Breaks my heart T_T
Now talking it for serious, even while it is just speculation, I would like to bring some points in why I think that warhorn for elementalist specialization is a bad choice and I actually think it doesn’t even fit elementalist theme.
- Warhorn only fits with air element, (Blow water out of the horn? )
- Warhorn is not a attuneable weapon (Lore-wise) for elements.
- Warhorn only fit magic theme if used as channeling, but elementalist actually USE the elements instead of channeling magi.
- Warhorn Only fits ranged style/boon giving – Elementalist lacks on melee, another ranged don’t improve anything on elementalist playstyle.
- Warhorn have only ugly skins, and boring playstyle
- Warhorn Off Hand leaves us with still less MainHand Weapons (Elementalist already lack in MH weapons) – *Even altough I still don’t care with even if is MainHand.
- WoodenPotatoes also dont want warhorn
Now, if we look back at our shiny mainHand Sword as we were speculating before:
- Gives acess to Melee-style combat
- Swords are greatly themed with Mage style elementalist
- We have soooo many elementalist themed sword skins, that makes me hyped only to imagine (Even the legendary is pure elementalist).
- Grants more possiblity of mechanics than warhorn does.
- Sword is love, elementalist sword is pure Love.
Please Devs, don’t break our hearts, let the elementalist gets a Mh Sword :’(

I know the data mined stuff has a lot of people in a tizzy but don’t freak out. Sword mage is popular and is bound to get added -eventually-. If yall do get warhorn right now I’m sure it’ll turn out great. Just look at chronomancers shield.
Personally I play a guardian and got longbow. I’m not the biggest fan BUT we still got some other cool stuff with it that I like and I’m sure elementalist will too

Thanks for the kind word Silhoutte, I know I will end up accepting if it really becomes warhorn. But I also don’t have doubt that I will be crazy sad for a long time, since I really want to use bolt on my elementlist (Heck, I’ve been even farming mats to bolt the last months).
I just think that ele lacks so much in variety of weapons, that give to it (Just to it that have only 4 weapons avaiable atm) the most sad and boring weapon is like a slap on face :| .
Well, still crossing fingers to it not be warhorn .
Agree. Sword fits this class much more than warhorn.

I don’t actually think that much ppl see mesmer as sword mage tbh, mesmers are illusionists. But I got your point. Still, elementalist is the real mage within gw universe, or the most close to it.

The main thing is that most people want their elite spec to be “cool”. Especially in aesthetic terms. Elementalist mains place a huge amount of aesthetic attention into images of things like double dagger elementalists, to the point where many aren’t aware that dagger/focus will actually outdo it this patch. Likewise the want sword as an Ele weapon due to its aesthetics, and animations. So many people think warhorn is an ugly weapon. I’m multiclass, so it doesn’t bother me in the slightest, I think every type of weapon has ugly skins and beautiful skins, people will adapt.
(also I have howler so my bias is showing a bit, but still, there are plenty of WONDERFUL warhorn skins out there. Just look at any of the black lion skins added to the game over the past 3 years).

It is not just the “look cool” part, people want something to change the elementalist, allow it to be a more bursty spec with survivability mechanics that don’t just rely on pumping defense and keeping a high protection uptime…
We need good mobility options and no, just RTL and using our elite as a glorified running shoe is not the way.
Sword could provide just that, a high mobility alternative that could make the class fun and versatile…. a warhorn however just puts us more in the side stage of the game as again a stationary class… and it will probably come with a ton of channeling skills….
Lastly, I honestly have 0 hope that if we get the warhorn it will come with cool stuff like Chronomancer….

