retailers tend to put up all sorts of placeholder release dates, so I wouldn’t count on it.

Any specific dates you see in stores before Anet offically announces it will be placeholders.

I do expect it to be sometime in mid October, though. Because Anet/NC will likely want to avoid direct competition with the surge of big name AAA games coming later in October and continuing into November.

And a DE Amazon listing if I recall correctly stated release 6/25/15. That didn’t happen clearly. I’m not expecting October. And I no longer spectate 8/26. I’d like to see a December release.

There is a TON of work left to do and they are visibly scrambling to get it done.

Put October out of your mind. ArenaNet is going to slump to the ground exhausted if they manage to get this beast launched for Black Friday in November.

Actually YOU have to work up excitement. I don’t feel obligated to be or not to be excited. I’m pretty sure the bulk of the population is excited for any new influx of content anyway at this point.

A lot hinges on the “difficult content” reveal. If it’s robust and hard, you won’t hear about how unexcited people are. But I’m pretty sure many players are excited, if nothing else because they think the gliding is cool. I’m excited about the mastery system, guild halls and exploring new zones, even if there are only 3 or 4 of them. I’m excited about continuing the story.

But do I need to feed myself to be constantly excited? Why would I have to do that?

They have said it will be released in 2015, quite recently as well. They didn’t just say that they aim to release it in 2015 but that they will actually release it in 2015. Of course things could always turn out in such a way that it will not release in 2015, but I doubt it.

Ah, must have missed that one; which is no surprise when they announce stuff through third parties. What’s wrong with your own site? (Somewhat off-topic but I’ve been getting quite annoyed with that for a while now.)

In that case I’d expect december, if it isn’t going to end up postponed into next year anyway, which does happen with video games.

The date will be practically revealed by the end of this month. Either they will announce it at PAX in 2 weeks or TwitchCon next month. Either way, expect at least a month delay between then and launch.

Considering the third year birthday, I’d expect to see it secretly revealed, then officially at PAX. However, considering ArenaNet’s policy, they shouldn’t reveal it until the last group of elite specializations are complete, which would mean a reveal at TwitchCon and a Novemember-December release.

I wouldn’t hold your breath for a 2015 release… My prediction remains January, but possibly not until march. Either way I feel very confident in saying that it will NOT be october.

GW2 became purchasable 4 months before it released.
I don’t see any reason why they would need a longer period, so it should be released at the latest in October yes.

Oh, have no doubt that’s when they wanted to release it too, when they first white-boarded a timeline for this project. They probably thought that could happen even as recently as when they made the first public announcements of HoT.

The signs that its running late vs. internal expectations are EVERYWHERE.

But now they have a publicly announced deadline. That’s half talking to us and half upper management putting the spurs to the designer/coders: Get. It. Done.

There is a finite amount of gamer money floating around at any moment and the pool basically refreshes on a monthly basis. They know that a lot of that money will be hotly contested in November and December which is why they launched a Pre-PURCHASE program long beforehand. So they don’t have to compete as much in the most competitive months. But they still need product on the shelves in that period.

It has nothing to do with it being patch day and everything to do with the fact that these days most games release in the US on a Tuesday not a Thursday.

I know that HoT is mostly going to be a digital release but I see no reason for them to stray from that general pattern.

Its funny how they cant even show pictures from the zones – they cant even tell how many new zones are being made let alone their names. They announced it more than a half year ago. I mean look at Legion, the new expansion for WoW, announced at Gamescom recently. I already know like 20x times more about it after watching an hour announcement presentation than about HoT after checking every update on guildwars2.com + announcement at pax. I dont even know how the elite spec is going to look like for my prof, lol, i didnt expect this in january.

Also this is a video game, they have announced (well, even less then announced even, more of a remark, on a third party site no less) the game will be released in 2015, this is no proof it actually will as video games sometimes have their release date pushed back.

That seems to be very unlikely at this point, but the FAQ is not so clear about it.

No plans, is not the same as no. Not sure why they can’t just be clear about it.

Nonetheless, I would also be happy with a pre-purchase deluxe edition or ultimate, but even that is not available. So if you want a hard copy and you want to get the pre-purchase bonus, the only option is the standard edition, and that literally is only an empty box ( with a code inside it).

That kinda sucks.

