One of the bigger changes regarding Mastery is the acquisition of skill points. From what I have read, Skill Points will move from the current system (where you gain one for every level after level 80) to a new system where the supply of Skill Points is set in stone – only obtainable as predetermined rewards, at skill point challenges, and a few at a time at particular levels before 80. This supply will be updated from time to time with the introduction of new challenges, but the number available will now effectively be capped.

The immediate effect is that you have less to spend on skills and traits. This isn’t too big of a concern for long-time players, who probably have everything they want already unlocked. It might make new players pick and choose, but there should be enough points to go around for these purposes.

The problem I am worried about is, what happens in regards to skins only available through the Mystic Forge? Each one of these costs a minimum of 50 skill points thanks to Miyani’s Eldritch Scroll; each Legendary costs 250 SP because of the Bloodstone Shard, and The Anomaly tips the scale at 300 for both. Are there going to be enough skill points to go around? Will we still get free Scrolls of Knowledge from champ bags?

More of a concern to most players is a lack of Skill Points to get Crystals and Philosopher Stones. This will impact the availability of mid-range crafting materials and hit a lot of players who rely on selling upgraded materials in the pocketbook.

What’s going to happen here?

What I gathered from the post was that skill points will be added as rewards, not just the current challenges or places of power. For instance, if they are added outside of the new regions, you might get a skill point on a 5/5 breach or a vinewrath kill

A skill point scroll in a chest is still relevant. It sounds like they are just removing them from leveling up. They are adding them to specific content and I can’t see them leaving chests as drops etc.

Keep also in mind that at the moment, nothing leads to believe that you stop getting skill points from doing WvW…

What we know so far is that Masteries will progress only in PvE.

Scrolls will probably also remain. Not to mention WvW leveling will probably still be there as well, since you cant level masteries there

If they move to dynamic event rewards, that would be pretty close to what we have already with champ bags and scrolls. That would be a good-enough alternative, but I figured they would award only a few per story chapter.

You also still have the skill point scrolls from champ chests. The article said nothing about removing those.
