When HoT is coming, then older version of GW2 is no longer worth anything – maybe some symbolic amount of money, but nothing more.
Its fine that Anet dont force new people to pay for it, cause they’re not able to play this version of GW2 (as we played it) anymore. This is the past.
We was able to lvling our characters, discover all the world, play pvp (ranked, unranked, tournaments, esl etc), wvw seasons, and do all this cool stuff for all this time, while new players wasnt able to do it.
We used what we paid for. We received many hours of fun, and new players, which can buy HoT + GW2 cant back to these days. They’re going to start a new adventure, witch a brand new accounts, while we’ve got accounts with lvled characters, pvp skills, cool titles, minies, etc etc…
Think of it this way

How much did Anet paid you for this message? Explain why existing players are denied a chance to create a revenant without paying another $10 more. I am not even factoring the free game.
Its more about showing a shred of appreciation for me, Anet has customers that have been loyal from Day 1, sure we kitten and complain but we still log in despite our and ther faults. This feels shady to me, they don’t care about our time spent, our money spent, or our loyalty is what this boils down to. I think a character slot for people who own the core game is more than fair, and a good way of saying thank you for supporting us through thick and thin.
Without us core players (that own the core game AND GW1+xpacs) this xpac would not have been possible.
Then delete one of ur older characters and make a revenant if u dont want to pay for more slots. Its simple.
Btw, revenant looks boring. There’s alot of better classes.
In my opinion you are white knighting too much, regardless of any of the other glaring issues with the marketing, it is overpriced for what we are told to expect.
The content has already been described as feature-driven which woodenpotatoes quite rightly states is not something the average player will measure this expansion by. They will measure it by content.
With this whole fiasco killing the hype train and the odds that the content amount won’t match the price tag, HoT has a serious chance to fail as an expansion and the blame does really fall in Anet’s court due to;
- Shady marketing
– Overpriced
– Poor communication with players and pretty much straight up ignoring the complaints
– Grandfathering on the first expansion
– Killed their hype at the launch of pre-purchase
Only one in my guild has pre-purchased and they typically purchase large amounts of gems so the £80 ultimate is nothing to them, he sees it as a bargain version of the deluxe because he would have purchased those gems anyway.
Everyone else has literally boycotted at least prepurchasing pending a reply from Anet and more info. We don’t even have a release date yet we are asked to fork out £35…..
(edited by Pyriel.4370)
Hahaha I love this argument. “You’ve already played all the old content – why do you care what new players do?” It’s not as if the game had its many flaws and the loyal fans stuck by them through its entirety. Allowing them to create an expansion in the first place. It’s not as if we had to live on scraps playing the same content over and over again while their main concern was pushing out gemstore updates. And to show their appreciation Anet just says “Cool, thanks for the support, guys. We’re going to give you stuff that should’ve been in the game to begin with – along with a new class and a zone with like 5 maps after almost 3 years all for a bargain of $50!”

You’re missing the point, I have an open slot, it’s not about the slot, its about acknowledging your loyal customers and not putting new players before them, it’s about telling people that the core game was required and those that went out and bought the core game to find out it wasn’t needed, it’s about good PR.
As a business new blood is needed but shafting your loyal customers is just bad business.
it’s about telling people that the core game was required and those that went out and bought the core game to find out it wasn’t needed, it’s about good PR.
This here is my main problem with this whole thing. Players were misled on that.

Your name perfectly reflects that statement. How are you being denied creating a revenant? I don’t know about you but I received 5 free character slots when I bought my copy of the game.
I thought everyone knows that they are going to do something like 2 in 1
(GW2 + HoT).
IMO there is nothing surprising in this. I wrote about this few months ago.
Anyone who bought the game after the announcement of the HoT should already know that he/she overpaid. But it looks like they just wanted to play it sooner (before HoT comes out), so they bought it. Their will – their money. Nobody forced them.

It is the standard AFTER a couple months, typically you release the xpac, the core becomes discounted, so you buy the core at a discount + the xpac. A couple months later the two are combined, this is done to directly avoid issues like the one that is splattered all over these forums.
Getting really tired of people like you (on both sides of the argument) making new threads saying the exact same thing over and over. Why do you think you should have your own thread… Like you have something groundbreaking to say. All I hear is “everyone should value my opinion more” ugh.

Oh yes this is why, there is a:
– underleveling system
– daily events in low level zone.
– daily world bosses to get down in all zone.
Yes this part of the game will be so dead in like……every other MMO.
Except that GW2 is his own MMO in that categorie.

Very true, yet it is more distraction for the forum mods and Anet staff to sift through. It is essentially spam.

