Still Hyped for HoT?
Sadly no my hype scale was 9 its now 2 , im losing interest fast because the game is on auto pilot atm , i think they need to keep there players active not abandon ship till hot
I think they should show us the new Legendaries.
Staying quiet isn’t good, people would be way hyped if they had more info like release date and other specializations.
I have this feeling that the expansion is at least 9 months away still. There just isn’t the flow of information that i’d expect for a summer release. 9 months from now the game will be almost 4 years old with no expansion. Hard to get hyped for that… doubly so since they stopped putting out content.
If we do get a summer release then i’d be pretty excited, it just doesn’t seem feasible at this point.
It’s very hard to feel hype for HoT. Look at what ArenaNet says:
At first I thought your are too sarcastic. But then I read …
“Hey guys! Since you all like Silverwastes (and of course that’s because you love playing the same event over and over, not because it’s one of the most profitable things in the game), we will make the entire expansion like it! Be ready to grind the same thing over and over while fighting the same three of four enemy models!”
… and these are exactly my thoughts, too.
But I still hope that the new maps will be different and much better.

I have zero interest in what’s being offered thus far. If anything, I think a large portion of the upcoming changes are taking steps backwards, especially so in WvW.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/thief/ES-Suggestion-The-Deadeye-FORMAL/
Losing interest, really. Not to 0, but many things are reducing it:
1) Super slow and incomplete information coming in.
Many the posts on the forums are ‘what is happening to this or that’, some of which ANet has vaguely explained, just enough to cause fights about it. Biggest example: ANet knows (I believe) what will happen to skill points. Please spell it out nice and slowly for us.
2) Nothing happening in main game.
LA got some new art, and while I’m not discounting the effort that took, it doesn’t give me anything new to do.
3) No release date. No approximate release date.
It’s smart to not promise a date before you can hit it. I wish my own PM would grok that But.. this year? Next year? Some clue, please.
4) No idea what my character’s skill set will look like. No idea how to outfit my characters.
So much up in the air on this, because of 1). I have incomplete characters that can’t make armor/weapons cause I have no idea what I’ll want later. However long later is.
Honestly, the fact that they’ve had so little info is the reason why hype is going away. Games like Tera and Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn had huge stuff added and FFXIV is actually getting an expansion. Games like Splatoon are coming out very soon as well. Heroes of the Storm got in Open Beta and will release next month.
What do i know about Heart of Thorns? 3 specs, one of which people dislike, Lion’s Arch getting remade and some WvW changes, that’s kinda it.
Still looking forward to it. Was never wildly excited, but I have lots of games I play, so predictably my energy and enthusiasm are divided up across a couple titles. I see a number of mechanical changes coming that I think will increase my enjoyment… And I am a little hyped to take a Dragonhunter and blow up people who think that those skills are gonna be useless…
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

I can just see people, especially bad Thieves, just charge right into those traps.
Anet seems to have lost a lot of the hype from when they first announced it. I know it is true for me and I keep reading the same thing over and over again. It almost feels like after people had been begging for an expansion for years they just said ‘fine’ and said one was coming …. sometime …. with details to follow.
What I would have rather seen was them doing small things like the LA rebuilding and such and not saying anything about the x-pack. Do the first betas under NDAs. The first official announcement would include gobs of details and a release date a couple months in the future all at once. There would have been a marginal decrease in hype because everyone would be constantly getting one day closer to a concrete date.
edit: There are still things I am looking forward to. Most prominently guardians FINALLY getting a good ranged weapon and hopefully something good with guild halls.
And I am a little hyped to take a Dragonhunter and blow up people who think that those skills are gonna be useless…

I used to think its was the dumbest thing in the world in movies when people would jump up and down and shout “over here” before leading the bad guys away (or into ambushes). I mean seriously, could you make it any more obvious you’re the decoy?
Then I started watching people do it in real life. Especially in objective based PvP settings. And it WORKS. Ridiculously well, in fact. People lock onto and chase the thing that catches their eye the most.
Nobody ever lost money in the long run assuming the majority of their opponents are dumber than bricks. Especially in the heat of the moment. If you really are the laser-focused Lord Cool-&-Calculating believe me, I’ve got tools and plays for you too and look forward to a tougher fight.
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

