This would be a fun feature in GW2 if done well! I really enjoy it in ESO right now but I think it would fit in GW2 as well, especially in cities, towns and outposts and maybe in the open as well, because there are a lot of travelling merchants and nobels in Tyria.

Can you imagine? Best feature ever. There is enough mindless killing and farming in GW2, and this feature would add a lot of depth to the game, it would become more of a world and more fun to play.

This would also add open world PvP to a degree as you can choose to become a criminal, a “guard” or just be neutral depending on your actions. The guards would chase down criminals, put them in jail and let them pay a fee depending on their crime(s). Then there could also be bounties and you can apply yourself as bounty hunter to get rewards for catching criminals.

What can you be?
Criminal
Guard
Bounty Hunter
Neutral

What do you think? Would GW2 become a better and more interesting game?

It wouldn’t fit. You are commander of the pact, trying to unite different spicies to be your cannon fodder and go in almost certain deaths. I can’t imagine a lot of people would follow the cuttroat and a thief.

Justice system doesn’t belong in GW2.

Why would you base the features of GW2 on the personal story? that’s stupid and will only limit the game. MMORPGS would be better without a linear story.

Its not only that there is a lot more but I tought you would be able to see it. Oh well.

How would you prevent certain players from killing the players in low areas?
How would you solve the difference between lower level players and downscaled ones?
What method would you use to balance the PvE gear since its quite different from PvP gear?
How would you consider food and stacking sigils?
What happens to player who just started with no traits if the run into someone with full traits?
What would determine what stuff gets pickpocketed?
How would soulbound/account-bound stuff and safe/invisible bags influnce this?

This is just PvP aspect of the system, there is so much more to consider.

As I said Justice System doesn’t belong here.

I don’t see any mindless killing in Guild Wars. Half the time we are defending settlements, saving individuals, fixing problems or fighting dragon minions who are bent on destroying everything. Every person is part of this effort, which is why in the open world people are able to rezz every player and most allied NPCs they come across.

If you want to see a system like this though I recommend giving Archeage a go. Whole system runs on trade, and there are entire guilds dedicated to being criminals to the point that some servers have more criminals then ‘guards’ (law abiding players) on their own faction. Why is this? Because it allows them to steal and kill both their own people as well as the enemy faction. Double the profit, and they can just pass off their gains to a guildy before having their character thrown in jail to serve out ‘justice’. It gets to the point entire city hubs are covered in gankers just for kittens and giggles.

If you are into that kinda stuff it really is hells playground. I wouldn’t want to see it here though. Interesting isn’t a word I’d use to describe the kind of community this type of gameplay brings.

No thanks. We are the hero of the pact and honestly open world PKing would drive me and a ton of other players away. Its not that we dont like PVP, we just want the two separate. Same reason i played GW1 instead of any other MMO at the time.

Whilst I applaud an original idea, it definitely doesn’t fit the world or story of open world GW. I can’t see it enhancing the game at all, especially if it had open world pvp.

Could this be adapted for the main pvp game? Possibly. I don’t pvp so I’m not best placed to answer that.

Karma system exists, guilds exists, friends exists. This make games less solo and players from PvP,PvE,crafting etc. become friends and work together as opposed to us bashing against each other. I’m assume you’re the lonely wolf that has nothing to offer to the pack . Plz tell me what make a successful mmorpg?

Why do people stay when there is a challenge? Even casuals move on as soon as they see a more beautiful game, they don’t make game last unless you’re top in fashion which BDO will soon be. You decide for me it’s challenge>graphics .

The idea is unique I admit. But I honestly do not see it fitting into Guild Wars 2. Not because of how the story line turns you into a commander. But because of the fact that it simply does not make sense. Half the NPCs are vendors. The other half give quests and if they do not do that, they fall into the category of NPCs where they are used to give additional lore information or even just a possible laugh or two “What savings!”. Honestly it fits ESO cause the game has had the feature for quite a while. I admit it is a fun feature, but I think certain things have their place in games and certain features have their homes and work better in certain games. Example being the brush feature in the playstation 2 game Okami. The Elder Scroll games were built from the ground up with multiple choices in mind whether you choice to be good or bad or somewhere in the middle. So the justice system works completely perfect for it. But in the end it is a feature that would not fit Guild Wars 2 simply cause of 1. The devs would most likely have to rework some of the code to make it happen. Which would take time. And 2. Not every player enjoys the justice system. I own several of the Elder Scroll games and just have no interest in playing them now a days. Everyone has different tastes and as interesting as it would be to pickpocket that last t6 mat from an npc I think I would rather upgrade a t5 through the mystic toilet or just hunt it down myself.

Gosh, you are so tough, aren´t you?

First of all, casual vs., hm, let´s call it good or real players (yeah, to your surprise possibly, I am not too fond of that whole casualization of the industry thing myself) has absolutely nothing to do with pvp vs. pve. Personally I think GW2 isn´t a great game because of the casual way they went, but again, pvp vs pve does not matter in this regard.

Then, I love free world, free corpseloot or whatever harsh pvp system there is. In fact, at the moment I am observing Crowfall as a possible “fantasy Eve” or hope Garriott will do a 180 on making pvp a matter of choice in his upcoming project

BUT: Gw2 is not the game for this. It was marketed as one thing, drew in a certain audience, no way should they turn the table on the open world pvp now. You, Mr. oh so tough because I play video games, are in no place to tell people they are in any way inferior to you because they like this kind of game here instead of the pvp game you want.

If anyone would have some justification to tell players off, it is them, telling you to leave, as you clearly walked into a game that was specifically marketed as being “not for you”.

In the open world, this is a terrible idea. All it does is invite… let’s say “negative elements” into the community at large. The philosophy of GW2 is that a player should be happy to see other players in the field, and pitting people directly against each other with the ability to punish them for playing this way is counterproductive.

However, as an isolated Activity, a sort of “cops and robbers”, “sneak-thief”, or “serial murderer” style game one can play, this concept is much more interesting. It would be important to distinguish it from other Activities, such as the Lunatic Court variant on “hide and seek”, and other stealth/RP-style games, such as (Garry’s Mod) Trouble in Terrorist Town. I believe that a similar game could be great fun with the proper Guild Wars 2 flavor.

The PvP will be forced when a player will have the ability to arrest a criminally accused players. How can the law enforcer convince the criminal to go to trial or jail?

The only place in the game that i can see something like this ever happen in GW2 is in the home instance in order to give it a bit more flavor, putting a similar system there will not break the game in any way.

This is how i see a system like that work.

The player will be able to track and arrest (quests in the home instance and the open world) NPC criminals.
The player will be able break in to houses and steal in the home instance.
The player will be able to join criminal faction (similar to the thieves guild or the dark brotherhood. quests in the home instance and the open world).
Quests and promotion will only be given in the home instance.
other then that no NPC will know about the player habits.
