From the official release notes for HoT:

Event participation can now time out due to inactivity. If you stop completing objectives in an event, you will eventually receive a message that you are no longer participating in that event, and you will not receive rewards when the event completes. If you begin participating again before the event ends, you will regain your previous participation level immediately.

What do you think?
Am I putting too much tinfoil on my hat? ^^

It’s to stop people who tag and run. You can still just show up at the last second to collect your rewards.

I admit this is good, and maybe a little bad. But as long as it not to bad, this is good.

Probably more for the new maps too since you have many meta chains going on and they want to prevent people from doing enough in an event to get credit and then leaving for another.

I believe this is a good step forward, even if i admit to leaving one event just before the end to make my way to the next sometimes, lol.

I wonder how this will work – if it will stop tag and run or just afkers?
I hope the latter, but i don’t see it working – when i’m doing (for example) world completion, i’ll often stop and just tag an event which is obvious well in hand, in order to get participation and associated rewards, but since my input isn’t exactly required move on to avoid upscaling the event and to go on with the business i was about.

It’d be a shame, for me at least, if this system were to affect that. It means i’d likely just stop contributing at all to events i didn’t care to stay to see to completion.

Afkers, on the other hand, are probably still physically present at their computers, jsut doing something else – chatting, or browsing on another screen. Now they have to put in more work – because they have to reset their idle status – but that’s not going to significantly affect them, to tag and kill/allow to be killed one extra mob at some later point in the event.

you could do this a lot in silverwastes. tag some attackers to a fort, tag monsters attacking a caravan, run around tagging everything and get so many event completes.

While this seems good, it is actually bad since the rewards for staying until the end of an event means you only get the rewards for that event, and they are very very little. It will make more people quit doing them altogether, unless they buff the rewards to make it worthwhile vs the time spent. I guess we’ll see.

I see this change as a great news. Now people will have to work for their rewards. No more people tagging then moving to something else without contributing to the event. I hope this also affects people staying perma dead during an event.

Such a system will automatically prevents toxic behaviours such as swapping between all breach bosses, and so on.

My only fear is for people that don’t stay dead and chose to travel back from the nearest waypoint when they die. For example, on the Teq fight, will this cause players to miss on the event reward if the event succeeds while they are on they way back from the WP after a death ?

In my opinion, the system should add a 3 min grace period after a death + WP (as long as WP is done within 30s after death) and the player did not tag on another event during the grace period.
