled. I dislike the new WvW maps only in their size. Everything else about them is cool. Kinda wishing I had bought the cheaper deal during BW3- They were selling non-beta weekend HoT for 39.99. We weren’t sure if it would include an extra account slot, though, so we did the next tier up.
No I don’t regret purchasing HOT.
We got a new profession
which is incredibly fun to play in comparison to the other heavy armor classes
We got specializations
which admittedly are easy to unlock but they really have changed the way I play certain classes. Reaper certainly feels like it has made necro more of a complete class. Herald compliments revenant perfectly, Chronomancer has made mesmer actually viable.
The only classes that kind of got shafted are rangers and thieves,
Warriors, eles, and engineers were already incredibly good classes. they were not in dire need of these new specs as other classes.
Guardian has always been great in pve so it got more of a pvp spec to strengthen a spot it was weakest in.
Now the maps
The maps are great and I really like the verticality and the depth to each of them and the effort that went into the design. My only complaints about the maps are the fact there just wasn’t enough of them.
I would also have liked it if meta events actually gave rewards that weren’t simply champion bags, almost every event gives these and they hardly feel like they are even worth it anymore after 3 years of terrible loot, this really needs to be touched on.
The storyline
The story was actually amazing and I enjoyed it for what it was. It made me actually feel and care about what happened to the characters.
The only thing is the story felt very incomplete, the point where it ended is where it just started to pick up speed and build up. I strongly feel like the final fight should have only been about 50% into the story. Too much was left unanswered and I know this was on purpose but They should have given us some hint of what was to come in the future instead of leaving us without a clue.
Stronghold
Interesting pvp mode, haven’t really played it much but it adds a different element than just mindlessly kill and control points.
TLDR – No I don’t feel like it was a waste of money but the product does feel unfinished and I strongly feel that more content was needed to justify the 50$ price point.

No MMO is EVER finished. They all add over time. So saying the HoT is still a pre-order is just wrong. That’s like saying WoW is still pre-order and you won’t buy it till everything is released. It will never be finished until they shut the servers down. That is the nature of MMO’s.
Absolutely not!!

I both agree and disagree. Balance is never finished and always evolving, but when an expansion launches with many of the features that form the core of the experience missing, it is a grossly unfinished mess.
We’re not talking about small changes and additions, we’re talking about major features of the expansion, some of which Arenanet has freely admitted they weren’t able to finish before “launch”. I wonder why they chose the released date they did if they couldn’t finish the content by that date….
It’s like buying a car… yes you expect a certain amount of software updates to come out for it, but you sure as hell don’t expect it to come without wheels.
The majority who did regret pre-purchase will never admit it or post it.
Who likes to admit they got hustled in a public format?
Who says they have been hustled? Some people just realize that it was a bad choice, not blaming Anet for anything but that they just feel like this expansion didn’t give them what they hoped for.
Those who feel that they have been hustled by Anet havent just paid atention and want to blame their mistake on someone else then themselfes.
If infact they have been hustled and are so sure about it I would advice them to sue Anet as evidence should be all over the internet.
I had to log in just to answer to you
We players, got OWNED by Arena Net.They haven’t said content and items going to be late for weeks,Dungeons are going to be nerfed to the ground, every zone is one big jumping puzzle(which tons of people do NOT like)…And there’s billion of things people do not like, and things which no one knew they are going to add in HoT or to take away.
I personally like HoT,and playing Reaper, but that doesn’t give me right to say there’s nothing wrong with the game.I like game, and that’s my personal opinion, but i see more and more people every day, complaining about expansion, and i really really do feel sorry for them, they were expecting something ArenaNet promised, but they gave to their loyal supporters totally different thing.
If there’s 30 players,10 of them say game is ok,rest of them which is majority says game is not ok,who do you trust? You CANT say game is ok if you like it or your guild friends. You need to look bigger picture, which is state of game in 2-3 months. As far as i know, every MMO expansion is made to keep you playing until next expansion, which is not case when comes to GW2,people complain 10 days after HoT release…Where’s rest of the time, which should be 355 days(if we get new exp in year at all)
But,then again ’ fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice…I know i wont be buying no other expansion, nor any other game with Anet logo, and i am NOT only one.
Btw I had epic laugh about that sue,you are clearly in deep delusion, and know nothing about reality.

Pure speculation on my part, but I suspect fiscal pressures, development cycle planning and capitalization on the holiday shopping season were key factors.
Releasing unfinished expansions isn’t unprecedented. As a former LOTRO player, both Rise of Isenguard and Riders of Rohan spring immediately to mind.
Hopefully Heart of Thorns will fare better.