Yes, but to be fair. After such a fiasco I would think they are trying to come up with an “everybody wins” scenario. IF they are planning to change the deals in any way whatsoever, that likely requires being approved by higher-ups, which in turn takes time. There is always the possibility that they are completely ignoring it though…

I’m sorry, but this is the silliest thing I’ve read today on this issue. I have no problem having core GW2 for free for new players, that’s fine.
What people are angry at are mostly, from what I’ve read, you don’t get 2 keys. So if you wanted to gift the Core game, or roll some bank mules, you can’t, even though technically you are paying for the Core game again you do not get it if you own GW2.
Secondly is the lack of a character slot. In the past when ANet brought out a new GW game with new classes, if you already owned a campaign, you got 2 slots for the 2 new classes. This is annoying people as they have to.make a choice of deleting a character they have already made, or buy.a new one. This is not sitting well.with people, as the new class is one of the selling points.
The unknown amount of content. We just don’t know what we are paying for. With the Core game we had an idea, we where getting a continent, just like we did in GW. So at launch, we didn’t mind “blindly” paying out money. This time however, for all we know, we get meguma and that’s it. That small bit of map. For the same price that we payed for GW2 at launch. Can you new see why people are concerned and upset?
I personally will be waiting till I know what I’m paying for. Then decide if the price tag is worth it o. The edition I wish to get. The slot is a non issue for me as I deleted a toon awhile back as I didn’t like the class and just left it with a bank toon with a name I wanted to keep. So for me its a case of, do I want the shinny stuff with the middle edition, or just buy the basic as long as I feel the content is worth the price.

I’m not disagreeing with you, but the posts will continue until they address the issue, it is what it is.
So the complaint isnt about playing from the beginning, its about people who bought the game recently, where the core game is required… whoever thought it wasnt is an idiot, and then having to pay again for the expansion. Thats really the only argument anyone could bring forth.
People who have been playing since launch shouldnt say anything, you got your monies worth from the original game, if you dont think HoT is going to be worth it, dont pay for it.

this is totally unrelated:
Because the newcomer wasn’t there at that time; it’s the newcomers fault if they didn’t experience it; not mine. I can empathize with them but not be kept responsible for their choice.
Whereas in this case; As a veteran I’m being shafted while I’m there & the newcomer get a bonus.
Double standard between veteran & newcomer; a pretty clear message that Anet doesn’t care about his veteran/existing player.
This is like saying: “we are sorry you are not eligible for this gift as you have been supporting us until now”.
That’s a big slap is it ?

I’m not paying for it. I’m sure it’ll be $10 soon.
I kind of started the day outrage surfing, essentially laughing at all the kitten kids going crazy with their overwrought sense of entitlement.
Now though, now it’s just kind if dirty. Is this really how the world works now, where people riot over someone else getting a gift or over not being given enough gifts themselves?
I am only sad.

Uh… You realize they changed the FAQ from saying you originally needed to buy the core game first? Right?

Or. People are mad they are paying the same and getting less.
The wording on their FAQs sheet heavily indicated that the base game and HoT would be completely separate. No one had any reason to believe it would be otherwise.
where people riot over someone else getting a gift or over not being given enough gifts themselves?
As existing player we got a gift? Where it is ? ….Oh right there is none.
Unless I’m really bad when it comes to gift “enough” & “none” isn’t the same thing at all.

There are plenty of opinions why the outrage is justified, a few of them I can completely agree with. Giving new players the core game with 5 character slots gives them the advantage to create the new class without spending more money or ingame currency. The loyal customers have to buy a new slot or convert gold to gems to get the new slot. That is only 1 valid reason.
It’s not about giving a gift, if that is what you have came back with from all the complaints then you haven’t really read all that much.
no, really it’s not.
People are very good at self-justifying selfish motives, and this is a prime case.
“ITS NOT FAIR THAT NEW PLAYERS GET THE ORIGINAL GAME FOR FREE!”
“ITS NOT FAIR THAT I HAVE TO BUY A CHARACTER SLOT TO PLAY THE NEW CLASS!”
The attitude would embarass a toddler.
This is how they treat us – loyal customer.

It would have come as a big surprise for you if you opened the game first time after paying £50 and found you had no character slots..those first 5 weren’t free, they came as part of your purchase price. It’s a bit like ‘buy one get one free’, which again is nothing of the sort, just a marketing ploy to entice you to buy the item.

There is nothing stopping Anet giving everyone who buys HoT that extra GW2 key, people could use it for laurel farming, as a chill out account, give it to a family member, whatever.
It is a pretty crappy move for Anet to thank you for paying them twice, by giving you less.
no, really it’s not.

