No Dungeons No Cash
So, you have spent over $1000 on the game, and now you no longer will if there are no new dungeons.
One would have thought that with that line of thinking you would have stopped giving them money a long time ago, seeing as dungeons haven’t really been getting much love for years.

Anyway, don’t get your hopes up in new dungeon, I’m hoping “challanging” content will be challanging.

Do something harder than ac.
They’ve said that “challenging group content” will be part of the expansion but haven’t given us any more information than that. Sounds a lot like dungeons, or something very similar (raids?) though.

Well.. some people fear that “challenging group content” will just be open world bosses like the Wyvern and Tequatl. We’ll have to wait and see though.

Open world content cannot be challenging skill-wise, only on the organisation level like the triple wurm which could be just as well in an instance since only organised servers (or guilds) are able to take it down. There’s just too much variation in skill level in open world (on which you have no effect) it would be either too hard or too easy for players.

I think they have said somewhere that Wyvern is not the challenging group content, it’s a regular boss.
@rotten:
Like what? To my best of knowledge, I’ve done all of them. Altough I might not remember all, some of those were 2 yaers ago.
So do you just not do anything else but dungeons all day, every day? Are dungeons so important to you that you don’t consider anything else in the game worth paying for?
I mean, sure, I totally support not paying for stuff you don’t like, that’s a perfectly rational thing to do; it’s just a bit less rational if you’re actually refusing to spend money on things you do like simply because of one missing feature.
1000$? Isn’t that a bit much for a video game? Frankly, if you like the game that much, paying something like 50$ for an expansion might be worth it. But hey, do as you want.
If you play gw2 for its dungeons maybe your fist 1$ spent was already a mistake…

If you have played WoW since release and are still playing you have paid more than that in subscriptions alone. The add in a couple of 100$ more for the base game and the expansions.

I will not buy the expansion or purchase anything from the gem store again.

Wow. I mean really. slow claps We thank you, ohh great game supporter. You have been SUCH a strong member of this community. This being your first post when they have had dev threads asking what, WE, the community wants.
Do you think you are the only person that has spent $1k on this game? Or more. Do you think you, as a whiner and a complainer, and not a contributor matter more than a person that paid even $10 in the sale to buy this game? You do not. Because no matter how much money you throw around, or claim to throw around in the background, you are not a member of this community. I would rather that Anet pay attention to that player that just bought the game for ten bucks and actually voices a concern than some guy claiming he spent this much as a reason they should change something.
Go play WoW, they be all about dem bucks.
Believe or dont believe i dont really care how much u think ive spent, i have watched numerous people consistently voice their opinions on this forum to which anet never replies. Just hop on the dungeon forums and look how regularly anet responds never is the answer.
people are always going on about the majority of the player base does living story hardly anyone does dungeons, have you ever stopped to wonder why? what did people do pre living story in the open world……. nothing besides orr it was a deserted waste land. Anet has spent all its time and resources into the living world to get you there and like puppets you followed. If it had of spent a fraction of those resources in spvp or dungeons we would probably have an esports and much larger dungeon fanbase.
lets time warp and go back to launch into a time when anet didnt waste all its resources on ls, and insted created 2v2 or 3v3 arenas where people could actually see what was happening in the battles engaging the audience and made it actually enjoyable to watch rather than a particle cluster bomb.
what if anet had of created a huge arena where people could select from a list any boss in the game and spectators could watch people solo duo trio or full party the boss. what if instead of 1 boss people with elite skills could fight multiple bosses at the same time in front of an audience.
this game had the potential to be great rewarding and challenging where people felt proud in the sense of achievement from accomplishing things. instead they decide to create this unskilled zerg mentality where the only achievement people have is in chasing points.
Wow. I mean really. slow claps We thank you, ohh great game supporter.
That’s unneeded :( He has supported the game. And he has every right to voice his concern and if he chooses to, not to support the game anymore
PD: And yeah … it’s pretty obvious we’re not going to get new dungeons. If we were, they wouldn’t be using some cryptic terminology, and would have hyped it when they announced the expansion.
OP is just showing that there are people who support dungeons but arent vocal. I can attest to that. My guild currently holds about 30 members. I am the only regularly vocal member of the guild. We are a speedrun and dungeon/fractal solo guild. Also on EU there are atleast 4 other big speedrun guilds with even more members than us. And they have a maximum of a couple vocal members per guild on the forums aswell. Same goes for NA speedrun guilds. There are less of those but they have far larger numbers in each guild.
Also i have lost count at the amount of people that have asked me for dungeon help and thanked me for info in game. And these are people who never post on the forums. Compare this to the fact that i can recall almost everyone who posts regularly on the dungeon subforum (including people that no longer play/post). Also there is never a shortage of dungeon groups on the LFG. So even if the community is a minority. Its not as small as people make it out to be and its only a minority because of the lack of support weve had since release. As someone thats very involved in the dungeon community its never felt like a small minority to me.

I couldn’t disagree more. You play a different game than I do.

You might find that hard to believe, but $1000 is chump change for a lot of people that aren’t college students or Walmart employees.
Well, if you think new dungeons should be implemented, then give reasons. In this regard, it does not give your opinion any weight whether you spent 5 bucks on the game or 20.000. Not to mention even though your 1.000 bucks sound much, they probably do not pay one week worth in developer wages.
edit: not that I am saying I do not agree with you, but your argument basically is limited to “I am important, that is reason enough for Anet to do so”.