If they are really going to give us warhorn as our new weapon why not just give us focus main hand instead? My dream of a focus/focus character would be complete!
Warhorn actually does fit the elite spec.
You are calling upon the elements to create a viscous storm of fire, water, earth, and air….Shaman style!
If ele will get warhorn, then war will get scepter and thief hammer.
What? Ele is getting warhorn?! Yes!!!
I made a post about the combo over a year ago. The primary inspiration for the idea is the storm caller war horn that was used to put Ascalon fire out. If can be used to call storms in general and the use of it isn’t necessarily focusing magic through the horn but instead as a tool amplify the users elemental power to call things from far distances such as storms.
Look up my post. I thought it was a cool idea. Summoning fog banks, thunder storms and even vibrations to up heave the earth.

Not a big fan of Warhorns as a weapon. If that is indeed what Ele is getting, yet another nail in HoT’s coffin for me.

If anything, you should have to use your utility skills for at least part of that list.
Sword mage already exists it’s called mesmer
by your logic , they should not have created Reaper, since GS mage already exist, it’s called Mesmer as well….

I think everyone who wants sword just wants a battle mage. While I don’t really have a distinct preference, I like seeing something original much more seeing the old battle mage who enchants his own sword.
- Warhorn only fits with air element, (Blow water out of the horn? )
Something about this almost made me laugh to death XD.

I don’t think adding the argument of “woodenpotatoes doesn’t like it” makes a lot of sense. He’s just one player and people really over value his opinion. if you said quite a few more people in both pve and pvp didn’t want warhorn then you could say it but one person? no. In addition, your argument that sword give access to more melee styled combat is somewhat flawed we already have two melee conjures and d/f d/d that’s technically 4 melee styles. In addition warhorn can be melee, look at necro.
I will say this though I’m incredibly biased cuz I have howler and I want to use it on my main so anet pls make warhon really good on ele.

I don’t actually think that much ppl see mesmer as sword mage tbh, mesmers are illusionists. But I got your point. Still, elementalist is the real mage within gw universe, or the most close to it.
Depends on how you define ‘mage’. Elementalist is the mage focusing on the elemental side, while mesmer focuses more on the arcane side (even if it’s the elementalist that actually has that as a specialisation).
This isn’t to say that the elementalist can’t have a swordmage spec as well, but I would count both under the label of ‘mage’.
We need good mobility options and no, just RTL and using our elite as a glorified running shoe is not the way.
Sword could provide just that, a high mobility alternative that could make the class fun and versatile…. a warhorn however just puts us more in the side stage of the game as again a stationary class… and it will probably come with a ton of channeling skills…
I actually have the impression that the ele is one of the most mobile professions after the thief. You’ve got Signet of Air, Mist Form, and Lightning Flash as mobility utilities. A dagger/dagger ele has four skills that grant accelerated ability to be somewhere else (Magnetic Grasp, Burning Speed, Ride the Lightning, and Updraft), and depending on build elementalists can have generous availability of Swiftness. And then there’s what you can get out of conjured weapons…
I haven’t done a detailed analysis, but my gut feeling is that mobility is not a problem for elementalists unless you choose to allow it to be, and this is reinforced in PvP (if I’m not being snared, the professions that I find I’m least able to chase down or escape from are thief and ele). Even if it was, too, warhorn grants swiftness on every profession that has it, so if we can draw any conclusion from what warhorn has been used for in the past it’s likely to add to rather than subtract from mobility.
(Personally, I’m neutral on it – I’ll make a call on whether I like it or not when it’s revealed.)