Not at ALL hyped.
I want to be, I really do. I wish I could be. But my disillusionment with the corporate machine controlling ANet still leaves a very bad taste in my mouth.
I’ll probably just be hanging on to my money. There has to be another company out there that wants it more.
I was at first, now my hype has been totally smashed as they continued releasing information but at the cost of not adding nothing new to the live game. I mean events, and content that you actually play. There’s been none. It’s like “oh look, we’re doing an xpac that’s all about mechanics and laying the groundwork, etc, and because of that no new content for ya, sorry everyone is too busy”.

Sadder part is as you said “oh look, we’re doing an xpac that’s all about mechanics and laying the groundwork, etc”. This is 90% a big feature patch….it doesn’t even feel like an expansion..from what they’ve shown so far. It lacks the “meat”…it just offers you “fries” and tells you it has “meat” flavor in it. It’s like they are trying to sell a “ground-laying” feature patch as an expansion..which in reality it should have been just a regular patch that lead to a proper expansion.
They either have close to nothing when it comes to the expectations of an EXPANSION…or they have the worst marketing&communications team i’ve seen…..or both.
Right now i am not enticed to pay for it. If i do get it, i will only do that after 2-3 months pass and see what ppl say, reviewers say..watch some livestreams etc…because right now it lost not only the hype but the trust i had for it.

You know, yesterday my guildies and I had a heated debate on how ANet is developing the game. Since the feature packs and mostly the NPE, ArenaNet has been on a “rework train”. Everything major is all “we’re reworking because we felt it wasn’t OK”, “we’re re-evaluating this”, “we’re strengthening the core because of…”, “we’re laying the groundwork”, etc. I am honestly sorry, but there are too many reworks and too few actual CONTENT, the “meat” you’ve stated. We’ve even been looking for a new MMORPG because the game has been feeling too much stale content-wise, it seems they can’t offer traditional xpac, but at the same time can’t offer ongoing content like they once planned. The activity in my guild has decreased a lot due to how boring it became to repeat dungeons to death, and they haven’t even revealed a release date.
Oh, but they have given us something to do. We get to run around PvE doing hero challenges on all our alts so that the traits and skills the alts have already unlocked don’t get taken away. What could be more fulfilling than that?
Extremely hyped. The expansion announcement has made me a dedicated player ever since.
At first I was like, well, it’s about dang time, and then as more information became available, I was like, well, hell. So, in answer to the title question, no.
Yes, I’m still hyped.
Very underhyped right now.
Actually just done downloading ESO again.
Still hyped.
Anyone who isn’t simply isn’t looking forward to the expansion
Obviously we haven’t seen new content, but for me it doesn’t change the fact that there’s still an expansion with new features coming out, and I’m looking forward to playing it.

I’m planning to preorder HoT, mostly for the preorder goodies, if there are none, then I’ll get it when all my toons are 80 and caught up with the LS. Then and only then will I get it. If anything, ANet seem to add more to the digitl versions of there games as time go’s on. Just look at what you get with the Digital deluxe and normal editions of the game compared to what we got at launch.

Right now I am actually more hyped for the trait/skill system changes that are coming out BEFORE HoT. I hope they come out this summer.
Yeah, same.
In order of hype:
1. Core specialisations and trait changes (especially for mesmer)
2. Elite specialisations (especially chronomancer)
Other things are great, but these two things are by far the most exciting changes. If I was to pick 1 specific thing that I wish I could have right now, it would be baseline Illusionary Persona.
Yes, I am.

