What do you all actually think of the map??

For me personally the second I got to the map it kinda hurt my eyes a little bit. The enemies I find much more interesting and fun to fight against compared to those horrible itzel. The events I found rather boring. Navigating I really had hoped wouldn’t be as bad as the other HoT maps but I still find it rather a pain getting to point a to b and finding out you needed to be up several layers and by the time you make it up events are over.

Truthfully i love gliding, I think it’s a blast. But in a way I feel it has ruined all future maps for this game because it really just makes the maps not fun trying to get around.

Just curious what you all think of this new map

It does hurt my eyes. But I’m getting used to it. The events seem to repeat a lot. Something I can’t do for more than a half an hour at a time.

Well the event structure is pretty much what many players asked for when they criticized the timers of HoT and how everything was bound to a single meta.

I like it. The gliding navigation and the addition of glider combat are its best features. I also like the unusual look and the way the events are timed in contrast to the other HoT maps.

However, the events seem fairly generic and repetitive (although I do like the open world version of VG at the end), the map is small, and there aren’t a lot of rewards to go for after the handful on offer.

One of the things that made GW2 great at launch for me was ANet being willing to experiment outside the core game puzzles, jumping or otherwise.

I really like BF. It’s got interesting lore, visuals, climate zone transitions, foes, event chains, and I love the the new gliding skills. It’s a tiny zone so far, so I’m not going to spend most of my time there anymore. But it’s closer to the GW2 I think is great than a lot of the core zones are.

Bloodstone Fen is a really nice map when you just want to play for like half an hour and get the dailies done. I wish they’d done more with the areal skills, they’re really fun!

I’m enjoying it. The flying is fun and there’s several rewards I want. However I’m not sure that map has a great deal of replayability once you’ve gotten the rewards. Maybe it needs something like a chest for to get for your home instance that requires a key bought with Unbound Magic or the rubies to open it, to keep people coming back in to farm those items.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

It’s well made but extremly boring. The mobs there are no real threat, feels like a mix of HoT and vanilla GW open world. I don’t really like haning around there. :/

Dark, gloomy, ugly and small. Events are boring. Flying to nearly every place and constantly shot at makes it a Combat Flight Simulator with flak and all, very little to do with the rest of Guild Wars 2. I do my daily, trying to find some blood ruby’s – then I’m out. Not a place I like to hang out in.

One thing that made GW2 great at launch for me was Anet’s assurance that navigation of platforms (platforming) would not be used to advance the game. That is, jumping puzzles (platforming at that time) were there for those who enjoyed them but could be avoided altogether by those who did not. From Dry top on, and especially through HoT the thing that really distinguishes the game is it’s reliance on platforming (and obscure platforming at that) to advance the game.

I’m all for jumping puzzles, SAB, etc. It’s just not my cup of tea. And, experimenting with the game is fine with me. It’s just that making the game an obscure platformer is not an experiment I would want made.

I strongly dislike PvE…

The new map however is actually kind of fun. The endless gliding on a small map while White Mantle try to shoot you down is good fun, ontop of how kitten it looks to pewpew enemies down while gliding.

I mostly play for the new Free-For-All arena in PvP lobby.

My point was the phrase, “what made GW2 beautiful and insanely great” is ambiguous. It means something different to you than it does to me. Maybe you could instead describe what it is you do like rather than hint at what you don’t.

I think Blood Stone Fen is definitely a step in the right directions:

Pros:
1) Finally, short meta events, which are also interesting. Anet needs to stick with that going forward.
2) Air combat
3) Interesting mobs.
4) Easy to navigate.

Cons:
1) Way too crowded with mobs.
2) Small (that ties in with being too crowded). Not much to explore (something I love about GW2 maps).
3) No regular vendors :/ Only vendor you can sell stuff is on the ship. No vendors to buy salvaging kits and node farming tools.

Overall the pros way outweigh the cons. I am hoping this is the direction the maps will go in the future, while being as big and explorable, like HoT maps, while being easy to navigate, unlike HoT maps.

Good: Events are pretty independent of global timers so you can pretty much find something to do whenever you get on. Air combat is great and it is an easy to navigate area. The loot is a gold sink that gives you more than what you paid on the TP if you sold the materials.

Neutral: People don’t taxi for anything except jade which is unfortunate bc if people just taxiied this map more it would be good.

Bad: The drops of unstable salvage items are way way too low to be any match for even silverwastes. You can spend a good amount of time in the map and only get 7 refined of most tiers except T6 of mats. Imo this is at least 1/3rd or less of what it should actually be to match up to silverwastes (not even considering Auric Basin Multiloot). That is my only real criticism of the map that if you wanted materials of a variety of tiers on a lvl 80 map you need to have the drop rates of those salvage items be that much higher because instead of getting a single material tier you’re getting every type which decreases the amount of any one tier you will get.

One thing I LOVE about BF is being able to jump off the airship and plummeting down to the ground level before opening my glider at the last second. There’s few really long falls in the game. I think this one might be longer than Mt Maelstrom. The diving ach is also good for the length and scenic nature of the fall. The fly in the ointment is, of course, the homing rocks which somehow manage to hit us even as we’re falling.

I like the ominous scenery of BF. The gliding skills are fantastic and I find myself yearning for them in other maps. The bloodstone node was a welcome addition to my home instance.

It’s a more compact map with a fair amout of action packed in it. For me it means that:
1) From a navigation point of view, it’s not a nightmare to go where the action currently is
2) I got something to do every second (harvest), every minute (close rift portals), every hour (fight jade constructs and other bosses)

BUT here are some things that make me want to headbutt everyone at anet office:
1) They still havent learn that the main thing with an event is that you dont miss it. Four times out of five i missed the “jades constructs are teleporting” message because of the inventory bloating they use as a cheap mean to make us spend gems at the TP. And even when the final boss fight occurs right under your feet, you still dont see any indicator on the map. Hence you stand there wondering why nothing happened in the last 15 minutes when in fact there is lot going on. Which stupid company would add content to keep their player busy and then would make sure people have a chance to miss it.
2) Polish and pee-poo jokes from the devs: this will make its way in another post

My only beef with Bloodstone Fen is when I’m gliding around and some white mantle is aggro from across the map and uses a homing knockdown ability that hits regardless if I’m using stealth. Annoying.

(Sometimes I don’t even see where this attack even came from- like it’s THAT far away or around corners?)

Love the new map, gives much better gliding freedom + easier to navigate than for example Tangled Depths. Next time i would like a more horizontal map though, after al the vertical maps Its time for a good old walking focused map.
They do need to bring back the mob density i think, when playing at night some time ago, all alone at the bottom of the map, i was getting exhausted of all the stalking mesmers.

I think the map is okay. I would like for the projectiles to be less painful when flying around on a glider though.

The bloodstone ruby cost ought to be reduced for PvE players however for the first backpack they get. 200 blood rubies is a steep cost to pay for a backpack when dailies only provide 4 ; 2 rubies from the Jade Constructs’ chest , 4 rubies from the Legendary Unbound Guardian’s chest, 1 ruby for escorting Alari Doubleblade , 3 rubies for defeating Ghostly Justiciar Hablion.

The bloodstone cost could scale up after you purchase your first one (i.e. 100 blood rubies, then 150 for 2nd , 200 for 3rd).

I mostly WvW and PvP and was able to complete the reward tracks to get the backpack (a reward track rewards 50). PvP is by far the fastest.

It’s a nice enough map to glide around in, and hop from event to event. My only complaint is that beyond dailies, the blood rubies are locked behind dreadful zergs. I prefer smaller scale events with a handful of other people where I can actually see what’s going on.

Fighting Unbound Guardian on a full map is like watching a ten-minute power point of Jackson Pollock paintings.

I didn’t see you mention it as a source, but mining bloodstone crystals also provides blood rubies. I’d be surprised if the drop rate were better than 1 ruby per node, but there are many nodes on the map.

Also, the glider 5 skill is particularly useful in avoiding rocks. Did you know if you hold down the key when activating this skill you will glide AND evade for a much longer distance? It also covers you with stability. I’m not sure any of this is mentioned in the tooltip for the skill, so not everyone is immediately aware of it.

Running a passive stun break trait is another great defense against those rocks.

Glider 5 will cover you from that initial barrage (like when taking off from the crater walls with an army of white mantle nearby!) and may take you out of range of the next round. But it’s a good idea to transition straight into stealth after the evade. Alternatively, dropping out of the sky immediately returns you to normal range rules so new projectiles can’t be thrown (but projectiles in flight are another matter!).

Combine these methods with a passive stun break and the rocks become a trivial issue. Now taking massive amounts of damage in flight is another matter! Use glider 5 to avoid that, too!

I love the map. The gliding skills provide a new way to play. The new foes are a just a bit more of a challenge, which I love. It also has TWO meta events, although the Jade one is my favorite. The new currency, Unbound Magic, is cool, you get it in small amounts, but its not hard to get. The bloodstone rocks(forgot what they’re called), are a nice change from the usual mining nodes. I personally can not find any cons to this map, only pros, but that’s just me.

I do like the map, the only thing that actually bothers me is the way mobs can knock you down or transform you from insane ranges.. I hate mechanics like that and no matter what excuse.. I’ll never enjoy them. Apart from that, it’s the only non-instance map that has no jumping puzzle as far as I know (well.. I think the desert borderlands has none either because of how it affected EB).

Things I do like is the amount of ways you can fly all over the place, lore and aerial combat. I think it was also nice that they added a Vale Guardian in there. The alien location isn’t really my thing (bright unnatural place) but hey, that’s my human instinct loving caves, forests and mountains so no harm done there :P If this is an indication for what’s to come this will definetely be the best LS season yet.