Oooooh nice, let’s hope it is true! I did some speculation about Ele getting Warhorn some months ago! :P
Oh, I would love to have a Warhorn and I ll tell you why!
- The weapon fits the Tempest theme, call the winds and storms!
- Warhorn skills are mostly buffs and controls and I think tempest can be a control master! :P
- Warhorn is a discrete and pretty looking weapon! Not huge like sword, that won’t fit with dagger or focus that are mostly small.
- Warhorn can have longer range, I believe that a melee ele would be a disaster. The lowest health in game with light armor plus melee… no!!!
- Very few classes are using Warhorn, it is nice to see this weapon have some use.
- I would prefer to get a main hand weapon but off hand might be more fair for ele that has so many skills.
I even had a few ideas for Warhorn skills that can fit the Tempest theme!
Fire:
Fire trap: Teleport (similar to the Flashing Light) summoning a fire tornado at your previews spot. The tornado leak flames and burns foes close to it.
Fire head: Buff your self with quickness and swiftness. This skill could be also a finisher.
Water:
Acid Rain: Summon a water storm that makes enemies vulnerable and weak while healing allies.
Ice cube: Freeze (paralyze) your enemy for 1-2 seconds. (similar to Deep Freeze)
Air:
Electric Skin: (buff) Damage, weaken and blind foes that are attacking you.
Compressed Air: Through a wave of air around you damaging and dazing foes (similar to the Tequatle’s wave). This could be a finisher.
Earth:
Rough ground: Create a field that cripples and blinds foes, while giving stability to allies.
Tactical retreat: Leap backwards leaving 3 lines of earth spikes that knockdown and damage enemies.

An off-hand Warhorn would look a hell of a lot better than the two off-hands we currently have. 90% of Foci skins are laughably bad, and characters repeatedly stab themselves in the femoral artery with OH daggers (except, oddly, for Charr).
With a name like Tempest, Warhorn also sounds like a pretty good fit, and Warhorns do need to appear on more classes.
That said, I was hoping for sword and would prefer sword.
Since wooden shill doesn’t like warhorn for elementalist, I want this to become real. Blowing off people with air attunement or making a bong with water sounds perfect for this profession.

I can see that warhorn have it’s goodies too, but seriously, mark my words:
IT WILL BE FORGOT, and not used. Just like other warhorn uses into this game. The maximum acceptable mechanic for warhorn is boon sharing or condition aplying, and this is really boring. Another offhand? bleh.
And on a personal note, YES, i want the sword to fit exatly the esteriotype of sword mage, and I have no doubts that there’s way more ppl interested on it than the other side. Isn’t this game all about the fluff’s in the end either way?

Man I was so excited for HoT, but getting warhorn would just kill any anticipation I had for the expansion after seeing the sword datamine. Warhorn is so lame compared to ANY of the other weapons in the game. Cmon Anet…. I really really hope that is just a gemstore skin or something. If Anet doesn’t announce anything about instanced or “high level group PvE” and announces that the ele will get warhorn, I might not get the expansion at all then.

ahahahah really? Just a weapon of a specialization will destroy your hole anticipation for HoT and you wont even get the expansion?! Better don’t buy it anyways less winners for us
Omg the drama!
You KNOW at some point there will be an elite spec that gives Elementalists access to the warhorn. Now is no better or worse than later. Now may even be slightly better than later when they have more room to maneuver to deal with a conceptually tricky tool. And right now they are very interested in promoting Support specs, and warhorn is much more Support than DPS in most existing examples.

Ele has enough support, in fact it’s being “rebalanced” because it gives too much support.

If there’s anything people should know by now is to not instantly think a weapon can only do 1 type of thing especially when considering how varied they are in the game.
Mesmer has Greatswords that shoot lasers. Revenant has a ranged Hammer. Ranger Throws axes. Necro has Offensive Warhorn skills.
Just cause the skills are tied to a certain weapon doesn’t mean they will behave a certain way. For all we know they get a warhorn and skill 5 on every attunement summons a crazy storm like skills. (fire storms, dust storms etc) and overall isn’t supportive at all. The only logical complaint is that people don’t like warhorn aesthetically, at least when compared to other weapons. Other than that, It doesn’t matter.
On a side note. Wouldn’t it be hilarious if Ele got a sword, but its off-hand instead? I can already see the rage lol.
(edited by FalconBeta.9185)
Dagger mainhand with sword offhand? That would be quite… unconventional.