It’s pretty hard to get hyped up for Living Story Part 3
I’m not sure what to think anymore. As a guy who very actively supports GW2 thru the cash store…
I love GW2. I loved GW1. But to wait 3 years for a GW2 “expansion” that looks vastly smaller than GW1’s Eye of the North — well, “disappointed” is all I feel.
It’s not that what’s in HoT is bad — there just isn’t very much. A few new maps, a few new skills — interesting and maybe fun, but that’s not a real expansion.
I suspect what happened was a slow-down in sales, leading ANet to bundle a series of feature / living world updates into an “expansion.”
No, I’m not hyped. I want a real expansion like we got in GW1 with EotN.

We got EIGHTEEN dungeons with EoTN too… each one with unique mechanics and some of which were incredibly difficult that people still had trouble completing near the end of GW1 one (Slaver’s Exile anyone?). They kitten all over the stack + autoattack fest that GW2 dungeons are right now
I got really hyped up at the Reaper reveal and have been playing everyday since, after coming back from about a month and a half break and saying if the reaper reveal didn’t impress me, I was not going to play again until the xpac.
But even with that, I’m still having trouble staying fixated on my goal of getting twilight, if we had a release date I’d feel more motivated. Even if it was just an approximation, like fall or winter, or early next year. I figure we would’ve heard something by now, even an announcement of the announcement of a release date.
I’m actually slightly more hyped than I was to begin with. I’m going to wait for reviews on the content before I make judgements on it, but I’m pretty pleased with the elite spec reveals so far. I’m picking out some weapons “just in case” I do end up getting the xpac.

Because we can’t be angry about both?
My hype-high has wore off…
…now I’m like Robert Baratheon waiting for the joust to start.
(which I really shouldn’t link to)
Playing the engineer “as intended” is simply not viable.
Hype died a long time ago, now just waiting for ability to play it.
Because nothing new is happening in the live game…

game will not change for me i guess since i quit PVe a while ago all that clicky hurt my finger ( not joking)
so i play pvp only now, i still click but at least I click for fun not for opening 250 stacks of loot every hour to salvage them and click than again to make the mf increase. just thinking about it makes me not wanna play at all.
oh and since i only play pvp i will not buy the expansion anyway
I’m very excited for the expansion, but that in turn is gradually decreasing my desire to play the live game until it releases.
In my case, this could be risky, as I may get or feel disconnected from the game and loose all interest in the process.

You don’t want to play revenant or elite specs in pvp? :o
There’s been none. It’s like “oh look, we’re doing an xpac that’s all about mechanics and laying the groundwork, etc, and because of that no new content for ya, sorry everyone is too busy”.
Yes. I am not excited about things in HoT that are “laying the groundwork” for some other things that are coming sometime (maybe, if they are not being reworked before) in the future after HoT but not yet within HoT.
Yep. Rev and new specs and new areas. New weapons/armor and new(?) fractals. Curious about the story and where it’s going. Hoping for more big bosses like Teq/TT

