Verdant Brink is...
-A pain in the kitten to navigate.
-Full of powerful and bothersome yet irrelevant mobs
-Required for hero points that are necessary yet a pain in the kitten to get.I had same reaction at first too. But after some time and especially after unlocking Gliding 5 i started to enjoy VB. Especially flying in the canopy level.
If you find mobs frustrating change you armor for more tanky one Knight’s/Valkyrie/Soldier’s/Commander’s etc.
I’d argue that going for tankier specs makes it worse, since most attacks in HoT are along the line of ‘dodge or you go down’. Maybe it helps for a single mob if you really want to learn the animations, but if you’re part of the ‘what is dodging’ crowd, you’re actually better off stacking your damage. The onehitters in HoT have paper armor as well.
On topic, all of that is subjective, obviously. I found Verdank Brink pretty straightforward and the different levels of the map (abyss, ground level, canopy) actually help with navigation, unlike in Tangled Depths.
And most HP challenges are soloable after the nerf, if you don’t feel like getting people to help you.
VB is one of the best maps ever designed for people who love 3D.
Remember a few thing: gliding (especially the one that makes you never loose endurance anymore) makes it waaaay easier.
This map takes practise. Once you know a few ways to get really up high and go from high ‘updraft pillar to another’, you can reach next to all canopies, even without chopper.
The mobs are challenging but there are ways to deal with that.
And the map is a good mix of forest and silverwaiste dessert, and mordrem influenced looks. I like it. If you complain a bout a map to navigate, complain about Tangled Dephts That map is WAAAAAAAAAAAY harder.
No excuse anymore for not giving ‘hide mounts’-option
No thanks to unidentified weapons.
I love VB. It’s probably my favorite map. Certainly the most polished of all the new maps. And yeah, if you dislike VB you are going to violently hate TD.
you are indeed correct, i despise maguma to such extent that i decided to burn my “Christmas money” on HearthStone pacs rather than upgrading account here.
I wander what are they going to do when in a couple of months people get fed up with maguma and the content required is essentially unsoloable.
I wonder what you’re going to do when you find out you’re mistaken. There are plenty of people who don’t like Maguuma. There are plenty of people who love it. By plenty I mean a lot. Enough to fill a zone certainly and that’s all you really need.
What people don’t seem to understand is that their opinion doesn’t mean everyone or even most people feel that way. My opinion certainly doesn’t mean it.
I prefer the expansion maps to the original maps, yes, even Tangled Depths. But I don’t prefer them all the time. When I want to relax, I go to lower level zones.
Last night I logged in to Verdant Brink, usually one of the most populated maps. Basically it went like this.
Enter zone, spend about 10-15 minutes working events to get participation bonus, at about 40% bonus, server notice “You will be moved to another more populated server in 59 minutes or can volunteer”. Ok, so I lose my participation and choose the option to move. Guess not enough people are on this map or left it.
Choose option to move and enter VB map again, spend another 10-20 minutes working events to get participation, at about 50% participation bonus, server notice again “You will be moved to another more populated server… blah blah blah”. Sigh, ok so I have to lose my bonus again because not enough people on the map.
Choose option to move and enter new VB map again, spend about 40 minutes, at about 125% bonus, yep here it comes again “You will be moved to another more populated server…”
That happened about 5 times. After the 5th time I simply finished the event I was working on and logged off, didn’t even bother to wait for the day\night cycle because my bonus would not be at 200%.
This is the consequence of the new map systems in HoT.
You could say it’s a mega-server bug, but I think the real problem is these maps are getting less and less populated. Meaning this notice is popping up more and more. Losing your participation bonus that they STILL have not fixed to allow carrying over to the same map is not only annoying but unacceptable. The maps are simply not sustainable without significant population active in the map, and this problem will only get worse over time.
i look forward to your thread about tangled depths
lol NO KIDDING HAHA
I honestly dislike the new maps. They’re cool – they had some stuff going for them but if I had a choice I wouldn’t go back there. Luckily for Anet I don’t have a choice.
The only cool part of the new maps is Tarir – which is cool. AB itself isn’t that bad but TD should just be deleted. I dislike that map so much it’s not even funny.
The maps are as they should be initially you stroll into the jungle with zero masteries everything is confusing and dangerous . After you spend some time in the maps doing events etc you learn the lay of the land , learn some masteries and soon enough you are flying through the trees like friking tarzan.
TD is the best maps in this respect once you understand it you find tons of short cuts and easy ways round and it is actually the quickest of the new maps to navigate without using waypoints. This is true progression and one of the things the new exp did best.
At first I found all the maps confusing, difficult, and in credibly annoying. Getting a full glider mastery and nuhoch wallows helped a lot with that. Getting familar with the maps makes it much easier, and not just with the terrain, but with event timing.
For example, in DS, some vistas/pois are much easier to get in a map that doesn’t have an organized meta, whereas others require successful completion to be accessible. Some maps are a little more relaxing because the events are more straight forward, and have a little downtime in between. Others are really intense and non-stop action.
Funny how Orr seems so easy after this.
The thing I dislike though is having so many mastery points and collections locked behinf the adventure scores. I like the adventures ok, but I suck at them, and it’s a just kind of a bummer that so many things seem out of reach because of that.
To me VB is somewhat OK, what I can’t stand about it is that the canopy is not accessible unless some events are done at certain times so all the helicopters are available and also, since it is the 1st HOT map in line it requires far too many masteries to access everything you need to access from it.
The canopy is 100% accessible at all time with Advanced Gliding(except maybe Patriarch’s platform). Most of it is accessible all the time with just updraft.
You can get up to the highest point per updrafts if Iam not mistaken. And from there you can reach everything easily.
But like you said, you need advanced gliding for it and know where to start.
Really didn’t like VB.
Then I got to TD.
Now VB feels like a dream.
IMHO TD is the best map, BECAUSE is complicated
After all i LOVE JPs…anyway after you learn the main “ways” it becomes easy like any other map
Wat r u, casul?

TD is very interesting. I do like it; I just have no idea where I’m going.

Eh, I can see why you think that, I enjoy getting lost and finding new things as well. The only problem I have with TD is….well it’s something like this.
“Oh look! An event, I’ll go and help, proceeds in direction, hits wall, discovers it’s above me, doubles back, uses mushrooms, navigates another maze, finds event 3/4 done*. -_- Dang it.

Some of the updrafts around the platform only show up when the patriarch is up.
