Just to get back on topic; I think the special announcement is the rebuilding of Lion’s Arch and the player involvement in voting for names, etc. Not much content wise, but the WvW changes are simply changes to mechanics and not special per se.

LA was destroyed and has been in ruins for a long time, then it’s special – at least in Anet’s heads – to kick off a rebuilding event, whether it’s something we will be more involved in than just seeing our surroundings change.

Where did they promise a special announcement? Not doubting it but I missed that. Was it on Points of Interest?

They didn’t.
People are just hyping up and putting words in ArenaNets mouth. As always.

Ah thanks, so “special” was just a massive abuse of quotation marks since they never used that word at all =\

How I see it is that they are disencouraging play styles where blobs capture the point and move on without defending it or upgrading it. It also means those poor dolyaks wont be so ignored either.

The proposed changes will achieve the opposite – no need to waste supp/gold upgrading, just blob the objective and leave to blob the next objective, the keeps/towers upgrade themselves.

Whereas in live, if you spend supp/gold upgrading, you’re more likely to want to defend it.

Apart from that isn’t really a major objective at the moment.

The winning play style is thus:

- Have 100% coverage all hours of the day.

- Blob around and capture points

- If you get beaten during prime time, don’t worry, the off peak blobs will just recapture everything and rack the points up.

People aren’t really defending much atm anyways.

i just can’t believe what i’m reading … how on earth does some people think roaming will be more important ?!!!
It’s the total opposite. Dolyak sninping and escorte will be 200% useless. What’s the point to escort dolyak when my keep will upgrad no matter what ? What’s the point to snipe the dolyak if the ennemy keep will upgrad no matter what ?

We’re asking to Anet to reduce the blob effect since lauch … every single of their update enhanced it ….
Stabagedon destroyed 15-20 group play
This update is destroying solo play

The only good point is gold free upgrad (should have been live for ages)
Everything else is increasing blob effect and casualing the game …

Suggested in other topics:
If you’re unable to deal with trolls, just make dolyak mandatory for upgrad but split the supply and the upgrad ( when the dolyak reach the keep, it provides supply AND the upgrad progress)

Tempest seems made careful not to make ele better in any way, since that would be bad

It does the job well :-)

If it takes 18 hours to upgrade a keep, I am sure people will run dolyaks desperately. Upgrade times are on ArenaNet’s hands, and if they intend it to be an important change, they’ll make it so that it’s not a simple “speed up”, but a requirement.

That’s patently untrue. At least on the servers I’ve played on. People don’t want to lose their hard-earned investments in upgrading a keep.

Sometimes though there aren’t enough numbers to both defend and attack, and choices have to be made based on the importance of what’s to be defended, what’s to be attacked, and location of troops at the time a decision has to be made.

The article said it would take 20-40 minutes to upgrade. That tells us that if no dolyaks make it at all, it will upgrade after 40 minutes. If every dolyak makes it then it will upgrade in 20 minutes.

It’s better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.

That was for towers. Also, they’re giving a rough idea, not that such duration is final.

I’m not sure, but I also think they were referring to first tier. Regardless, further tiers will take more time than first tier.

Yeah, that’s my understanding by now. It looks pretty clear where they’re heading, they might have to tweak WvW more to allow for old blob vs. blob gameplay, but should keep evolving further into more strategic play.

I think this also helps server matchups where server population is low compared to others; this way the few that are online don’t have to work as hard to upgrade compared to high server populations.

Really, though, I think the real benefit here is stopping trolls from burning up your supply on rams and screwing your upgrades.

I find it funny that the people call the pvp community toxic, when they are complaining about features for a game mode they don’t enjoy getting an announcement.
It’s something you don’t play, great.
If you dont like it. Wait until next week. This game has more than just zerging trash mobs and champions in pve.
No need to be rude to the dev team for trying to cater to everyone that plays there game.

Time my friend.
It takes 5 minutes longer to upgrade if you kill a Dolyak.
Also you probably don’t want every enemy structure to be upgraded fully.
Maybe roaming won’t be more important but it still has it uses.

“abandoned game”? 0.o

I’m pretty sure spending hundreds of man hours in development isn’t abandoning it… unless it’s abandoned by you, in which case…bye?

I enjoyed seeing the Dragon Hunter in action, but to each their own.

It’s nice that people from your own side cannot delay upgrades anymore, either on accident or purpose.

However. Roaming and sniping dollies previously could completely freeze an objective from upgrading. Now it will only delay. And those extra 5min are only worth it if you can make a play happen in that borrowed time.
If you’re outnumbered anyway a good tactic was to snipe dollies and prevent keeps from upgrading till such a time that a proper offense could be mounted. Now however there is less point to this.

The defender can completely abandon a keep, neglect dollies and camps, and still get their fully upgraded keep eventually.
Especially in uneven matchups it just got easier and cheaper for the nightcapping server to get fully upgraded borderlands.

I am also curious how this is going to work with sieges. Would be awefully annoying if a keep randomly upgrades, repairs all walls and gates. This was a thing that could happen previously, but previously you could also halt upgrades and in certain situations even drain the objectives supply.
So it seems like itll be easier for dominant servers in a match to dominate even harder, easier and cheaper.

The removal of defense and killer is just funny to be honest. The exact reasons why people objected against these upgrades when they were first introduced are now used by anet as the reasons why they are going to remove these buffs.
