See title.

Trait lines not bound to specific legends.
For four of the five trait lines to be philosophically bound to legends is a direct limit on the number of legends there can be. Make them general lines for the most part, though a few Legend-specific major traits are fine.

Seven legends at minimum.
Jalis
Mallyx
Shiro
Glint
Saul D’Allesio
Master Togo
Turai Ossa

Additional weapon options
Staff (Melee)
Sword (MH/OH)
Dagger (MH/OH)
Pistol (MH/OH)
Torch

To increase customization

Pick between one of three Elite skills for each Legend.

Channel skill – when swapping between legends, this minor skill occurs. This skill can be slotted in and has both standard and racial options.

Too much human. I would like to see at least 1 legend to be aligned with each of the playable races. not race-locked legends, but just a nod to the playable races. Ill be pretty upset if my Charr Revenant gets shoehorned into siphoning power from a bunch of humans.

Humans – Whoever. Take your pick. Nearly all major characters are human.
Norn – Asgeir Dragonrender
Sylvari – …Somebody. Ventai maybe?
Asura – Snaff
Charr – Kalla Scorchrazor/Pyre Fierceshot

Alright then.

Jalis.
Mallyx.
Shiro.
Asgeir.
Ventari.
Snaff. (Honestly, potential Asuran legends are lame).
Pyre Fierceshot.
Glint. (Absolute must, given how important she is to the game as whole).

7 at minimum? if revenant is going to have a similar amount of utilities as other professions, then it’s 6 at most.

i don’t mind if they only go for 4 or 5 legends, provided there are more than just 3 utilities per legend, and/or there are generic skills that any legend can slot in (like signets)

Irrelevant, given that these are effectively weapon swaps and that they sacrifice F1-F4 skills for these. Be objective.

elementalists don’t have F4 skills either, and though they have 20 weapon skills per set, they have far, far less weapon options than any class in the game. and they have the same amount of utilities as everyone else.

you be objective.

Jalis
Mallyx
Shiro
Glint
Saul D’Allesio
Master Togo
Turai Ossa

Those could actually work in terms of allowing different gameplay, like
tank+CC – Jalis
condition damage – Mallyx
rogue theme- Shiro
guardian-like close – Saul D’Alessio
heals and turrets – Master Togo
brute-force fighter – Turai Ossa
Glint is the difficult one – the GW1 glint was tank+CC which is what Jalis already does. There’s the aspect arena skills though, which are aspected to glint, they’re mobility+CC.

Revenants get HALF the “weapon swap skills” of their cousin, the Elementalist via legend swaps.

Revenants have the fewest skills per bar of any profession, not counting a no-kit Engineer (here I am counting attunements and legend swaps as what they actually are – weapon swaps substitutes). They have 15 actual skills, with the Warrior having the second fewest at 16.

Revenants cannot customize their 6-0 skills in their current state.

Opposing players know exactly 2/3rd of a Revenant’s build instantly by looking at their Legend and weapon set. The other third immediately reveals itself on legend swap. No other class suffers from this weakness.

Now, I could go on as to why your argument doesn’t work, but frankly, I shouldn’t need to. You’ve made the assertion that the number of Revenant legends should be based on the number of utilities on other classes, despite the fact that they have more skills and can customize their utilities.

Revenant’s by design are the most utility-centric profession in the game, just like how Elementalists are the most weapon-skill centric and Warriors are the most weapon-variety centric. You do not have an argument, because the nature of the profession lends itself to having an objectively higher number of said skills in exchange for the (very large) number of trade-offs already mentioned.

Not that I’ve anything against all the races getting a legend but I don’t think there’s enough room in the current scheme.

We’ve seen two already, reasonably can’t expect to see more than about 4 or 5 based on what they’ve said, and at least one of the remaining is likely to be a dragon based on screenshots. That only leaves room for 2 more.

Although there is their specialisation. 5 legends, 5 player races. Perhaps the revenant spec could do it. And I do like the idea of Ventari for the Sylvari.

Revenants have the fewest skills per bar…

IMO there’s too much focus on quantity.

You can execute ONE ability at a time. Elementalists and fully kitted engineers can keep their gazillion abilities. There’s damage, CC and healing. All eles and engs get is a 1001 variations on those.

Revenants may have fewer utilities to choose from but they have unparalleled control over them and that’s priceless.

They are not forced into the exact same rotation of abilities every single fight. If it makes sense to do so they can ignore some altogether and focus on others. That’s where their variety comes into play. For the PvP nuts that means regardless of your fewer abilities no other player can truly predict what you’ll do with them.

I much prefer this to most of the existing profession designs.

revenants also get to have two healing and two elite skills at a time, plus 6 utilities, so really, this whole argument about access to skills while in combat is pointless, especially if you start counting the F1-4 buttons as skills.

what does matter though, is that devs already said to look at the amount of utilities other professions have for an estimate at the amount of legends we’ll see, and that like it or not, the revenant won’t be some special child with far more utility skills than everyone else.