Actually, I would be far more interested in a Offhand sword
Can you imagine? Wield scepter on main with sword on off? Meteolorgicus + bolt! Now this is a true tempest.
I didn’t realize warhorn was possibly a thing until I saw this thread. My only concern would be aesthetic. Warhorns have very little variation in shape in this game. The only one that looks nicely horn-like imo is the Aetherized one which of course is no longer available by any sane means. I’d have gotten it long ago except I don’t bother to buy warhorns since my alts never use them.
Most warhorns are huge bulky things with clunky designs to differentiate one wide-flared curved cone from another.
Don’t a lot of eles consider focus to be one of their best weapons? Doesn’t seem like warhorn could beat focus easily. A main hand weapon seems like it would give you more options.

I dunno, warhorn could be fun. XD I’m imagining your character blowing into it and just a jet of fire flying out. The thing about ele is, you have lots of creative ways you can use any given item, since its really just being using as a focus for your magic.

You have no idea what the warhorn is capable of doing. Sure in other classes the warhorn was mostly buff focused, but they could use it in ways so interesting that you’d have no idea. Don’t forget about your dreams of grad school just because you think you might fail an intro class, just like don’t spout about whata sword or warhorn could bring when its literally a moot point until they reveal what the elite spec weapon actually is and what actually will do.
Your speculation is giving you much unneeded anxiety, so I wish the devs would show use details about this like next week.

Very much this.
Now, if we assume that the Warhorn was aimed at the Elementalist spec, Tempest doesn’t sound like a buffing spec. It’s more likely to be a crowd control or storm-summoning Warhorn.
I think most of us can agree that eles getting warhorn blows.
Among your laundry list of things Ele needs, I honestly don’t think they should all fall under 1 umbrella. So a weapon that provides burst, good active defenses and mobility? Why not just pigeonhole the entire profession into that one elite spec and just delete the other specs?
If anything, you should have to use your utility skills for at least part of that list.
Ok, to better phrase my sentence. I want those options in the specialization. Not everything needs to come from weapon skills, but some should be on weapon skills and the others on utilities – and maybe then we will have something to contest cantrips spot as the only good skills and not just gimmick or bad.
And on the pigeonhole part, do you run on your elementalist anything else besides cantrips or the now nerfed signets?
Glyphs are a freaking joke and ANET couldn’t care less about them – the elite has some minor uses, but, much as Ele’s other elites, it is mediocre at best.
Arcane have small uses for a very bursty spec. And Conjures are still pop-hit one skill-discard – unless you count Nike’s Fiery Running Shoes which sees a bit more skill uses…. seriously, when your Greatsword made of fire that comes crashing down from the skies is best used as a running gadget something is very wrong.
I haven’t done a detailed analysis, but my gut feeling is that mobility is not a problem for elementalists unless you choose to allow it to be, and this is reinforced in PvP (if I’m not being snared, the professions that I find I’m least able to chase down or escape from are thief and ele). Swiftness is hardly a problem for elementalists, we have it in abudance. When I said mobility I meant to say repositioning in combat. Elementalists can move, specially if you consider our Fiery Shoes, but they have very limited options for repositioning in combat.

I concur with you, we have no idea what will come from it, but unless they go absolutely crazy creative, it is reasonable to expect that the warhorn would revolve around calling storms / summoning things – i.e., what we already have (e.g,. Glyph, Frost Bow 4, Lightning Hammer 4, FGS 5).
But yes, I certainly hope that next week we get the elementalist reveal… this rumor has been growing with such intensity the last few days that it is like a wound that is festering, better cut that necrosed flesh out and be done with it rather than continuing to think that it will heal itself.

We do not, however, have this in off-hand form. We have heavy “storm” AoE in a glyph, a conjure, an elite, and a two-hand, but adding a mass AoE off-hand would interact interestingly with the dagger and scepter. Focus is largely defense/utility/cc, while OH dagger is a sort of jack-of-all-trades OH with some nice burst and mobility. Having a third option could be really nice.
That said, I’d love to see a more exciting main-hand as well. Having a true melee weapon with a chain skill would be much more fun than current MH options.

