With all the information being released by Colin and MO, it appears that Revenants are going to be a bit too overpowered. Now you’re probably asking why I would make this claim before the expansion is even in Open Beta. What it comes down to is versatility.

Revenants are going to be able to use their based Weapon skills, and channel spirits that change their Heal, Utility, and Elite skills. With this idea, there’s concerns that they have more playability than any other class. If you can Weapon Swap, that allows you to have a nice variety of skills to use strategically. But if you can “Utility Bar Swap” in combat, that might give too much benefits for smart players in SPvP. Couple that with the speculation that you can select different Legend spirits to channel, and assuming each has it’s own strategic play style, and you’ve just inserted Ursan-mode v1.0 from GW1.

I hope the SPvP Devs keep this in mind when they have their brainstorming meetings. I’m going to LOVE trying out this new class, but I hope there’s some balance as I don’t get ROLFstomp’d in matches.

How can you… it’s not even out in beta… but… Yeah you said it yourself.

OT: The elementalist has 4*5 + 5 skills right ? If this revenant can change the utilities, heal and elite, that makes it 2*5 for weaponswap, 4 skills (-1 for the channel skill itself ? we don’t even know how it functions! ) and a new set of 5. That makes 19. The elementalist is not OP because he has 25, so why would the revenant be with 19 ? And all this aside we haven’t even seen him…

My information is based on interviews from the mouths of the great Colin and Mike O’Brien. They state that the Heal, Utility, and Elite skills will change with channeling of your selected Legend spirit. That’s much different than an Ele changing between Earth, Fire, Wind, Water, and Heart. Pro SPvPers will be able to adjust their in-combat battle tactics more quickly than other classes.

Think about it. One Legend could be good for anti-Melee, and another could be good for anti-Ranged. The possible versatility of this class will be miles ahead of anything we’ve ever seen. That’s why I’m hoping there’s time to consider all possibilities before Open Beta comes around. A faster Beta balancing = faster HoT release.

More than likely that the summoning of legends would be an Elite Skill where you can only choose one of them.

http://sirvincentiii.com ~ In the beginning…there was Tarnished Coast…
Full set of 5 unique skills for both dual-wield weapon sets: P/P and D/D – Make it happen
PvE – DD/CS/AC – If that didn’t work, roll a Reaper or Revenant.

Rangers are OP. They have ranged knockbacks, and hit you with 11k crits before you can even get close. But that’s for another topic.

The point that many people are missing is that I’d like Anet Devs to consider the SPvP elements, in addition to the new PvE elements now. By doing so, it’ll mean far less refinement by Open Beta, and that means we get our expansion quicker than, say, Summer 2015.

Even with a blog post with the details on their weapons and utilities, you still will not be able to make a claim on whether or not they’re overpowered or underpowered. Until you compare them to what’s in the game now; best by actually playing with them and playing against them; making a claim on their power is really dumb.

Herein lies the difference between players who PvE, and experienced PvP players who use strategy and tactics in battle. The power is in the mechanics, not how much damage their skills can do. When you have one class that’s able to switch freely between different Utility and Elite skillsets, it’s “OP” in the hands of smart players.

Technically, the idea of Revenants’ mechanics itself is overpowered. That’s not to say I’m not going to play it. I’m openly making sure the Devs hear my viewpoints in advance, so we can get our expansion as soon as possible.

Haha, are you joking? So you mean to tell me that even if the skills they get from channeling legends were subpar compared to other professions because of their ease of switching, they’d still be overpowered because the mechanic by which they gain access to their skills is just unfair.

Okay then, Ranger is overpowered because they have 2 bodies. Doesn’t matter how much damage or healing they do, that mechanic idea in of itself is overpowered. Nerf it.

Warrior is overpowered because they have heavy armor and the most health. Doesn’t matter if they don’t have many active survival skills, that’s too much passive survivability. I don’t care what the counter balance is, it’s overpowered. Nerf it.

Necromancers have 2 health pools! That mechanic is overpowered, nerf it.

Elementalists have TWICE as many weapon skills as anyone else! That mechanic is overpowered! Nerf it!

Engineers get 4 extra utility skills! Overpowered mechanic! Nerf it!

Guardians get permanent passive buffs! Overpowered, Nerf it!

Thieves don’t have weapon skill cooldowns! Overpowered! Nerf it!

Mesmers have clones! Nerf it!

Revenants have extra utilities! Nerf it!

That’s a silly notion. The numbers matter.

I lean towards the thinking that a skill without power behind it isn’t helped by any mechanic, and if that- as utility skills- is the case for the Revanant than you’re just blowing hot air.

Save it till you actually see numbers and what boons/conditions the different swaps actually provide. For all you know they may not even give one stack of might so you won’t have to worry about a Rev directly powering up its- hypothetically- subpar damage.

Ele’s have more skills than Revs will (unless Revs can swap between 5+ legends), you build them with a glyph build and they pretty much have 32 different ones too since Glyphs do something different depending on what you’re attuned to. Yet, according to you, what you really think is OP is ranger so why are you QQing about a class with just an off hand remark about its mechanics if you don’t care about Eles?

OP says Revenants are OP that means Elementalists are also OP, simply by the fact that utility skills have traditionally longer cooldowns than weapon skills so Elementalist will not only have more skills than the Revenant most likely (using the math provided by Minae Iss above) but they will also have overall higher APM because weapon skill cooldowns tend to be the shorter of the two sides of the skill bar.

Yes they are op and I hope Rev is. But like ele and engi you actually need skill to be good at them. I hope the Rev does require skill and has a high pay off for using skill. I hope it’s much stronger then warrior just sitting there using its auto attack and 100b. If this class has many skills that need used together with skill to make it op so be it. It’s a good thing.

Could is the key word. Try focusing on the concept and base your judgment on that, we literally have nothing but that to work with. Assuming that it will be OP cause you imagine there could be too many good skills or what have you doesnt really reflect anything about the actual class. But if you can “Utility Bar Swap” in combat, that might give too much benefits for smart players in SPvP.

I would speculate that the utility bar abilities while channelling will have a shared cooldown with the base abilities, or at the very least with other channelling versions of those abilities. So you can’t heal, channel legend 1, heal, channel legend 2, heal, for example (assuming it is possible to channel more than one legendary at a time), instead you could use heal (20 second cooldown) channel to legend 1, wait until the 20 second cooldown is up, then heal (15 second cooldown), channel legend 2 or drop back to base revenant and, have to wait until the 15 second cooldown is up before you can use your heal. So you would have a cooldown on your ability and that cooldown would also lockout any other ability in that slot for that time, regardless of channelling.

That would seem to be OK to me. That or the channelled versions will have to be weak as hell.

I hope the SPvP Devs keep this in mind when they have their brainstorming meetings. I’m going to LOVE trying out this new class, but I hope there’s some balance as I don’t get ROLFstomp’d in matches.

For those who are Super Smash Bros fans, I bet you guys remember how incredibly overpowered Megaman looked in the Smash Bros 4 announcement trailer. But now that SSB4 has been out for a while, can anyone honestly say Megaman is overpowered? No, I don’t think so.

How about the trailers for Guild Wars 2 before it came out, where chars were killing 5 or 6 mobs with one AOE or Jotun with one spell. Granted a fully traited level 80 can do that in the starter zone, but it’s not quite the same.