I don’t regret buying HoT. But I am kind of sad that the amount of new stuff is a petty amount. Plus most the old stuff like dungeons the rewards were nerfed to the point that its pointless to do them. (also fractals the new dungeons were just stretched with the same old boring content) .
When I say to myself that $50 is only a couple movies then yes for the time I’ve spent it was worth it. But It is sad that I am already getting to the point of thinking that’s it? maybe I should just drop the game after all..
I regret spending $50 on this crap when Fallout 4 is out in a couple of days.
Super causal PvE’r probably only played PvE for a couple hundred hours and found HoT challenging as solo which was great and slightly challenging but easily doable as a duo. The specializations are a step in the right direction and the content was great! Definitely don’t regret the pre-purchase.

What is good for me? I’m refuting a claim that there is nothing for a solo player when there clearly are things specifically for solo players. Let alone that you don’t need to be in a group to do group content, and much of the “group content” can still be soloed.

HoT isn’t bad, gliding is fun and I really like the revenant gameplay as long as they don’t nerf it but I’ve pretty much seen it all now and nothing of the little amount of actual content is engaging enough to keep me playing, SW is still the most fun and rewarding map, dungeons even tho nerfed to death are more rewarding than any of the new maps and events, and I know that raids are coming but they’ll probably be bugged for the first few weeks and the crashes and dc’s are still a thing with the 64bit client still in beta so I can’t really say anything about that.
I’m not really feeling the 50 bucks worth of expansion here, ofc I really don’t have a choice if I want to continue playing with friends and guildies but it’s really biting at me.
Am I too sour?
I dropped 100 bucks for the deluxe edition and I am glad I did. I am loving the chain events, difficulty, the players coming together, masteries, build diversity, and I’m super excited for the things to come: Raids, legendaries, Stronghold, etc. I am not liking some aspects of it: Itzel poison lore, but overall it has been super fun.
I don’t really have any qualms with spending $100 bucks on a game I really like, but I understand not a lot of people is as spendy as me.
If 50 bucks is dear to you then I suggest to wait till Christmas. They always have Christmas sales.

I got HoT for £20 less than a week after launch. love it tbh, even more so now we got the 64 client that and reshade works with it…

I like it but 45€ is too much. Look at china HoT prices, they are 10€, 20€ and 50€.
Do you regret pre-purchasing HoT?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: LanfearShadowflame.3189
Do I regret prepurchasing HoT? Nope. Even with all the fuss I have kicked up (and I’ve been kicking up a lot regarding some of the guild changes), I can’t say that I regret my purchase. Either of them.
I’m a little saddened by some things, little disappointed by others, but overall I’m not unhappy. At least not to the extent of regretting the purchase. Nothing’s perfect after all.
I am unhappy to admit that I do not enjoy the HoT areas. I absolutely hate jumping puzzles, hour-long story fights, and PvP. The living story was going along just fine, do-able but buggy. Then I got to the last part and found it horribly long, buggy, and requiring a party to successfully finish. I find the new terrain confusing and convoluted requiring repeating map events over and over to attain sufficient masteries to even access some areas; overall frustrating to navigate. I was super excited about the new precursor crafting, then found it costs much in ascended crafting items, and you must grind through hours and hours of PvP to get account bound currency. That was the deal breaker for me. I can follow the zerg and enjoy map chat in WvW, but PvP is vicious, repetitive, and time consuming. Most, if any chat is negative in nature, there. The old legendaries called for WvW but never for PvP, so why now? Not to mention the scavenger hunt part calling for fractal drops. I am disappointed in so many aspects of HoT and do not much enjoy playing it. All of my guild mates are spending most of their time in HoT areas and this makes it a choice of either buying HoT or giving up playing gw2. So I feel I was forced to buy it and hoping for better in the future. Legendaries was the main thing I enjoyed working toward, and I guess it will be back to tossing many, many rares and exotics in the mystic forge for me….
Most of it yes. Elites specs and the few cosmetics items added in the expansion is nice, the 4 maps on their own are not bad either and lot of cool boos fights.
When the game came out i was entering my exam week so didnt have much time to play at all however even with limited hours; i finished the story on 3 of my characters, participated in all meta events, did all the bosses fights i could find, explored the map to a descent point and did all the adventures along the way.
Yesterday finally managed to do the big boss in Dragon Stand and it was awesome… Until that feeling come up, “thats it?”
I didnt rush at all in the game, i really use the little time i had to move into the story and event tho it makes you skip a lot of stuff in the jungle, i covered said stuff in no time…
Elite specs are great, raids well see for that, maps are ok but the amount of content from HoT is very, very limited and doing all the same events over and over again got old very fast.
Overall it no where neer 50$ price tag, if we had a full continent like Cnatha or Elona to play like the original game it would have been generous for them but HoT would worth 20$ max, a DLC not an expansion.
No regrets at all. Sure, there are issues with HoT, but it’s the first time ANet required money from me in 3 years. I think it’s only fair to help them pay their bills now and then.
~Snip~
the lack of solo & casual content and delays on raids & legendaries (not that I’ll do raids or get the legendaries, but I just don’t like that they delayed things they advertised as part of the xpac), bugs, and this feeling that the focus on the game is to manipulate things into gem store purchases. All in all, I’m glad I’ve passed on buying because I still feel like Anet did some shady and manipulative things with this xpac.
~Snip~
None of the above statements are true, there is plenty of solo/casual content in the HoT maps, and your statements about them delaying Raids and Legendaries is also blatantly false. As a matter of fact they stated before the release date was announced that Raids would be released at a minimum of 2 weeks after HoT went live, in order to give people the chance to actually play the new content first. As for the legendaries, it’s a long process an anyone that expected to be able to get them right away was just dreaming…you have to remember that not only are you getting the content that was released on 10/23, but all future content as well(at least until the next Xpac), that will include the 3 – 6 new Raid wings per year(I’m going on the low to high side to be safe) as well as all Living Story 3(maybe even 4)…and other things(I believe there will be another Guild Hall as well). You’re not only paying for HoT itself(the Magus Falls maps), but also future content that leads into future expansions, so you need to look at the cost from that point of view(at least that is how you should be looking at it).
As for my own personal opinion: Absolutely not, and this is my reasoning behind paying for what I bought, not only am I going to get what is(was) released on 10/23, but also all content updates for the forseeeable future or until the next expansion comes out(should they do another one), that is what my purchase gets me, not just the content that was released on 10/23, but also all content being released after 10/23, for which I need to spend nothing more.
Most of it yes. Elites specs and the few cosmetics items added in the expansion is nice, the 4 maps on their own are not bad either and lot of cool boos fights.

