Hammer Revenant - Anti-ranged?
Mesmer gs autoattack also has higher damage with longer range, it also can summon melee phantasm and can reflect much like the Revenant seems to do. Nothing gamebreaking. And you could say that ranged classes are anti-melee because they force melee players to either die trying to close the gap or go range.
Its a really odd design choice for the weapon if you ask me.
Its a ranged weapon in and of itself, and yet its going to force enemies (at least in PvP, PvE enemies will just stand there at range and ping off the shield) to come into melee, where the weapon itself isn’t ideal. And without a weapon swap, you can’t really use it to force enemies to close range and then swap to mace or something.
I basically only PvE anyway, so I guess it won’t effect me, but I’m not sure I understand the design choice there. Of course, we only know 2 of the attacks so far (well, 3 really, since the basic attack is probably the one that throws magic hammers) so maybe it’ll actually have something to take advantage of forcing enemies into melee. Maybe something strong enough to force them back out, which in turn leads to you forcing them back in in a sort of alternating position manipulation. I suppose that might be kind of neat.
You’re worrying about weapon skills on a class that can’t weapon swap so you have a small chance of encountering that. Even if you encounter it you still have those two skills that really don’t break the game.
-Coalescence of Ruin: From the way it was explained it shoots straight in one direction moving slowly but ramping up dmg. This also isn’t an auto-attack skill so either has energy cost or CD
-Field of the Mists: Blocks projectile attacks in front of the Revenant. Its also most probably a skill on CD or energy cost so not spammable. Moreover, you can skill use AoE and flank the Revenant.
Nothing to worry too much about.
Try ‘flanking’ when all he needs to do is turn in a circle and reflect all your projectiles until energy runs out, standing on the cap, and you’re two weapons were Lb and SB. You literally cannot attack him, so then the choice is run off somewhere else or stand there until his energy runs out.
Blanket anti- anything is never a good thing, and revenant seems to get both projectile and condition resistance.
No guesses for what we will see in the first couple of weeks- wvw full of them, and matches of 4 or 5 revenants.
Why do you make it seem like the skill is going to last forever, its a weapon skill that uses Energy (confirmed from an interview that weapon and utility skills will use energy)

What a surprise, after 2 and 1/2 years of pseudo-content.

^^This^^
The only upkeep skills that were previewed were the Embrace the Darkness and Vengeful Hammers. The reflecting wall was only a weapon skill of the hammer. At most, I can see it maybe lasting 3-5secs. Which is nothing horribly game breaking.

I didn’t notice that in what I watched or what I read. It is possible I simply missed it. Did they specifically, officially state that there is no weapon swap?

Yes they did. You also can see it on the Revenant ui bar. There is not swap weapon buttom.