ONLY IF YOU ARE A NEW PLAYER
That’s the main problem;
– existing players doesn’t get a free game.
– existing players with no slot are forced to buy a new slot again.
This is like saying: “we are sorry you are not eligible for this gift as you have been supporting us until now”.
That’s a big slap is it ?
You’re entitled to your opinion just as other’s are entitled to theirs. Don’t like to read their opinion’s ? Don’t click the link.
One could say, using caps in a game forum to get your point across would embarrass a toddler, but hey that’s just my opinion right ?
I hope OP understand the level of hypocrisy necessary to create this thread. Complaining about complaining doesn’t make you better than people who are complaining.
As I remember, FAQ said that u’ll need the base game to play HoT – and nothing changed. U still need the base game. They just announced that there’s new option to buy a game, which is 2 in 1 (GW2 + HoT). Deal with it.
Btw HoT is going to be cheaper in the next months. There will apperar some sales and stuff like that. This is how it works. Are u guys going to act like this then too? U know that there will be alot of people which buy a game for a normal price, and e.g next day Anet will announce a huge sale. Ppl who bought it 1 day before will “lose” alot of money.
Same on steam – one day u can buy some games for the normal price, and in the next there’s free giveaway.

How else am I supposed to represent the overwrought hollering?
Oh I don’t know, like a mature human being, but again that’s just my opinion. Being unhappy and voicing why you’re unhappy with a decision doesn’t make you immature, it makes you human, screaming or typing in all caps for no real good reason kind of invalidates your original comment.
Again that is just one mans opinion.

Hey, at least the Dragonhunter name feedback thread was buried. Similarly, maybe they count on giving us something else to keep us busy after this.

LOL, yes so much entitlement. They are all ‘kids’ right? I mean, they have to be childish if they are annoyed and irritated when there are cheap business practices.
It’s not just about the ‘free game’. ( Although it certainly isn’t free. )
Of course, you wouldn’t know that because you are sad. You have no idea why people are angry in the first place, do you?
I didn’t it was such a childish thing to be cautious about things.
It must be an ‘mature’ thing to blindly throw money at the screen without even knowing the details.
People are angry because of many things. The pricing for one. Is the expansion REALLY worth $50? Is there enough content in it? Or, is it 50 dollars because they tacked on the ‘free’ game? Why is there no option to not buy the expansion individually? If it’s free, why do we not get the option to use it on another account as we please? We’re the ones who pay for it.
Another thing is the fact that they’ve been really dodgy. They’ve changed the FAQ, they’ve provided VERY FEW responses, and with one of them being very useless and honestly, it seemed like it was just intended to vex the players. They will not tell us how much is actually in the expansion.
Another thing is the complete disregard for players who already had GW2. It’s not about entitlement, it’s the fact that if we buy the standard edition ($50) we’re going to have to spend $10 more dollars to get a character slot so we can buy the new character, and yet they can’t even provide that for whatever reason, despite it being digital content, meaning they’ll lose NOTHING. For players saying ‘Convert Gold to Gems’, those players have no clue that gems prices are going to drastically increase, making a lot harder to get a character slot without paying REAL money. Perhaps because they’re blindly and mindlessly defending something and being extremely aggressive, or maybe because they’re like you. Sad.
Another thing, the expansion IS the core game now. The option to buy the core game alone isn’t even there anymore, meaning Arenanet has now defined HoT to the base game as it is the only option, and they are charging full price for it.
This means that what we have now is WORTHLESS.
I will repeat this as many times as I have to.
The players do NOT work for the game developers.
It is NOT our job to pay for them, it is NOT our job to support them.
In fact, THEY should try to convince us to buy the expansion, we shouldn’t buy games to ‘support’ them when they are doing well enough. It’s not like they won’t eat if you don’t buy a pack of gems. They work for our money, and we buy what we like.
It’s simple, if I like what they are doing, I see something on the gem store I really like, I might grab it. Players who simply purchase gems just to ‘support’ the developers are encouraging bad behavior, of course, we’ve already seen this with the amount of things they release on the store, and now the store is going to be important if you want that extra slot to play the new class.
As I remember, FAQ said that u’ll need the base game to play HoT – and nothing changed. U still need the base game. They just announced that there’s new option to buy a game, which is 2 in 1 (GW2 + HoT). Deal with it.
That is THE option to buy the game.
The core purchase is not available. You are STUPID if you think we just ‘deal with it.’
That means HoT has essentially become the core game and that older copies are now worthless.

What, are you saying we should have never bought GW2 in the first place? Do you always buy your games 3 years after release?
“Oh, you paid 40$ for the core game? Sorry, you’ll have to pay for that same game again to get the expansion, while new players can get the core game+ HoT for the same price! Old players: 40+50=90 $$$ New players: 0+50=50 $$$???? profit

Xar.1387 is really reaching now, “they said you will need the core game, they never said you need to purchase it”.
Why don’t you go into a store the next time they announce something new is available and try and walk out with it, then explain that they never advertised that you need to pay for it as they escort you to the backroom, let us know how that goes for you.
