Vigilant
Purifier
The name is lame, but the specialization looks interesting. Paragon seems more obvious, but maybe they are saving that for a future specialization. Perhaps vanquisher? Patron? There has to be a hundred better choices. Everyone’s character is a Dragon Hunter.
I think the name is okay but it doesn’t quite sound as epic as it could be. Most people also seem to forget that there are a lot more dragons in Tyria than the elder dragons, even in the Maguuma Jungle there are bone dragons in GW and we aren’t sure what they were when they were alive. Typically dragons outside of Cantha are referred to as drakes though.
As for it’s name perhaps Dragoon or Dragonslayer would have been cooler but I can see why they would go with Dragonhunter since it has a longbow. It does kind of remind me of the old english myths or something like Saint George and fits the guardian theme that way. Lorewise I’m glad they didn’t go with Paragon without a justification.
Seraphim / Seraph
Archangel
Crusader
Warden
Zealot
Dragoon? (duh)
I’ll take anything ANYTHING over fragonhunter
Warden
Warden
Warden is already taken by a race in Cantha, they probably wanted to avoid that association.
Valkyrie
Zealot
Paragon
all better than Dragonhunter, in order of preference.
Valkyrie in particular I like due to the changes to the virtues. You throw a SPEAR of light for F1, you get WINGS and fly into combat for F2, and you SHIELD your allies with F3. Spear, Shield, Wings, sounds like Valkyrie to me.

Druid has already been used in a similar way though.
Avenger :^) 15 Char
Avenger :^) 15 Char
Does that mean we can assemble?

And there will very likely be a lore correlation between the two, something unlikely to happen for wardens until we go to Cantha.
I like Seeker and Sentinel, but we have to admit the correct name is Guaranger.
BowBow, the most amusing specialization out there.

Suggesting a better name is not hard enough..
Try coming up with a name worse than Dragonhunter
“Dragonhunter” haha so bad.
Here is actually the interesting thing.
Even if there are some “names” have been taken. Like Wareden or Seraph (or in extenson seraphim), it would actually make more sense for characters to get these as a profession.
Why? Because they are prestablished in lore and might have special features or charactersitcs that would deem them worthy of a class.
Let`s go with the Seraph for example. If we had seen them using mostly bows and featuring the wing motive more drasticaly, then they would have been perfect.
While being traditionaly only being a human group, they could teach other races their way.
However going with this idea a Lion Guard specialization would be awesome for a class. Lion design for attacks, etc.

Is it sad that we feel the need to workshop this?
Yes.Let’s do it.
In the very least, I hope to see something represented in game that defines the Dragonhunter in lore. It’d be easier to accept. Seeing as the Dragonhunter is about ranged support, I could see Logan being pansy enough for it.
Hah no, not Logan. Most likely Braham will find Eir’s bow, or at least be inspired by her to take up archery himself. Thus, guardian with bow.
Oh my God……that has got to be a really bad excuse for a class, and yet its so right for Braham…kitten it. XD

Paragon, Keeper, Steward, Protector, Sentinel, Crusader…hell I’d even have settled for Monk as a spec name.
But please not “Dragonhunter”
Here are other names that suit the new Specialization with the new longbow and trap usage.
It comes across a lot like Warrior Monks, who use bow and arrows during the Crusades and Japanese War.
So either Templars, Crusaders, or Sohei.
All those are different names for Warrior Monks. Or just straight up call them Monks.
But Dragonhunter is still crap, Anet MUST HAVE knew this was not a good name, not sure why they choose it.
Avenger :^) 15 Char
I think this nails it. It fits if we’re following in Braham’s mother-avenging footsteps, it fits as a segue from defending the team to shooting the foe, it sounds powerful, hopefully it translates well to other languages as vengeance is a very old concept.
But as long as we’re brainstorming, well, lessee what else I can agree with or even add. Including things others have suggested, and some things that might well be lame but I’m just brainstorming:
Draconnier
Dragonbane
Arrow
Lightwarden
Sentinel
Lighttracker
Lighttrapper
Firebow
Lightbow
Lightarrow
…. Yeah, I’m liking Avenger best. Or Nemesis, Vindicator, Requiter, Castigator (gotta love a bit of thesaurus consultation).

My suggestions are Sentinel, Sentry, Warden and Watchman. My best choice is Warden. Keeps the idea they are going for without being too specific as to what they hunt.
Light Bearer
Shadow/Darkness Dispeller
Light Seeker
Shadow Hunter
Sentinel of Light

The association of that race doesn’t have to ruin the chance of a better name.

Grove police is called Wardens. How does it connect to Cantha, mister?
shiro ….
peopel search for proper profession names here, not stuff that sounds like rather “titles” rolleyes
sigh
I just thought of a way to use “Warden” without interfering with existing NPC designations in game:
Warder.
It doesn’t really refer to shooting things as such, and thus I still like the Avenger/Nemesis/Vindicator line of name ideas, but it’s very Guardian-y. Plus what we’ve seen in the video and in the TenTonHammer screens makes it look like the traps have a feeling of being magic wards.

