Why are there only 3 regular holiday events per year?

Halloween
Wintersday
Lunar New Year

I’m pretty sure GW1 had more then 3 holiday events, though i never played GW1 but found this link: https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Special_event

I’d prefer events that happened every year like Halloween, Wintersday and Lunar New Year. SAB happens sometimes, but its at different months of the year. Once during April(April fools one year i believe) and another was at the end of the summer. And
what happened to “Queens Jubliee” – i’d like to see that be made into some kind of annual holiday event. (though it would be another evil humans holiday in DR)

It would be nice if there was some kind of holiday event for all 5 races.

Lion’s Arch has the Halloween event.
No fair humans have Wintersday and Lunar’s New Year in DR (Evil humans!)
I guess Asura have Super Adventure Box in Rata Sum.

That leaves Norns, Sylvari and Charr all need some kind of holiday inspired event in their capital cities!

My first thought was some kind of beer/ drinking related Norn celebration think “Oktoberfest” but can’t be in October already have Halloween.
Sylvari feel very much like a spring /summer event.
Charr my guess would be late summer/early fall?

I would look at Lore and what GW1 did and any Global holidays that could be mashed up into something for everyone!

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

They ‘removed’ Dragon Bash and the wind thingy. Pretty sure be cause they changed engine stuff and physics and now it’s ‘hard work’ to reintroduce it. Anet at its best

‘would have/would’ve been’ —> correct
‘would of been’ —> wrong

SAB occurs every April now, but it’ll no longer be further developed, at least not while they’re keeping Josh Foreman busy with new maps. Back in the day, SAB only came back like it did because W1 was unexpectedly popular, enough to warrant immediate further development. W2 however bombed in comparison, as people complained that it was too long and difficult. That’s why SAB disappeared.

They could have had another Dragon Bash for Mordremoth, though that festival was somewhat merged into the Lunar New Year. If they didn’t kill off the Zephyrites, the Bazaar would have been another festival.

SAB will be back every year so that’s 4 festivals per year. They need to add 2 more, during the first years we got the Queen’s Gauntlet, so that could come back to fill the August spot. Then we’ll be missing something in June and we are golden. One festival every 2 months is more than enough, and one new LS episode every 2 months, 6 festivals + 6 episodes per year and that’s a full schedule.

February: Lunar New Year
April: SAB
June: -
August: Queen’s Jubilee
October: Halloween
December: Wintersday

I just recently returned. That’s too bad, really like the one with the wind ships and the colored crystals and zipping around. Assuming that is the one you are talking about. Was it just a ‘flight’ thing? Could they just dismiss flying like they do in some jump puzzles for the zone?

I remember the name Dragon Bash, but for some reason I can’t picture what was involved with doing it? Was that the one with the balloons?

The “wind thingy.” Wasn’t that Bazaar of the Four Winds? I thought those were merchants that came by on their ships and left again. Didn’t they crash in Dry Top? Might be hard to have a bazaar if most of your people are dead or stranded.

Lunar new year was originally Bash The Dragon to celebrate the death of zhaitan. it was then sort of discontinued (dunno why).
SAB was never more than a thorn in my eye draining valuable time from devs to work on the main game. Instead of SAB we could’ve had racial festivals, but no.. people were so lazy to boot up a normal 8bit game they demanded anet continued an april fools joke which we all know anet doesn’t even have the time and resources for

In Dragon Bash we had the Dragonball arena which is still very much active during the Lunar New Year festival. Basically Dragon Bash was transformed into Lunar New Year

why does the lore have to have all of them dead? I think it woulda made more sense for a small group to leave their city and go West.

They aren’t all dead. You can go to Dry Top and speak to the survivors of the crash.

As to the other part, my understanding is they were a traveling group of merchants who had a circuit they followed. The bazaar was on their circuit as a stopping place to trade. Not their home city.

They are limited in number because, like with every game, they are short term content, costly to produce, and don’t bring much joy to players compared to always-avaiblable content.

…SAB was never more than a thorn in my eye draining valuable time from devs to work on the main game. …

Originally, SAB didn’t take away any dev time from the game. It was litterally a side-project one dev did on his own time. They implemented it in game because everyone thought it was cool and fun.

Later, when Anet updated the game, they claimed the update broke parts of SAB. Players requested it so much over two years that they did finally spend some dev time to fix it and give it an update. When it was relaunched, they said they’d make it permanent holiday content— and like other holidays, they wouldn’t be spending any more dev time on it. I’m not a big SAB fan, but I certainly don’t begrudge others who enjoy it.

As for the Bazaar of the Four Winds… I would love to see that return. Sure, the zephyrites are mostly dead or scattered over Dry Top, but they could regroup and rebuild. I don’t know what is holding Anet back on this one. Maybe they’d need to put in a little bit of exposition lore about the zephyrites’ recovery.

Since the zephyrites hosted the fundraising/rebuilding efforts for Lion’s Arch, maybe LA could return the favor?

Eh…you’re seeing them scale Wintersday to just one city and asking why there are only 3 holidays?

It’s kind of obvious. HoT was a bust and they are running out of money. Vanilla GW2 sold something like 4.5M copies and HoT has yet to crack 750K. Right? They’re transitioning to smaller, faster expansions with less content. That’s a sign that they can’t finance major development—i.e. they can’t survive without new sales revenue for the time it would take to produce another HoT sized expansion. Doubtful they have extra for non-revenue-generating development like Chaar-Kwanza.

I’m having fun with the content I have, but the expansion is not good—by the standards of the industry! Seriously.

GW2 had potential. It’s lasted 4 years**. It might last 4 more.

But it didn’t become what it set out to be (parts of it are irreparably broken or unbalanced), and I doubt there is an ActiVision out there, flush with cash and willing to input millions into Anet.

We play a low budget MMO, and it will stay a low budget MMO until Crowfall or something else comes along and kills it or it finally bleeds to death.

**Put into perspective; it’s lasted 4 times as long as Firefly, and Firefly was 1,000x better.

i don’t know did they wait too long before they decided to start working on another xpack and then rushed HoT out the door? You kinda get what you deserve then i guess. I would think you’d want to take time to perfect another expansion and not just push it out as fast as possible. They shoulda planned for another xpansion before the release of the base game, and if GW2 base went well, then jump into next xpac. build apon what you have. Reinvest the money into the company. grow it bigger. Make a better product then before. I don’t think it happened that way.

No, because expansion content came in the form of free Living World content. Sadly, the playerbase fervently asked for an expansion, and the Devs complied.

Personally, I wish the Devs could have carried on with the Season 1-type of content and delivery, but alas, it was not to be.

OT: There are 4 regular Festivals, though they all fall in one-half of the year. October through April.