I’m thinking the elite spec weapons would all be either two-handers or off-handers. Off-hand scepter could actually be interesting. Unlikely however, since they are supposed to be -new- weapons for the class.
Out of two hand weapons only rifle and short bow are left unused, and I can’t see either of those on elementalist. That would leave axe, mace, pistol, sword, torch and warhorn.
Axe, mace and sword would be out as off-hand weapons I think. Pistol, torch and warhorn are all already used by either mesmer or necromancer, so there’s no great difference there – but pistol is a bit strange for magic class so I don’t expect to see it outside mesmer.
Warhorn and torch, either one could be made to work, but warhorn would be more ‘element-neutral’ where torch might be too strongly tied to fire alone. Also I think torch is likely to go for warrior – unless they get the short bow. Dagger off-hand just doesn’t feel impressive enough for melee elite weapon.. and warriors don’t have that many weapons they don’t already have access to (if you count out the mage weapons). Pistol would be another possibility, but I don’t see warrior basing an elite spec around it. Also again the warrior option should put some kind of twist to adrenaline mechanic – and I can see torch utilizing that in some rather interesting ways.

On second thought, short bow might actually be very interesting. Elemental archer. It could work well with different elements. Something like, arrows composed of, or imbued with whichever element was attuned at any given time.
Assuming all the elite specs put a twist to the class mechanics (F1 etc abilities), that would imply that elementalist’s element attunements would get some new or expanded functionality. That would be one way to fit the bill.
However, if elementalist elite spec is tempest, I can’t see short bow fitting the image. Warhorn seems a lot more likely.
Based on what’s already known:
Ranger – staff
Necromancer – greatsword
Mesmer – shield
Engineer – hammer
Guardian – longbow
I’d assume the rest of the classes to be:
Warrior – torch
Thief – rifle
Elementalist – warhorn
Revenant – short bow

If you take two-handed and dedicated off-hand weapons only, that’s 10 weapons – for 9 classes. Of course it’s not impossible for some class to deviate from that, and either get a main-hand elite, or use one of the weapons that could go to both hands.
But assuming it’s 2-h and off-hand only, there’s just only torch, rifle, warhorn, short bow and focus left.
The possibilities would be:
Warrior – torch, short bow
Thief – torch, rifle, warhorn, focus
Elementalist – warhorn, short bow, rifle, torch
Revenant – short bow, focus, warhorn, rifle, toch
I don’t expect ranged elite for warrior, and out of the two the torch would feel like better match with their adrenaline mechanic, so that would leave torch.
For thief I don’t think focus would fit. That would leave rifle and warhorn. Rifle seems to fit better, and also avoids the hassle of dual-skills that single hand weapon would bring, so I expect them to get rifle.
That would leave warhorn and short bow for elementalist. Elementalists get four times the skills per weapon due swapping elements, so off-hand is more likely than dual-hand weapon (still giving them 8 new skills). Also they get only one weapon set, so 2-h weapon would mean they can only use the elite weapon skills when it’s equiped. I know same argument applies to engineers, but I think they really wanted to give engi the hammer, and they get the toolkits which gives them more weapon options regardless. And finally warhorn fits better than short bow to image of ‘tempest’.
For revenant this would leave short bow and focus. Between those it’s really a toss up. I said short bow earlier, but thinking about revenant class and their unique mechanic, focus might actually be more likely.. not to mention there’s already one heavy armor hybrid magic class with a bow elite, so second one might be redundant. Also, the same argument applies as with elementalists – 2-h elite weapon would mean when equiped they can only use those skills, since they have only one weapon set. So I’d have to actually change my guess on revenant to focus. So:
But since this thread is about elementalist, my prediction would remain warhorn.