Probably the best choice for the Spec name is Watchman. I vote for Watchman.
I think the biggest problem with many of the names suggested are that they are too defensive. The plot right now is about going to get Mordremoth where he lives and the spec is supposed to give guardians a more offensive option. Can we think of anything more aggressively named while honoring the rangery feel of the spec? I don’t think Dragonhunter is too bad but maybe Dragonslayer, Dragonbane, or Dragoon? Executioner, Scourge, or Wrath sound cool but might be a little too dark for a guardian. Banisher?

I figured it was more:
Brahm is friends with Rox. In a moment of desperate love, he learns to use her bow, before her gigantic anime eyes close forever.
And then, Rox descends into the Mists, where Rytlock-sempai finds her and lets her be with him for all eternity~
I’m liking Avenger and Vindicator. Really feeling it with those names, especially in a more offensive themed version of the gurdian.

Yeah, Avenger is growing on me too, especially after what just happened to the Pact, time for some serious avenging. Vindicator would work well for Sylvari but doesn’t really fit anyone else…

Zealot? Avenger?
The french version calls it the “Draconier”, which is kinda related to dragons, but it doesn’t actually have the word “dragon” in it. I like it much better
Also, why call it a Dragonhunter anyways? Chronomancer utilizes time as a mechanic, guardians specialize in defending and necromancers summon the dead. Does this mean that Dragonhunters will forever hunt dragons? It doesn’t explain their mechanics at all.
Hunter I can agree with, the dragon, no.
Blue Arrow
…
Anet has failed this city

Every profession is a dragonhunter and everyone wants revenge, so those names do not fit.
The name must be related to: guardian, light and bow. The closest I can think of is Arcangel … but of course … there are no angels in the lore of GW. We must also bear in mind that the word archangel is linked to certain current religion.

Their elite is called Dragon’s Maw so maybe it has some dragon flavor in there, I guess we’ll find out more tomorrow.
Mesmers get, Chronomancer
Rangers get, Druid
Elementalists get, Tempest
and… Guardians…get… “Dragonhunter”
All the first 3 make sense, sounds awesome, and has relevance to the profession, it’s unique to it, without something generic that can be applied to any other profession in the game.
Mechanics are okay, just have to wait and see, but the name has to go..

Had this on another thread, but I’m wondering if there’s an element of Glint in the Dragonhunter’s theme. But, to call it something like Dragon Knight would be skewed, since it could indicating following dragons.
Valkyrie would be my favourite choice. I also quite like Vindicator.
Honestly the way it looks makes it feel like a kind of angelic guardian. Which is why Valkyrie is my top pick. Another name of a similar theme could also work. But i honestly dont see how the spec relates to dragonhunter in any way, shape or form.
I have a hunch that they avoided names like Valkyrie because its a gear prefix. But i dont think thats a good reason personally.

I think Anet knew what they were doing when they called it a Dragonhunter and people will get used to it. I doubt they’d make it Glint themed though, that would intrude on Revenant territory.
Reposting from another thread:
Sentinel
Exemplar
Paladin (too common and carries preconceptions like DH)
Templar
Gallant (It is a support class afterall)
Arcarius (Old Latin – Why not?)
Bowman (A little too specific but still better than DH)
Illuminatus
The name is the most impressive thing about the specialisation so far. The powers certainly don’t LOOK like they live up to such a lofty title.
Bushwhacker.
Connotations of ambusher and plant pummeling both work.
The name has to go, indeed.
But my opinion is that the whole dragonish theme has to go.

They don’t actually have a choice on this point, on every page and every website, whether it’d be facebook, youtube, the forums, or even external websites like ten ton hammer, EVERYONE is complaining about it. If it is THIS unanimous, anet has to do something about it
Sentinel
Paragon
Valkerie
Artemis (credit to Atlas3025 on reddit)
Atlas
Quincy ( Bleach)
Marshal
Signaller http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Signaller (also from YugiOh 5D)
Point is we Need one name Classes, shoving 2 names together takes away the hype, and Thunder.

Maybe they can just change Valkyrie to the specialization name and make the gear prefix Dragonhunter? :P
Though, Valkyrie is too gender-loaded to really work.
Hahaha No they don’t. And most of the “helpful suggestions” people come up with are just as cliche as dragon hunter.
I’m not sure this will last, but I am pretty curious just to see where everyone sits in regards to the name “Dragonhunter”, wondering if it’s really as disliked as it seems or maybe if it’s just a vocal minority. Of course, it will likely be a little skewed still, but above all, I’m just curious as to how it will turn out, so love it or hate it, please vote!
People are going nuts over a name, really?
If you don’t like traps or the way the specialization goes, thats okay, some people really don’t like certain playstyles.
But they have a choice: Keep playing guardian and don’t change to Dragonhunter. Simple as that.
But getting salty over a name is just ridiculous.
Its not that you are playing the name, you are playing the character. Also,I don’t recall any ingame dialogue to call you by your profession/class.
The only time where you see your own class is on login, when creating a character or when you press H.

They should keep the name solely for the QQ.
Also your strawpoll is kinda worthless since less than 10% of the pop. ever visit the forums. So you are getting the extreme minority.