This waiting for “GW2: HoT” is little disappointing. It is so long and we dont know any release date. Maybe it will be 2015, maybe 2016? I’ll be honest will you all i waiting not only for “GW2: HoT” but for other games to. Like new “Star Wars: Battlefront”, “DBO”, etc. When the other games will be playable i think i play them. CoD and AC are pretty much rehashes of existing games. HoT is actual new content with new mechanics and stuff.

Umm… GW2 is GW2, CoD is CoD and AC is AC… 3 totally different games wich you should not (in my opinion) compare with. And also these games are more popular and has a bigger demand and a bigger company, for them bringing out new stuff ASAP is more important than having a game crafted by their playerbase. Probably for games like AC it’s probably not even the same team working on the games, the “big” names are there though. Look how many complaints AC gets for every new release, they are getting worse for each release if you listen to the reviews.

GW2:HoT at the moment has a base concept but now it seems that Anet are focusing on leting us players try out small parts of the expansion to handcraft it carefully after our demands and wishes so the game will be as near as perfect for us players as possible. They have no announced deadline so they don’t have to force the expansion on the market before it is finnished.

And don’t forget, CoD is.made by 2 different developers. Infinity ward and Treearc. So if fact there is 2 years between CoD games from the same developer.

But as others have said, they are very different games, and the last CoD game I played, took me 4 hours to complete the single player. Don’t think we are going to finish HoT in 4 hours.

I do hope you understand the ridiculous size of Activision and the shear number of people they have working on those projects compared to ArenaNet’s GuildWars2.

If GW2 had the number of people working on it as CoD we would be on GW4 right about now.

The first thing being funny is that you think just because a giant company releases 1 a year that they are made by the same team and only worked on for a year.
The second thing being funny is that both are singleplayer and in no way resemble development of an mmo, like balancing skills alone is probally more work then developping another cod clone.
And finally, the most hilarious thing, you just named 2 games who had multiple broken releases, some even making both single or multiplayer unplayable for a good ammount of time. Basicly the major release in history has to be the french revolution AC.

Any date close to the holidays will result in a complete disaster of a release. If they release it in early 2016 it will be a complete disaster too with all the bugs and exploits and god knows what else but at least they will be able to fix it without weeks of delays because all devs are at home.

They never ever said that. They said that new legendary weapons and legendary item would be coming and then they kitten it up because they changed twice the method. They wanted to make a scavenger hunt first, then swapped to crafting, then to the mastery/collection/crafting system that we will have with the expansion. But really, when they announced it, they said that it’s something they were working on at an early stage. That was a mistake and it’s one of the reason why Anet stopped giving much information about what they are doing before they are ready.

For the topic. I doubt that the expansion will be released after 2015. My guess is that release Warrior this week, after that it’s PAX Prime where they gonna revealed the challenging group content and maybe the expansion release. After that they will have 3 more elite to release, which put us on the week of 14 September. They could have the last Beta Weekend Event on september 19 or 26. Then a months later the expansion release around the end of october. IMO this is the earliest we could have the expansion. So anywhere between end of october and end of december.

Well… Call of Duty (COD) has three studios working on it (under the new rotation, used to be two studios), so each studio gets to spend three years of development time. During the first year, some of that development will be going to DLC, then they hand that torch off. The three studios are Infinity Ward, SledgeHammer, and Treyarch. That’s how Activision does a new COD every year. (That and its not like they are coming up with many new concepts.) According to IGN, Activision does it by putting 10 studios on the project at once. Guild Wars has 1 studio: Arenanet.

So… I think less than a year from announcement is pretty good, since larger studios have fallen short of that goal (343 and Halo 5, for example).

Anyway, OT. If they put all hands on deck, I think that they could get it released in time for the holidays, but whether or not they should is another matter. I don’t know if HOT is impressive enough to stand up to that kind of competition. (This year is shaping up to have a few big releases that, in my opinion, HOT can’t compete with; such as Fallout, a new COD that everyone always buys, Halo 5 for those who forgave 343, Gears of War, etc.)

That doesn’t even account for the side effects of rushed development, and we have no idea how much development is truly left in the expansion. They claim that they will be releasing in 2015, but I just don’t see it being the best option. (Of course, delaying to 2016 would be a big mistake given their track record.)

Teal Dear version: It might be possible for a 2015 release, but they are in a hard spot. 2015 = possibly rushing development and competing with big powerhouses and their new releases during the holiday season. 2016 = Disappointing fans and putting themselves in a situation where the wait has made it so the expac can never satisfy.
