Q:

Was it said anywhere that you’ll only be able to have one elite spec equipped at once or will I say be able to eventually go say, Reaper/Banshee/Death Magic on a necro?

As there will only be one elite specialization for now, we won’t know until Anet eventually unveil the second generation of elite specializations. And no, it hasn’t been stated anywhere as of yet (as far as I have read).

I would hazard a guess that it should be possible, but that is just speculation until we get to a later expansion some point in the future.

I don’t know why ArenaNet would have stated ‘for now’, if they weren’t, at least, thinking of characters being able to slot more than one in the future.

Still, plans can, and often do, change.

Good luck.

The bottom bar on your spec window is bordered in gold. This area I am assuming is the only area you can lock in elite specs. Don’t think you will be able to lock in multiple elite specs seeing how each changes the profession mechanic.

Well, from the blog about specializations:

Will There Be More?

When Heart of Thorns goes live, each profession will receive one elite specialization to supplement its five core specializations. We like to describe builds using the new system in two ways:

  1. I am a(n) {profession name} specializing in {Spec #1}, {Spec #2}, and {Spec #3}. i.e., I am a ranger specializing in Marksmanship, Wilderness Survival, and Beastmastery.
  2. I am a(n) {elite spec} specializing in {Spec #2}, and {Spec #3}. i.e., I am a druid specializing in Nature Magic and Skirmishing.

For now, characters will only be able to equip a single elite specialization. Doing so will be as easy as it currently is to swap trait points; simply exit combat and select your new elite specialization, or do it in Heart of the Mists for PvP. We made this system to build upon it, so let the speculation about future specializations begin before we’ve even revealed the first full set!

I vaguely recall an earlier interview that indicated there will only be one slot (the bottom one) that can take elite specs, but it sounds like you might be able to take more than one as they release more. Until then, it doesn’t really matter, does it?

If you hover over where u choose your specs for the bottom line, it’ll say something like specializations and elite specializations; whereas the first two just states specializations.

What Anet has said is that currently they’re thinking about only allowing you to take a single elite specialization. Which makes sense since the elite specialization also changes your profession icon and profession name so that having two elite specializations wouldn’t really work. However, the way they expressed themselves seems to indicate that they might decide to change their minds in the future.

At the moment, like others have already said, it appears that you can only have one elite spec active at a time, due to there only being one elite spec traitline.

I personally do not see this changing, because each elite spec either changes your professions base mechanic in some way or added something new to it. For example, the reaper changes your shroud abilities, if they added abother elite spec this too may change your shroud abilities and then you have a conflict.

Until we get more than one elite spec per profession, we will not know for sure unless Anet says something official. For now, I am going to assume only one elite spec will be active at a time.

Simplicity is complex.

Good feedback is key to getting the developers to listen to you.

Anet stated on one of the interview or blogposts, that you will only be able to equip one elite spec at time.

Sorry for not putting link, at work now. I’ll try to find out, but thats a thing I am completely sure of.

Another thing to remember, is that elite specs also change profession mechanics, so its another fact to be sure that you will not be able to wield 2 elite specs.
