I want to pay you for content
Well, the expansion is on the way. That is content, and you have to pay for it. So feel free to purchase the expansion if you wish to support Anet and get content in return (if you haven’t already).
If you would actually read what I said, then you would realize that my intention was to incentivice an opposing monetization option for the gemstore.
But to answer your question, yes I’ve already bought HoT.
Dear ANet,
“Listen up player, you want new skins and stuff to do? We’ll create them, but that costs money. So here’s the deal: You pay us and if we have gathered enough money to cover the expenses, we’ll create a new event and put in the skin as reward.”
That’s basically what they’re doing but they cut out the middleman (the event in your example) and go straight to the reward. You pay → you get reward. The time and resources for not having to deal with creating such events get reallocated into building something on a bigger scale (expansion).
They clearly can’t do both, so you’d have to make a choice. What would you prefer?
You are saying they aren’t able to set up events because they are working on HoT?
That is pretty narrow minded. Also, the whole reason why I don’t like the gemstore is that you “just pay” to get the reward. I don’t want to pay to get it, I want to play to get it. I want to pay so that I can play more.
So instead of selling you items for gems, you’d rather they sell you quests for gems? Like the Living Story unlocks? And those quests would reward the items they sell?
Two issues with that:
- The cost of the quests would have to match the items in the store. And the length of the quests would have to be scaled in relation to Living Story.
- The quests would only reward the skin once. Or you couldn’t repeat the quests. One of these would have to be implemented, as otherwise you could farm the skins an infinite number of times, thus negatively impacting Transmutation Charges.

Yes, that’s exactly what I’m saying. They spend their resources into making an expansion and living story updates instead of a phletora of mini-events for every little gem shop item.
That’s not narrow minded. I’m not even sure why you’re using that word. That’s just how the development of GW2 content works. Also the gemshop of GW2 is not intended to be a kickstarter project where you give them money and they give you something back later.
Also you’re ignoring the fact that there are people out there who’re completely happy with the current implementation of the gem shop and don’t want to earn their rewards. They pay money and they deserve getting whatever they bought instantly. Your version of the gemshop would clash with those people.
No, I want them to take a Patreon approach. All players pay for goals and when those goals are reached, they will create an event with the item as reward. If that goal is never reached, then they can still release it in the gemstore.
No.

I get what the OP is saying, and I agree. I just don’t think it can change.
I honestly dont know how this could be changed/addressed/fixed/whatever, but look at this and tell me what you think.
I’m playing this game to do awesome quests to get awesome armor and weapons. As time goes on there are still quests but not so much armor and weapons. Theyre is in the gem store. I now really don’t see the point of doing all these awesome quests because some of the coolest things to work towards I have to shell out more money to get. I don’t achieve anything anymore. I just buy it.

They will soon have finished their work on HoT and they definitely wont start to develop a new expansion right after that. And I don’t care what the gemstore is intended to be.

This is the single most ridiculous thing I’ve heard for a while now. Who in the right mind plays a game to simply buy everything they want to have? Why are they playing in the first place? Those people are not the ones that should influence the development of a game in any way.

The gemstore is what it is. If you don’t like you don’t have to use it.

There are plenty of things in the game you can’t buy in the gem shop. People who want outfits or items instantly can buy them on the gem shop. People who want to work for items can do the pve-content. There is something for everyone

You mean farming the same stuff over and over again? Yeah, no thanks, I’ve done that the past 3 years. This game is no giant wardrobe. If you don’t want to play for the stuff you want then don’t play a game in the first place.

How many outfits/skins have been added to the store in the last 2 years? I honestly don’t know. Compare that to the amount that can be obtained by in game means?
No ppl don’t have to use the gemstone. Just hope they don’t expect to get many armor or weapons though.

No. that’s not what I meant. I simply meant that that the gem shop accomodates those people who’d rather pay to receive an outfit/item/reward instead of playing (which is completely fine) For those who don’t want to do that there is plenty of stuff they can earn by doing pve/pvp content.
The game is a giant wardrobe and I’m sure there are people out there who like it that way.
Maybe this game isn’t for you?
You don’t know that.

Seriously? With all new skins just getting released in the gemstore?
You don’t know that.

You don’t have to buy that stuff. What’s the problem? If you want to earn new armor or weapons by playing I suggest you wait until the expansion releases. There’s going to be new legendaries and armor/weapon sets you can earn.

“People who want to pay”, what are you even talking about? The only reason to pay for skins is to get them faster. Doing one event isn’t particulary time consuming and you don’t even need to pay for the skins to get them. You just can to get more skins into the game.
Also, each person with in the right mind would want to have a straight talk with you about wether or not this game is just a giant wardrobe.

The problem is what I said in the very first post. I want to earn the skins. And that includes the skins in the gemstore.

Yes, people who’d rather pay for an outfit and receive it instantly rather than giving money to arenanet so they can do a special event two weeks later in order to earn it. Have you already lost track of why you made this thread in the first place? Maybe you should go back to your original post and reread it.

I already addressed that in one of my previous posts. Creating events is time consuming. They rather spend that time and resources in creating something substantial like an expansion or living story updates opposed to something insubstantial like what you’re describing.
Also, each person with in the right mind would want to have a straight talk with you about wether or not this game is just a giant wardrobe.
This game is not all about a wardrobe but it does have a wardrobe (unlike certain other MMO’s) and it IS quite an extensive one on top of that. Since gathering skins is a very important element of horizontal progression, so is the wardrobe.
Yes, gathering those skins is important. Not buying them. I also fail to see why your shortsightedness led you to believe that those skins can’t be made aviable in the gemstore in the meantime.