You are hyped about features that are not part of the expansion pack. They will be implemented in an ordinary patch prior to the expansion.
I was very excited at the thought of Guild Halls and guild upgrades. But it’s been too long with no word about them. I don’t think they know what they’re doing for guilds yet. Specializations and trait changes are good — the NPE is so horrible that anything would be an improvement — and I’m looking forward to those.
I can’t say that I’m hyped anymore, but I’m still looking forward to the expansion.
Sorrows Furnace
I got to say the no new content has left a really bad taste In my mouth. Never has this game seen a content dry spell this massive. No Queens Pavilion, Festival of the Four winds, No WvW tourney like we saw between seasons 1 and 2. The announcement of the xpac has brought about what I always feared. A burn it and drop it content style MMO just like all the others.
Anet gave into all those people the demanded an expansion but were not actively playing the game and has turned its back on the players looking to stay engaged and build communities the last few months. The change in players activity is undeniable. The majority of the players now are players that just purchased the game.
It seems like Anet has lost the objective of making a quality product that keeps people engaged in the game and is now focused on features, monetization, and keeping thier log on and sales metrics looking good without putting in the effort to keep players engaged. When it was implied that developing content was to much work for not enough pay off I took this as a really bad sign.
They hype has gone down for me and it seems like many others. This expansion has gone from a pleasant bonus to something that is either going to meet players expectations and make this dry spell worth it or be a flop that can hurt the active base of the game. The longer it takes before anything new the higher people’s expectations are going to get.
For the first time in the 10 years I have been playing this franchise I am starting to wonder if I should start looking to another franchise to dedicate my time and effort building a community in. Currently half my guild logs in regularly if not daily, but its just for the log in reward or the 20 min of daily completion. There is nothing new to engage communities into something to accomplish together.
New and returning plays ask me how the end game doing in the game currently/whats new? I just kinda shrug and tell them the things that have been around and unchanged for years, and oh, you can also pay for living story episode 2. What happened to 1? You wont be able to experiance that entire year and a half of the game. Even alot of the people recruited the first sale got to 80, did a few dungeons, fractals, pvp and found the game has little to offer without regular updates and have stopped logging in.
I really hope Anet delivers. I hope that there are more maps they are letting on. More content to do together. Something more than what they currently showed us. All we can do is wait and see.

IThe announcement of the xpac has brought about what I always feared. A burn it and drop it content style MMO just like all the others.
And that, precisely, is why I’ve gone from “excited” to “pessimistic” in recent weeks.
Compared to GW1 expansions, compared to the “Living World” updates, this promised “expansion” is, so far, weak sauce. With Factions and Nightfall and Eotn, we got huge world expansions, new classes (note the plural) and stories (albeit weakish ones).
With HoT, we get character “fixes” that should be patches, a handful of new skills, no new weapons, and the notion that a new zone equals three real zones if stacked. No more exploration, just constant “action”; no real organized content, just a few group encounters. If they give us all the class fixes in a patch, this expansion is going to be very light.
Either ANet is really holding back on the announcements, or this is an over-hyped feature pack for money.
Aimed not at long-time loyalists and big cash store spenders, but impulse buyers who spend some quick and move on. I’m not their audience, apparently, after a decade of loyalty and a lot of financial support buying all their products and spending copiously in the cash store.

Don’t forget how epic War in Kryta, hearts of the north and Winds of change where. Once I’ve played a little of the open beta, and see what you get for pre order/digital deluxe. Only then will I get back on the hype train.

No, the specialization system is going to be implemented before HoT. Elite specs, like the Reaper, Chronomancer and Dragonhunter- those are going to be part of the expansion.

Same and that’s even after playing in today’s beta. It’s with out a doubt interesting content that is enjoyable but the current game feels so horribly stagnant it needs something ASAP long before the expansion drops. The content/story void since the SW patch landed has been far too long now.
(edited by NeuroMuse.1763)
I was hyped for the original launch. And the hype wasn’t even diminished for me when launch came. A couple months later, with the announcement of ascended gear, however…. the hype started to drain.
When HoT was announced, I can’t really say I got hyped. Interested? Yes. A little hopeful? Yes. But not hyped.
Setting out to do skill (hero) challenges on all my characters to make sure they don’t lose the progress they currenty have drained away most of that interest and hope.
Not anymore. When they first introduced it I was optimistic that I would see it released within half a year, but now I am losing hope fast. Also with the slow as molasses trickle of information we are getting at this point they seem to be dragging it out even more.
I might be a bit happier if they had not abandoned the core game to give us this hyperbole of what we will be getting, but without any real content to fill the gaps the game at this point is just one gem store sale after another.
Why would I be hyped when the forums say it’s going to blow dolyak chunks? I mean, everyone’s telling me it’s going to be a total waste of time and money, so why get hyped for it?
I’m more hyped about reaching the Claret Hollows.
This has nothing to do with the fact I’ve got more time to play my 3DS lately than my PC.

I just played the demo and I see a lot of potential there. So that helped my hype a bit.