I couldn’t disagree with you more. I’ve been having a blast. I have been playing it as well, on 4 different characters, but I have been thoroughly exploring, trying to get map completion, doing the story, other items. And so far I haven’t even left auric basin. I have had jam sessions with frogs, and thrown rotten fruit at other frogs, and just had a grand old time, listening to scritt conversations, and having a fun time fighting things, helping people, and exploring the territory. I think this was easily worth the $50, & I think this expansion set is really awesome.
I also think that this expansion does have quite a bit of content, but you have to realize it’s not all PvE content. We have guild halls, the legendary crafting system, the elite specs specialization system, world vs world, PvP, etcetera etcetera. There was a lot of systems that came in along with the interactive content that makes this a very dense expansion.
But as the saying goes, your mileage may vary. To each their own.
Regret… no.
Do I think I personally got my money’s worth. No not really. But that’s also due to the sort of player I am. I like wandering, messing about. Do a little bit here and a little bit there, and not have to commit a lot of time in one sitting uninterrupted to get things done. Well that last i would like to do but being the mom to a not yet year old child simply makes that impossible. That said I have adjusted my expectations of the amount of stuff the expansion would give me with my own limitations (not Anet’s fault afteral) but even then I fall quite a bit short on what I was expecting.
The new maps are a bit more unfriendly to one in my situation then I expected (and all 3/4? are meta event stuff mostly it feels like Silverwastes. And me only very rarely being able to participate and be online begin to end makes it a waste of time often. And the map difficulty is higher then expected, I personally would have liked a bit more layed back stuff in the expansion as well. This so I feel I could do a bit more solo and not feeling like i am battling uphill both ways for little reward. So yeah yes a bit like core Tyria. I expected a lot to NOT be like that. I didn’t quite count on close to nothing being like that. Doesn’t make it bad content, just unfortunately content that does not suit me well. So that makes the pricetag a bit more painful.
What is a great redeemer though is that I love the heck out of my reaper. And the adjustment to 250 HP’s instead of 400 made the full unlock within my reach. Just unlocked it all 30 minutes ago… whoot.
And hey having HoT means that if I log in for the new chapters of the LS I get those too atleast.

I didn’t prepurchase but bought it when released. I mainly pvp and it just wasn’t worth $68 Canadian for an expansion
I regret spending $50 on this crap when Fallout 4 is out in a couple of days.
Considering Bethesda’s history with launches I can’t imagine why anyone would pre order Fallout 4. Isn’t that like asking to be punished?
purchasing it no, pre-purchasing it, maybe.
I think once a bunch of people buy into it, they really have the freedom to do what they want, and make you put up with it. I think if you don’t trust that you and Anet are on the same page, then you need to wait until it comes out, before buying it.
If I think about it, it seems rather obvious, although I totally admit I got bit by it too. They dropped the title and I was already like, “shut up, and take my money!”