I would rather they abandon the idea of rambling dungeons that pull people out of the main game for extended periods of time and, instead, focus on smaller, more challenging instanced content (single fights instanced for 5 players).
Not only would it be more fun, but it would a more sustainable model – allowing them to add in challenging 5 person content quicker thank the dungeon model does now.
As for whether dungeons will be a part of HOT, it is pure speculation, but I believe the focus for 5 person parties will be heavily on Fractals rather than dungeons. I dont think we will see new dungeons, but I do think major additions to fractals may be a reality.
None of them are harder than AC.
I’m really curious how you can complete high level dungeons like arah just by spamming 11111. Unless you play with tanky builds, then it’s understandable since they are OP.

He’s correct. Open world content doesn’t require anything more than using just your autoattacks from a safe distance and dodging occasionally.

Posturing, threats and insults. What a profoundly ineffective way of approaching the acquisition of content you would like to see in the expansion …
What really bugs me is they claimed group content… and now it seems like they’re trying to pass off open world as the group content?
The same open world we’ve done for 2 and a 1/2 years that has no teamwork and is just everyone standing there and having a cup of tea as the game animations play on?
Seriously if they’re saying it’s different because you can put more bleeds on the enemy… just wow. Next open world / RPG game. It’s been real.
As a GW1 player and a purchaser of the CE of GW2, I’m with the OP. It seems like there will be no instanced group content in the expansion. I think ANET as a studio just is not capable of it anymore. They lack the developer talent or the desire to build instanced group content.
So, that said, if the fractal mastery system isn’t appealing, I won’t be buying the expansion either.

I also think the Dungeon community is far too small to qualify for a Boycott scenario , but good luck with your attempts to extort the Devs!

please provide the quote for where they have said that
only thing i have heard is that challenging group content is coming nothing more
It’s really too bad, with action based combat you can make some really spectacular dungeons… just look at Wildstars dungeons, they were phenomenal. If you took GW2’s open world systems and wildstars dungeons you’d have the perfect game.
Remember, people really struggled with GW2’s dungeons at launch. It is only after running the exact same dungeons every day for nearly 3 years that we think they are incredibly easy. You know exactly where to stand, exactly when to fire attacks and exactly where to go. I bet there is someone out there who could run AC blindfolded at this point.
there will be new dungeons. so dont worry OP.

the OP was threatening A.NET of boycotting the game if there will be no new dungeons. Is he sure that there will be no new dungeons?
it’s more likely that a dungeon or 2 will be added since a whole new region will be added. and currently in almost every region there is a dungeon.

Actually I agree with OP. As a dedicated dungeoneer I feel disappointed that no dungeons were mentioned in HoT. I don’t understand why anet is so stubborn to push away from the game the only professional community next to serious pvpers.

Lets be honest.
There isn’t a dungeon in this game that is challenging.
Either your zerk rushing or your doing something completely different for the lol’s.
One is going to be faster than the other.
But no dungeon in this game is especially difficult
Arah can be just as easy (or easier depending on your group) as AC
Everything is easy when people have learned the encounters. That is always the case.
Back at release people complained like mad about how the dungeons were too hard and basically impossible.
Later when the revamped AC it was the same again, people claimed it was way too hard.
They can change and revamp things all they want but when people figure out how to do it the encounters will be considered easy yet again.

i’d love to see new dungeons. it’s a pity we haven’t gotten any new dungeons that include a story mode, 3 explorable modes and armor and weapon sets added to the game along with a pvp track for said dungeon. multiple dungeons would have been even better.
they keep talking about how much content is going to be jam packed into this new x-pac. i hope that isn’t hyperbole and is actually the case. to get our first really substantial content dump in almost three years, i(and i think rightfully)have extremely high expectations. Prophecies, Factions, Nightfall, Eye of the North, and GW2 are all awesome. Hopefully it’s a wonderful addition to the game.
I will say it has been odd to see so many key employees leave during the busy time of development though. I am never shocked to see devs head for different things after something like this gets released, but this has been an odd development cycle for sure.

after almost 3 years there is nothing more to master, this is why new dungeons would be new challenges; in 3 year period you would master any game
try searching for the amount of complaints after AC revamp
or try going arah with pugs, with competent organised ppl you can do them fast but its becaus you learned them, now take a new player and put him in arah
dungeons arent easy, they are being mastered for a long time by many ppl; and if not professionals doing hard work with math pugs would never know that content can be played in zerks

You obviously haven’t done Living Story Season 2 and it’s achievements. Some of the more enjoyable and challenging things I’ve done in gw2 for some time. You’re missing out if challenge is what you seek.
While I don’t usually agree (or even bother to look) with QQ posts before we get the whole picture, the “no dungeons” info does not look good. The current PvE “end game” (and I should not call it that because it’s not even close to being end game) is all about the dungeons/fracts. They said about challenging content and stuff, but I really doubt they will release so much open world content to “replace” dungeons.
In the end of the day, when we will finish with HoT stuff, I’m afraid we’ll be back grinding the same old dungs/fracts…

i’m just sad that we will not see skilled, elite pver’s doing phenomenal play based on skill in new dungeons anymore, in the future. :’(

Except he’s trying to leverage something that might not even exist at all.
More to the point, posts like that are a dime a dozen, and most devs have learned to ignore threats like that long ago.
They’re usually empty, and the company probably has a good projection of the sales effects of this subject.
Although it could have been expressed differently the OP’s post is one of the best forms of feedback a company can get from a paying customer:
