On top of that, they said a way to acquire precursors by playing the game was coming years ago. Hopefully, people that don’t buy the x-pac will still be able to use the new system to make them.

The new borderlands maps in WvW were also included in the talk yesterday as part of the x-pac. Does that mean that people that don’t buy the x-pac don’t get to play WvW on the weeks that those new borderlands maps are the rotation map?

I can understand not getting to play the new PvP mode if you don’t buy the x-pac, but the WvW maps are going to be interesting. If everyone can still play WvW when those Borderlands maps are active, then why put them in the conference yesterday as part of the x-pac?

First of all considering that a races in this game have their own zone, city and story we are not gonna have a new race in this game. Arenanet is not Blizzard who is the only company that has the resources to add a new class and a new race and a new area for it and new skills and new stories and another area besides that in one expansion. It sucks but when you are small you do small things.

Or… you could atleast wait a few weeks before you call the expansion to small.

You don’t even know how many zones there is. Heck we don’t even know if there is a new playable race though we can pretty much say that there isn’t but they havent said that there won’t be a new playable race.

Even if there would only be one Zone how can you say it is small? It could be one zone but it could be the size of all maps combined. There is so much we don’t know and you already complains that the Expac is to small? jiieez there will be people complaining all the time…

Players: We want an expansion!!!
Anet: Okay, here is an expansion we have worked realy hard to get to you.
Players: Give us Free content!!!

Do you even know how huge Maguuma is?? Just log in and go check the map right now, It’s 1.5 times the size of Kryta, and we get 3 level for this region, that’s like 15 new maps.

Some must fight so that all may be free.

It’s amazing how some know so much about so little. I want this power! All they went over were the macro, big picture, general, top-level details. They aren’t going to go all out when they can string it out over a period of time that can be featured at other events. It would be a terrible marketing strategy to do otherwise. Guild halls alone could be tied to raiding for all we know (which we don’t) to unlock ways to build/expand upon.

To come out so confident with a blanket statement with so little knowledge of all the details makes you look like one of those children in the movies stamping their feet screaming I want, I want, I want! But, carry on.

TLDR: QQ why do i have to pay for stuff i wan’t it NOW!#

Clearly to lazy to use the world map and zoom out to see just how big the Maguuma Wastes and Magus Falls is. Its ok I’ll wait why you go and check for yourself so i can enjoy watching you eat your own words. After all its only a stupidly massive area we are talking here, close to half the size of the map we have unlocked right now but for some that just not not good enough. Seams like expatiation size content to me.

I’m sure there are folks at ArenaNet who live in stark terror that someone on the internet will declare ‘hey, this bundle is not big enough’.

But they’re gonna release what they’re planning to release anyway.

Maybe they aren’t that terrified .

I still can’t see how somebody can derive that without them detailing the zones, and us (or somebody streaming) how big they really are. We don’t know how many class specializations, if there are or are not new weapons. We don’t know the scope of guild halls or the details of new challenging group content, and so on and so forth. You guys are just impatient and little crazy if I may say so.

I knew there would be one of these posts just like when Star Wars Tor released thiers…. stop! What was given at PAX was an overview with not much detail. You don’t even know exactly what is coming… it could be 10 maps… there were at least 8 maps in GW1 in the Maguuma area. All we know is the area is being called the heart of Maguuma. The mastery system sounds promising… yes it is 1 new profession but the remaining 8 are being expanded somehow so that could be considered 10 new professions… stop the Guild Hall QQ they are coming and that is really all that matters. This is without a doubt an expansion! It is without a doubt exciting and I can’t wait to play it! If you hate it that much…. don’t buy it. See…. it’s that is easy!! Have fun and good luck!

How many zones are the other regions anyways?

Actually nevermind, I looked it up. Excluding Orr, each region is 6-7 combat zones and each includes at least 1 full city (2 include 2).

Even if we count silverwastes and drytop as part of the new region, there are likely 4-5 zones (promised to have 3 layers each) and a city in the world.

First and foremost, I have to get this off my chest: no new race is really not a big deal. It’s one of the most hallow things they can possible add. Counting a skin, because that’s essentially what it is, as a major feature is ludicrous. I can understand the desire for it, but don’t misrepresent how big it is.
New race lore and areas are things that we are actually getting, we just can’t play as the races in question. It’s really just a skin.
Not to mention the negative impact extra races has on development… (need for more armor and animations every time they add something to the game).

Honestly, I don’t really understand those who wanted an expansion so badly. The patches already gave us any type of content we could ask for from an xpac, the only difference being the packaging. It’s just asking to pay for something we’ve been getting for free all this time.
That said, it is fairly spoiled to now complain about having to pay for content, especially in light of all the free content we’ve gotten since release.

And we don’t actually know how big this is going to be. All we’ve gotten thus far is a vague outline of major features. We have no idea how these things will work or how big they are.

Just cause they didn’t say it doesn’t mean there aren’t any. And its more than likely there are a few. But no-one outside of Anet knows yet. Same for how many map locations. No-one outside of Anet knows yet.

Specializations (only one weapon added to each profession and not giving universal weapon usage amongst all professions.)

Again there isn’t a lot of information on this yet. Speculation hopes for more than one per class. But if its only one we can hope that its one PER expansion.

Guild Halls, should have been in the game at launch. Stronghold , same thing.

Undeniable for Halls! Stronghold within the first year yes. However Halls didn’t have to be BIG and could have over time been enlarged.

CORE GW1 was released with so many of these features plus TEMPLATES!

Actually Templates didn’t come in for many years I remember being annoyed that I couldn’t save setups and the day they did release template saves the GW’s 1 community cheered with great gusto. Also there were LOTS of things that were NOT in GW’s 1 during the core game’s first few years of life that should have “been” (according to the community).

I say expansion is too big of a word for this.

Again not enough is known. So how can you say this? Are you a Anet developer? Have you seen the “expansion” in full?

I would rather call this
" If you don’t buy it you will be left behind." I will buy it of course but it just doesn’t feel right to call this small DLC that could have been free an expansion.

Expansions for GW1 didn’t include new races. What we got were new classes, new profession-specific weaps, new areas, new storylines, new skills, etc.

I was satisfied with the standalone-slash-expansions for the original games and have found the Living World and other add-on content fairly enjoyable.

Even if HoT isn’t a large expansion, ANet has earned enough of my trust over the years for me to know that the ride – even if it’s not quite perfect – will be worth the cost of admission.

Really feels like I am paying for a fix

Yes, because every bit of content imaginable for an MMO can be included at an acceptable price point on release day one. Born perfect and never needing to change or grow.

That is because the lore only allowed one playable race and that is human. You start with 1 race there but in here there are more playable races like in WoW an people think that because WoW had new races in its expansions there will be one here also. They are wrong because Blizzard was a lot more resources to do that.

We have NO IDEA what this expansion holds for the game. We don’t know if there are no new dungeons. We don’t know if professions are locked to just one new weapon. Even though Guild Halls or Strongholds were not released at launch (and they should have) they, at least, are being added.

I am really annoyed at people hating on this release. Have you considered waiting for all of the information to be revealed, in detail, before hating on just the very brief details available to us? Maybe not judge a book by its cover?

There’s nothing wrong with assuming/guessing/hoping for things to happen in this release, but getting upset over what the expansion doesn’t have doesn’t make sense to me, especially with the very little information we have about it.

All I’m saying is, wait for when ANet starts the weekly details on each feature before complaining about it.

He has definitely seen every new guild hall and logged hundreds of hours in the wvw and pvp maps so he knows that they don’t even come close to comparable with the content we’ve got in living story. I am 100% sure that there will be no race because well because you have to make another personal story and I am very sure that the personal story took at least 20% of the game budget for the game.

Except:

“… but we absolutely are going to do sweeping new features that you would traditionally only get in expansions – large regions, content and progression additions to your characters in the form of growth and professions and races. Those are all things that you will see in the lifespan of Guild Wars 2.”

Yeah there might be but I doubt it I just think is to expensive to be worth the cost and in the end Arenanet are business. I just do not believe it its just to expensive for the company. Look at SWOTOR do any of you think that they will ever have new class stories because I do not they simply lack the resources and ArenaNet is in a simillar situation.

slightly bigger – EotN had no additions in professions
basically it was phew map a little main quest to play phew dungs some skills and some armors…. and titles

meanwhile HoT brings new profession and specialisations so I’d classify it somewhere between expansion and new campain though (new campains unlocked whole continents and added 2 classes not one :P)

I have learned long ago bro that community in-game is totaly other thing than community on forums – especially when you don’t mean subscription-based games where to be able to write on forums you have to have you sub payed

f.e. In-game you can freely start random discussion on map with random people and no one will be btching on that

Of course you played HoT and you know exactly how big it is…

One new profession and one specialization for each of the existing ones, we don’t know how game-changing these specializations will be, but they already said we will get new skills, traits and weapons for old professions. Even if we get one traitline, one new mechanic per profession, one new weapon (5 new skills) and one healing skill, that’s way bigger than anything we got so far.

They didn’t say 3 new maps. They said 3 new biomes, that’s rather different, I guess they know the Maguuma as we see it in the map is limited and won’t be able to “host” many zones, so they split them vertically in 3 floors. You can say Southsun Cove, Silverwastes and Drytop, one on top of the other is one of the new zones (a tiny part of the Maguuma) so how you say we get few maps is beyond me.

Stronghold should’ve been there at launch? Why? It’s a completely new Game Mode for PVP no matter how you say it.

Core GW1 didn’t have templates, get your facts straight…. unless you call “core GW1” the game after EotN for some reason.

Arenanet is not Blizzard who is the only company that has the resources to add a new class and a new race and a new area for it and new skills and new stories and another area besides that in one expansion. It sucks but when you are small you do small things.

As a matter of fact ANet was not only capable of adding new zones to the game but it used to be able to add whole new continents with every GW1 expansion. Elona and Cantha were huge while still providing access to a bunch of new skills, two new professions for every campaign (four in total), vast number of new PvP modes (Fort Aspenwood) and elite dungeons etc. etc.

So you see ANet used to be way above everything Blizzard ever did. What happened, well… I don’t think that’s something we will ever find out.

never change, Arenadrones, never change. I fully agree with OP, I was watching the presentation, and once it was done, I just asked myself – and that’s it? Guild Halls and (very limited) GvG are nice but those are things which should be in GUILD WARS since release. Specializations (there is a rumour going around that there will be only one per class, which would be laughable), mastery (which is apparently limited only to new locations) and one new class are not enough to sell expansion. I’m sorry, but many MMOs give this much of a content in free patches.

i really wish gw2 would be so dissapointing that people like the op would leave and just go somewhere else. but reality is gw2 must be really good when people with so much negativity stick to it

What happened, well… I don’t think that’s something we will ever find out.

what happened is the future. more details = more work. adding movement in the height = more work. no more instanced gameplay and a real mmo = more work. scaling events instead of static quests = more work. etc etc etc

I will just say my humble opinion, it’s their first expansion, they have experience from GW1 for sure but still they need to see what people will like/dislike about this expansion to make a better one later on, you know that it’s the worst thing to do as a game developing company is to enrage the players and of course ANet isn’t stupid to do such thing.
Still i believe they might release more features later on just to satisfy the players, not gonna lie i’m already satisfied.

Compare what is comparable please. Maps in GW1 are horribly flat and dull and designed for a part of (most of the time) 8 players. Because fo the few constraints, Anet has been able to create entire continents in 6 months. This does not hold for GW2, a true MMO with much more constraints.

The skill balance was wonky and difficult because of overabundance of skills. Most of them being un-used btw.

Also, keep in mind that they have elected to keep the max level identical and not introduce a new tier of items. That’s two feature less compared to WoW because of this.
