Interesting that they are categorized under “New Allies.”

Their city also looks massively huge and they look to have a key role in the expansion.

Well, we humans and the charr got over our differences (mostly), so I guess we can smooth things over with the Mursaat as well. After all, they were one of the races that fought the ED previously, so their input would be vital.

Did the Mursaat really do anything bad? Way I remember it, we removed them and opened the door for Primordius to release the titans (destroyers) into the world at the behest of Khilbron (who sank his kingdom into Zhaitan’s realm where he was turned into the Lich).

I think the Mursaat were actually good guys that went about it the wrong way.

I could see them aiding us after 250 years of rebuilding after their sounding defeat at the hands of the flameseeker prophecy. They’ve probably been struggling against Mordemoth’s influence ever since Khilbron betrayed us.

The Mursaat abandoned the rest of the races to fend for themselves against the Elder Dragons the first time around. They sacrificed swathes of innocents just to keep themselves alive. They killed lots of other people for no known reason. Lazarus saved himself at the cost of people he tricked into thinking he was blessing.

Most of it isn’t malicious, and I might even be hard-pressed to call it evil, but they did plenty of bad things.

For all we know, the Mursaat we fought in GW1 were just a group of outcasts.

They did it before… all the Charr in GW1 were supposedly flame legion. Simple lore mechanism for making a race more “open” to negotiations.

We might help the Mursaat fight the descendants of Lazarus the Dire. Who may have been an outcasted criminal in their culture.

In addition, the Mursaat were not native to the Maguuma Jungle whereas the Seers came from, except that we can still see their ruins in GW1 and GW2).

Except for their bodies glowed. Seers weren’t decked out in armor from head to toe like the Mursaat.

Edit:
Apparently neither were the mursaat (checked Wiki), they always looked like they were in game since their skin seemed to be the same color as their armor on my older system.

Lore wise Seer wouldn’t make sense. The Seers dwindled over time (not due to the war and according to the few seers you meet in GW1) even without being assaulted by the dragons. Mursaat were just in hiding until they united with the White Mantle.

In all fairness the Mursaat aren’t evil, they’re just rather interested in their own survival (because who wouldn’t be?).
So as long as we have similar objectives I can see an alliance.

I don’t think either race making a major re-appearance would make sense myself, but I still believe they look closer to Seers than Mursaat. Also, I don’t recall Seers or Mursaat glowing at all? Where did you get that?

EDIT: Also, why would the Mursaat decide to stick around this time after they found out how to hide last time? It makes no sense for it to be Mursaat.

Margonites glowed, perhaps a branch of Abaddon’s minions somehow showed up in Maguuma during Nightfall and were left without a leader when he was replaced by Kormir and created their own civilization in the last 250 years.

Mursaat were floating humans, Seers looked like aliens. Neither glowed.

It makes no sense for Margonites either. First off, the ones that survived have likely been killed by now. If, by some chance, a group escaped to the Maguuma, there would only be as many as had arrived with that group, given their sterility.

The seers were an enigmatic, magical race. During the last rise of the Elder Dragons, they forged the original Bloodstone to contain all untainted magic, including the jotun’s. They allied with the forgotten, dwarves, jotun, and mursaat to resist the Elder Dragons and survived. During this time, the five races worked together until the mursaat betrayed the other races and fled from the world. In the subsequent war between the mursaat and the seers, the seers were able to develop a defense against the mursaat’s Spectral Agony magic, but it was created too late in the war and the seers lost. Seer ruins exist still, but those who find them do not know their origins.1

Roughly 250 years ago, one of the few surviving seers aided some Ascalonian heroes in fighting the mursaat and, intentionally or not, releasing the titans. During the Krytan Civil War, Zinn was experimenting with a seer, though it’s unknown whether it was alive or dead, and seer magic became an instrumental part of the Shining Blade’s plan during the Battle for Lion’s Arch.

Also, the floaty things in the trailer match the mursaat description from when Saul D’Alessio met them: “They were tall and thin with strange wing-like appendages that waved about in the slightest breeze. When they walked, their feet seemed not to touch the ground, and when they spoke, it was the most melodious sound he had ever heard”. how can it be allies when there is ONLY 1 mursaat left?

The mursaat betrayed all the other races, which is why the dragons were able to come back. so glint made the flameseeker prophecies were the titans came down to destroy the mursaat (which the heros of gw1 helped to fulfill) and only lazarus survived because he locked his power away in trinkets so he wasnt a mursaat anymore. the people who had the trinkets died when lazarus took them back, so justicar naveed went into hiding so that lazarus couldn’t fully resurect, and so lazarus wouldnt kill him.

so i can see lazarus finding the last trinket to restore himself, and assisting the destruction of the dragons, but since only 1 is left, how can their be more than 1 in gw2?

There was 1 mursaat left…as far as the White Mantle, asura, and Krytan humans knew. It was never confirmed that there weren’t more of them hanging out in their main city, not involved in Krytan-charr politics.

For what i saw they can be anything but not mursaats……..mursaats had real bodies not energy made bodies, what we saw in HoT trailer had no hands (just 1 big claw per arm) and mursaats have hands. This would be a too big redesign for an icon as mursaats, but maybe they are mursaat’s ancestors…….

The mursaat were always neutral….. but the heroes in guild wars one feared them because they appeared to be evil.

What you find out in Guild Wars Prophecies….. in this order…. is

There is this undead Lich guy behind the undead forces who is definitely a bad guy…

You meetThe White Mantle and they hate the undead just as much as you do…. cool new allies!
Lets do errands for these people to show our thanks.

The White mantle is actually centered around some sort of cult where people are being sacrificed on something called a bloodstone deep within the jungle…. the people who tell you this are called The Shining Blade….
These Shining Blade people saved us from being sacrificed….
Lets help these guys out.

So….. The White Mantle are not actually good guys…. and they worship the Mursaat…. so the Mursaat must be bad guys too….. right?
Lets steer clear of those guys.

Vizier Khilbron, a powerful necromancer, will save us from the White Mantle, using his powerful necromancer magic to summon more undead that the White Mantle hates so much. New ally get!

(you do some mucking around in the desert and end up in the southern shiverpeaks… and continue to attempt to fulfill the flameseeker prophecies with Glint’s instructions)

You need to go rescue your shining blade friends, who were captured by an alliance of White Mantle (we think they are bad guys), Stone Summit(bad guys), and Mursaat(we think they are bad guys). You actually fight a mursaat for the first time and holy kitten they hurt a lot. Definitely bad guys. ….right?

Vizier Khilbron is still helping us kick kitten and try and get our shining blade friends back….. We kick the enemies’ kitten and save the day!

Afterward Khilbron tells us the following:

“This is just as it was written in the Flameseeker Prophecies. An opening will be given to the disciples of the Unseen. The peaks and valleys of the Shiverpeaks will be painted in blood. At this time, the Ascendants will rise, and the way to the Door will be clear. The time of our judgment is near. We must prepare. Today’s was a great victory, but now your true challenge begins. You must go to the Ring of Fire island chain. In the caldera of the largest volcano you will find the power you need. "

Sure thing, Khilbron…. we’ve got your back.

We go to the ring of fire….. Its loaded with Mursaat and White Mantle…

They throw everything they have against us but we are still victorious.

We discover they are protecting another bloodstone (like the ones they have been sacrificing people on in the jungle)

We finish off the Mursaat and the White Mantle….. but

PLOT TWIST

SPOILER ALERT

Vizier Khilbron is actually the Lich….. and he wanted the white mantle (and also the mursaat) destroyed so he could open the ‘Door of Komalie’…. basically a gate to hell.

…and you just helped him succeed.

So the Mursaat were just trying to keep the Door of Komalie shut. Which is a noble cause…. and attempted to stop anyone from fulfilling the flameseeker prophecies, so that kitten would not hit the fan.

Everthing we have seen of the Mursaat paints them as self serving at the expanse of anyone and everyone else.

People seem to be glossing over a lot of details. The Mursaat were keeping the door close true, but because the prophecy stated that the Titans would annihilate the Mursaat. They were also doing it by sacrificing anyone among the humans who could be a potential threat to them by trapping their souls in batteries and using them as fuel which drove the spirits insane.

Add to that that they were Tyrants. Their White Mantle servants were far from benevolent behind the façade and even after the Titan threat was removed the Mursaat continued to try and oppress the humans of Kryta. Even now the White Mantle causes major problems for humanity.

They saved Kryta, its true. They also killed almost all the humans defending Kryta during that battle after the battle had been won and the humans were cheering for them. Only there most devout were spared.

Short story, the Mursaat have in the past and now been portrayed as ruthless and self serving at the expanse of everyone else. Wether that is evil or not depends on your definition.

However the humans allying with the Mursaat would be kind of like the Charr allying with the Titans. False gods that won major victories for the race but oppressed and mistreated them until overthrown and left behind a cult that harasses the race to this day.

It just fits the lore better than anything else to have it be mursaat than anything else, including seers. If you compare pictures of the original mursaat, seers, and margonites, the old mursaat still resemble them the best. They’ve been missing since the end of the conflict we had in Kryta in GW1. They all assumed extinction but I doubt it because what is more interesting for a story than to have old enemies come back and suddenly become “friendly?” Sounds like an awesome way to introduce a little bit of the intrigue we’ve been missing in the game and bring back something from the game many of us began this journey with. There have been many hints pointing at this scenario, specifically the white-mantle badges in the silverwastes, among other things.
