Rev Staff - Please let it be high DPS!
Thanks for the information.
Anyways, staff went to ranger, so neither war nor thief is getting it.
Again, that is speculation. Anet has never confirmed that two elite specializations can not get the same weapon. Although I do think it is unlikely that the thief and warrior will get a staff with this expansion.
Given that Ventari was a peace loving centaur, I don’t see staff as being high in dps.
The faster a conflict is resolved, the sooner peacefulness can resume.
What’s more peaceful than an adversary incapacitated by a friendly whack up side the head with a big stick? :-D

I have a feeling thief will either get Mace or Rifle and warrior Pistol.

Considering Ventari wouldn’t life a finger to even save his own home/life in Prophecies, I’m actually surprised that we can fight at all while in his stance.

Perhaps that is built in. Maybe the entire time we channel him he complains and objects to our killing and using his power in battle. Similar to how Mallyx doesn’t like us using his power based on his dialog. The legends don’t seem to have a direct choice in whether we use their power or not.
Spear is most likely underwater option and nothing related to Glint at all.

They do have some choice. Like Mallyx powers hurting us a bit but not much. Torment Mallyx by abusing his powers. Oh the irony

This but they can punish the revenant like Mallyx does by putting conditions on the revenant. Though i doubt Ventari would to that even if he dislikes being used for not peaceful things…

This is my thoughts exactly. Ventari won’t like it and could hurt us (like Mallyx), however won’t because he is a pacifist. So, he can’t stop us from using his power, and he won’t hurt us because of his ideals. Seems Ventari is in a bit of a bind

His peace preaching, which without much doubt will happen, could be more annoying though…

AGAIN I just want STAFF to be the Zerk choice of weapon NOT all weapons.
And again, by what we’ve heard so far, you won’t be getting what you want.

Or maybe we can thwack ‘em with the stick and do 0 dmg. Wouldn’t that be a kick in the pants.
Ironically it was just now mentioned in the livestream that the Revenant’s staff was a DPS weapon at one point in development.

revenant’s staff is support
while channeling Ventari. The weapon doesn’t suddenly become unavailable when switching to something else.

Except that weapon skills are independent of legend.

I feel like Mace+Shield will be a better supporter with Ventari + ??? (they said something else goes great with Ventari, so it’s best to wait and see here. But maybe Jalis).
Edit: For small scale pvp*** let me add that. Poison on AA, triple blast finisher, shield is supporty. Allows for something along the lines of Settlers for supporting, sounds good to me.

It’s their entire point though. They are a reverse-elementalist (i.e. instead of switching weapon skills in combat, they switch healing/utility/elite skills in combat).

Since it’s based around support, the odds are it won’t be high DPS. That would make it quite OP.
Yup. There is another weapon set more focused around ‘High" DPS, but can’t talk about that yet.

Too obvious. Anet needs to stand out in the crowd. MH torch OH sheild. They both have thematically identical tool tips attack speed and attack type as sword/sword. But the skins! It’s so different and new!

Please let melee staff be the “High” DPS weapon…
Its my dream to use a Martial Staff in GW2, but I only play Zerk (B.c I love that style, I play DPS in WoW, I max out DPS in all RPGs, I hate support rolls).
Aww, joke’s on you. Staff isn’t DPS and is super supporty. Even worse is they said it used to be the DPS weapon. Sorry about that. Don’t be too discouraged though, you’ll probably love the sword and Shiro, but you’ll have to wait a long time to see it… so that sucks.

Ok tyvm for.
FYI Im so keen on staff is B.c Ive been doing martial arts staff/bo for 15 years, in and out of tournaments, kata/Fighting, ive been in Martial Arts sense 1994, out of the 20+ weapons Ive learned and practice over the past 20yrs Bo is by far my favorite.

I hope you realize by saying that you’ve condemened it to disuse in any serious PvE content.
I think we’ve been through this for the past 2.5 years, but you guys don’t seem to understand why nobody stacks healing power in PvE and even with those traits they still won’t.
A damage output loss of that magnitude only increases fight duration that much more, which means more damage output from the boss that far exceeds what little benefit you gained in healing power by sacrificing DPS.
I mean, have you learned nothing from guardian staff and mesmer staff in PvE? Nobody uses them for a reason.

Pve isn’t the only game type. new class needs to be fully balanced within all three formats. Your examples need some work as well. Plenty of players use guardian staff in pve and while it’s true that few use Mesmer staff for anything, that’s because it’s bad for everything, not because it’s full support.

Ok, let me correct. No good guardian that isn’t asking to be kicked from a speed run uses staff in PvE because an elementalist or warrior can already might stack for the group without messing up their damage output. Bad guardians use staff in PvE.
And if your idea for balancing across game formats is making a bunch of weapons which are useless in one of the formats, the design needs reconsideration.
Um… He is saying Ventari+Staff will have a Place OTHER than PvE, and yes we do have 3 Formats and yes there will be some spec’s…. made for different formats.
Nothing is wrong with that lol.

They are revamping their entire enemy AI (for HoT), encounter design (as seen in the new maps), several combat mechanics (defiance bar, conditions), while they intend to make new profession builds a lot more focused and specialized on certain thematic roles and produce more challenging game content.
The current dungeon meta is meaningless to help us predict what will be the new content’s meta.

Completely false statement that’s needing correction.
The big thing with Revenants is the lack of weapon swap and we’re all speculating on things we don’t full know yet. Just based off of what I’ve seen so far, Revenants are going to play many different roles but Ventari is going to be their healing support with minor CC.
I’m not exactly sure why people want strange weapon combinations to be the DPS setup and it’s safe to say that sword/x will be it.
