Edit²: I have to confess… Bigtony and I are the ones behind the Revenant’s concept.

hmm I doubt that they came up with the idea only 4 months ago, seems more like a really big coincidence to me.
If this was legit, I’d wonder how crazy development of new stuff looks like at Anet.
I would say that it is almost guaranteed that they already had the Revenant planned out when Rytlock disappeared into the Mists, and that was in July. Which is about 7 months ago.

In the latest POI they say they’ve been working on the Revenant since the start of Guild Wars 2 development.

I know the Revenant has been on the table for a while, I just wanted to point out the coincidence (and so you know how excited I am to see my “dream profession” come to life ^^)

And the necromancer fades into memory… Yeah, the revenant sure got everything the necromancer community has been asking for for 2.5 years… Dream profession… yeah…
I think it’s pretty safe to assume that the traitlines will include multiple legends. Right now theres only half the selection of major traits in each line, compared to other classes. So most likely, they will add 3 more major traits to the adept and master tiers, and with these, incorporate one additonal Legend to each traitline.
That makes eight legends if the last two traitlines are similar.
Yep I agree. Only 1 trait specially mentions “legendary demon stance” in the “Malix” line. And the “dwarf line” doesn’t even mention any specific ones for him. There’s plenty of room to add other traits for specific legends. Or, they can always add a second “legendary demon” that has a different focus, though that’s a bit unlikely.
With the way that is phrased, it seems there may be more than one “Demon stance”. Here’s to hoping for Kanaxai.
On a different note;
I’ve also had a good think about it and I think 7 Legends is the better and more interesting option to 4 Legends and more utility skills per Legend but that’s just my opinion.
I’m really hoping that the revenant has the most weapon choices of all the professions. With no weapon swap and potentially predetermined utility bars, making them fill a “weapon-master” role could be a saving grace for build diversity. Being able to choose from almost any weapon, (and dual weapon combination), in the game would certainly be a selling point for the rev.

Warrior claims that spot just like necro holds king of condi, thief mobility and disengagement. Let’s all not forget we have 8 classes already.
Im curious about axe 4 for revenant as i see possible exploit there in wvw. If it does work like axe 3 on warrior where you can throw it to hit someone on the wall, revenant will also have that possibility, but unlike some joke cripple, he will teleport on the wall behind target. If there inst anything to that prevent situation i will have a lot of fun in the future

My guess is that it’s a shadowstep or Axe 4 follows the ground like Deathly Swarm. Either works well to prevent WvW abuse.

It’ll probably work like most shadowsteps in the game, it won’t work on enemies on top of walls in towers and keeps.

the rule of thumb for movement skills is “they don’t do vertical unless the mesh is bugged”.
in other words, if you hit someone on a wall with your teleport axe, you’ll hit the wall on your teleport, instead of going up there.
thief already has a skill like that, shadow shot. you shoot an enemy, and if the bullet hits, you teleport to them.
Why would you expect them to do that? Existing professions haven’t had any new weapons given to them. Except of course via….. the upcoming specialisations. Which is where I’d expect to see revs getting new legends.
Specializations are supposed to change the class mechanic or offer a new one (says here on the GW2 Wiki) so if Revenant’s mechanic is channeling legends already then the new specialization should be something different.
Reading comprehension failure there.
What the wiki says is new specialisations will offer new profession mechanics or alter existing ones. Go watch the promo trailer again. Rangers have animal pets, yes? Looks like the druid does too.
There’s no reason to believe the revenant spec won’t have something to do with legends. Quite the opposite. Based on the single certain example we have, specialisations are thematically linked to the base profession. Rangers are into nature. In a different way so are druids. Same focus, different approach.
So the revenant spec could channel legends in a different manner. It could be something simple like flipping the base design – one equipped legend at a time but two weapon sets. That could be something about devoting more focus to a single legend.
Or it could be something more exotic like…. giving us paired legendary opposites and introducing a balance mechanic to energy. When your bar is full for one legend it’s empty for the other.
There are many ways like this that new specializations could maintain their focus on legends. And there isn’t much else known about the mists that offers an obvious alternative for a new revenant spec.

My only wish for the Revenant is that if they insist on coming up on new ways to use awesome heavy weapons (i.e. long range GS for Mesmer, long range Hammer for Revenant) is that they also make some sort of melee staff. Now I have no idea how they’d do it or if it’d be viable, but I think the animations would be really sweet and would definitely match the Revenant; think of how cool it’d be to have lances or polearms.
Uh yeah. Melee staff would be cool: Martial Arts Powaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Given the initial trailer, melee staff is incredibly likely on Revenant.
Then I will say good bye to my other 8 characters and only melee staff Revenant 24/7, no matter if it has any effect or not XD

I made my comment because yours sounded like all that will happen with a Revenant’s specialization is that they get a new legend. So I meant to say that it’d be much more than just getting a new legend because that doesn’t alter or change their existing mechanic at all. It wasn’t meant to be taken as not having to do with legends at all.

that was my thought as well – that the revenant specialization will also give them staves, but used as a melee weapon instead of a long range/buff weapon.
