Mastery progression feels way too grindy

Am I the only one feeling that mastery progression is way too grindy? i mean its understandable that it needs to be hard and should take time, but it just doesnt make sense to me how killing mobs and doing pact events will make me a better glider.
It’s really no different than just simply leveling as far as I can tell. Don’t know what else you really expect.
I see no problem with it. Gives people something to work towards post 80.

I don’t think about it as grindy at all, i spent a few hours there and already got third tier of gliding and bouncing mushrooms unlocked.

Well how would you train gliding? jump from cliff and glid 5 times to upgrade a trait? no that is even worse, thing is there is no true way to perfect training.

Imo part of the problem is too many bugged events. Since doing events is the way to get the most exp, working on an event then having it bug at the end means you lose all that time. A better time to judge the level of grindiness will be the next beta where hopefully the events will be working.

For something that is account-bound and meant to be our post-80 progression? No, not really.

Welcome to gaming? I mean in GW2 (like in most xp-based games) it’s already the case that getting xp for whatever (hitting a foe with a sword, rezzing an ally, viewing a vista, completing a heart by collecting apples etcetc) makes you better in all regards. How is this any different?
I think the events are broken, they don’t scale well and take too long.

I do feel that it takes longer than usual to level up.I think the experience rates are the same but there are less events to be done. Many of them bugged (in many cases with that weird 5 number bug ) and more experience should be rewarded for longer events.Probably the most important issue is that with such a big map, we don’t even know when certain events start unless we’re being told on map chat.
I’m hoping the Mastery system is made to be a bit more inclusive to players new to the zone. It kind of sucks that someone can bypass all of the running and waiting just by having more mastery points than I do. I also wonder if Itzal mastery, etc. will even be relevant once you leave Verdant Brink. Unless mastery objects go beyond these zones, the Mastery system will likely turn into Guild Missions all over again.

Endgame progression in MMO’s is grindy. Working as intended. Masteries are account bound, so they ought to take more than an hour, a day or even a weekend to get.
over the weekend not even playing the beta the whole time I was even online, and spending some time just climbing, not to mention bugged events that didnt complete, I got 1 gliding, 2 itzel and 1/2 nuhoch levels. I dont think thats too slow at all especially since they are account bound.
What I do not care for is the fact you grind to unlock masteries, then you gotta spend points on them. When they unlock via grinding they should be made available then. Its like a double dip of grinding here.

I guess it’s like the skills and traits. You have to level a sufficient number of times then use the Hero points you gained to actually buy the skills and traits you want.
Here you have to level and have the mastery points needed to buy the mastery line you want.

The new Mastery system could use some tweaks. It just seems redundant to have to fill an XP bar to merely gain access to a skill, AND earn mastery points to spend to fully activate the skill. It’s an unnecessary level of complexity. ANet should pick one or the other.

This, I cant agree more.
I found it really grindy too – killing monsters in particular, to level my gliding. I think it will be better though once HoT releases, because then we hopefully won’t have bugged events (and events are usually where the best xp for levelling the masteries comes from).
But yeah it doesn’t really make sense in regards to levelling gliding by killing monsters and doing events. It’s like going to cooking school and somehow getting experience in architecture. Ah well, many things don’t make sense in games so I don’t really care lol.

It’s not grindy at all. It barely took me a few hours to be able to glide.
The feeling of actually earning something is a good feeling I wish more people would strive for.
It’s account bound so it should take awhile to get things
If it was quick, people would complain in a week there’s nothing to go for.
Harder, longer the better for things like this