Well Legends seem to be kind of like Elementalist Atunements, so I’d assume ~4. One for each major playstyle.

  • Jalis for tanking
  • Mallyx for Conditions
  • One for Berserking
  • One for healing

It is pretty easy, really. 4 is the most likely, because : 4 Healskills, 4 elites. However, that would mean each legend gets a pool of 5 utilities. The other way to look at it is “6-7 legends with locked 3 utilities” → 21 utilities total, however then there’D be a problem with elites/heals. And the possibility that would basically fit both but (imho) the lamest: 8 legends, 2 dwarfs, 2 demons, and 2 of either of the others. Propably human and then judging from the trailer, dragon. with that those two could have shared heals and a unique set of utilities each. However, I’d say this is the least likely thing to happen, because, one, 8 stances would be overkill, and second, mallyx’s and jalis’s ultis wouldn’t make sense on any other demon/dwarf.

8 legends, 2 dwarfs, 2 demons, and 2 of either of the others.

Why does it have ot be this strict?

Why is there a new thread about revenant’s legends every other day? Just use the google search and the existing threads maybe?
Also, just gonna quote myself from another thread here:

As mentioned before we know about two available legends, Jalis and Mallyx, both of which are form different campaigns. Jalis is a character form prophecie (he did appearin EoTN but he was a bigger characterin Prophecies) and Mallyx is from Nightfall. This makes me think that we will get 1 character from each release as a hero, and since based on trait lines we will get 4 legends, they will balance on 2 Villains/2 Heroes.

While they will probably see to have some variety in their group of legends, they certainly will not make it dependant on the number of GW1 parts.

When the legends are related to the traitlines, i think 4,5,8,10 are themost likely numbers of legends. Depends on wheter or not the class traitline will have a legend aswell. I mean, Ele doesnt have an Arcane attunement either.

4 or 5 would mean that the revenant only has 12-15 utility skills, which really isnt much in my opinion. Right now all classes have far more and the expansion will most likely add some.
The number of heal/elite skills would suggest 4 or 5, but i think the expansion mgiht add some of those too..

So i expect there to be 8 legends, which each traitline having two legends tied to it. Cause 4 isnt enough, 5 is unlikely and 10 is too much.

With the known and obvious ones out of the way (Jalis, Mallyx, Glint), i think we may see:
-Jora: As slayer of Svanir, she plays a very important role and it’s one of the few norn (the legends cant all be humans) that could be a legend. Asgeir might be possible too, but i dont think it’s going to be him.
-A charr. Pyre Fierceshot, i think. He never struck my as one of the important heroes of GW1, but he started the Rebellion and the charr still live by his words ‘there are no gods for the charr’. Kalla Scorchrazor might also be an option.
-Shiro Tagachi. For the reason you mentioned, OP. It’s also a bad guy and if we want to keep the balance of good/bad legends, we need more of those.
-Vizu: Alternatively, if it isnt Shiro, then Vizu could be the ‘factions legend’.
-Turai Ossa, the Ghostly Hero: THE legend of GW1 pvp and plays a role in the first ascension in the Guild Wars 1 games. Also got recently featured in the Living Story.
-Ventari for the salads? Dunno what else to choose here.

Legends that i find unlikely:
-Gwen: at least i hope not. Annoying, immature, childish kitten with anger issues. And if you include her, you might aswell include all kinds of companions like Eve, Livia, Cynn, Mhenlo etc.. Also, imagine Rytlock, the very first Revenant, channeling Logan Runaway’s ancestor.
-Svanir: very important bad guy. But while Mallyx as servant of Abaddon is fine in my book, i somehow doubt that we will be able to channel/invoke/whatever the legends of dragon minions.
-Palawa Joko: is great, but this guy is still…not alive, but active.
-Verata: would be cool, but not important enough
-Kilroy Stonekin: I would love to have him as a legend. Really uncertain about him, to be honest. Hes definitely legendary, but also not that important for the lore of Guild Wars.

8 legends, 2 dwarfs, 2 demons, and 2 of either of the others.

Why does it have ot be this strict?

I made my assumption this strict because otherwise having the same healing skill tagged “Legendary Dwarf Stance” or in case of Mallyx “Legendary Demon Stance” on 2 different legends would make no bloody sense. I went by Anets statement that the numbers will be almost equal to existing professions, meaning 4 heals, 4 elites and around 20 utilities. And 4 Elites w/o specialisation is already one elite more than the other classes have, i really doubt the Revenant will have access to more than 4 elites and heals.

Also i said this was the least likely thing to happen, my bet is on 4 Legends with a set of 5 utilities each to get to a total of 20. Or 4 Legends with 3 each and 8 generic ones that nobody will use because they don’t fit in the synergy the legends (especially mallyx) have displayed.
