Let me just make it clear, I personally think this expansion looks awesome and I’m ready to throw my money at Anet to get it.
So this isn’t intended to be a list of stuff “missing” complaints (in fact I think lots of folks are glad some things aren’t going to be part of the expansion)- just things that we’ve speculated about that we now know or think won’t be included.
(Almost) definitely:
And also sounds like:
Did I miss any of the other big points of speculation?

Mounts: well, we have flying now. Not sure that counts as a “mount”, but it sure augments the way you travel.

there are new weapon types.
new weapon skills from new available weapons per class. The weapon itself is just a model/skin that holds 5 skills.

Fair point. To me it seemed pretty clear that the gliding/updraft/etc mechanic is going to be a method of progressing to access new content, rather than pure speed/cosmetic mounts like in other MMO’s, but it’s definitely a very interesting new movement mechanic.

Not sure I understand. That’s new weapon skills, for the classes that can now use existing weapons, no? As opposed to new weapon types?

At this point we can’t talk about anything being definitely. Although I’d say we’re hovering 80-90% on what might not be included.

Well, we’re 100% on the level cap and gear stuff, because that was a selling point. But yes, definitely fair point on everything else. I changed the topic for ya.

There will not be any new weapons introduced to the game as a whole.
But every profession will be able to use a new weapon from the existing selection. Like necros using greatswords and rangers using a staff. And of course they’ll get new weapon skills to go with them.

Ah yes that’s a good point. Added.
Although who knows, that might end up as part of the overall guild expansion- declaring war on another guild, etc.
I would imagine they would have wanted to lead with that though!

Yeah, between you and Justine (Dresden fan?) you have a good point. Edited to mention that for clarity.

It seems that the new stronghold pvp mode is intended to be an “evolved” gvg.

To be fair, the whole New PVE thing got lumped together. For all we know it could include raid content. They did say group content would be a big part of it.

There is a high chance ’’raids’’ and dungeons are added in the new region.
However, I don’t see them adding a new system called raiding system.

Yeah I thought of that too, but I think it’s fair to say there’s still no expansion to individual housing. The fact that a guild can have a single player is sort of a loophole, yes, but given that already individual vanity guilds are limited in what they can attain by the guild mission mechanics, I think it’s still a reasonable thing to say.

- Dungeons
- Raids
- Races
- End to all zerker all dps
- Complexity to dungeons
- Non-heavy classes
The first two points aren’t confirmed. They may be added to the new region. Not a new raiding system but perhapd, raid-like content in the new maps.

Of course…i think after all the free updates theyve done, asking money for a full fledged expansion is not too harsh tbh

Yep, that was a pretty common speculation- in fact more generally it was “factions”, like horde vs alliance in WoW. I’ll add that too.

I’m trying to make it really clear that this is not a list of complaints.
Personally I’m not upset about any of this. It’s just that there’s been a lot of speculation and it’s just as valid to say what it looks like won’t be in this expansion versus what is.
Some of it was stuff people were actually really worried about, for the most part, and glad not to see!

On top of this, a guild hall will probably take ridiculous amounts of grind to furnish compared to play housing could/should since, technically, a guild has up to 500 (is that right?) people adding to it’s form of currency.
Edited: I’m happy for a lot of what IS coming out though, and there’s always future expansions people.

Good point and I was thinking the same thing, but really that remains to be seen. They weren’t quite that specific on what type of content would be in the Jungle yet.

Well, according to their FAQ (https://help.guildwars2.com/home);
Q: When is the next big feature reveal for what’s coming in this expansion?
A: We wanted to reveal Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns when we were ready to talk about every major feature we’re planning. That’s why right now, every major feature planned for Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns is there for you to check out at http://heartofthorns.guildwars2.com. That said, there are so many details left to uncover and share with you, to show you, and to eventually let you play as we take you on the journey from now through launch.
… every major feauture was revealed or mentioned.
As far as I know, dungeons/raids and new races are major feautures in the MMO genre. What would MMOs be without dungeons and races?

As other people said this isn’t a list of things we’re disappointed about, just things which aren’t in it. For some people it’s really good news.
For example I’m really happy that they’re not raising the level cap or adding new equipment tiers.
Although when I watched the stream I thought that was a bit ambiguous. If I remember correctly all he actually said is our max level characters and max tier equipment will still be max level/tier. That could mean they’re boosted automatically (like how legendaries became ascended when ascended weapons were added).
But that may have just been my own paranoia, since everyone else seems to think it’s been confirmed and I’m willing to accept that as confirmation for now.

No raids (no explicit raid-group-only instanced content)
This is actual ingame content, of which they revealed very little. It may very well be there, or not, just because they didn’t announce it. There could very well be bosses in the maguuma as big as tequatl and EJW

Very true- in fact I’m quite certain there will be and I’m freaking excited about it! :P
But those are really massive world events and world bosses. By raid I’m specifically talking about what people were speculating about- which was essentially dungeons with a much larger number of people required.

Please clarify ‘formal GvG elements’. There are a lot of definitions these days.
GW1 style? WvW style?
Stronghold is basically Gw2’s iteration.

Yeah they also called those ridiculously easy achievements from season 2 ‘a challenge’
so it remains to be seen if it’s challenging for your average spam#1 zergling or actual organized pve groups/guilds.
I’d love to be able to kill epic bosses with my guild, not this open world stuff with hundreds of other players that render my individual contribution completely meaningless.

I think its important to understand the difference between game systems and game features.
A new class is a new game system – it changes the way the game is played. A new dungeon is a game feature – it is just something new to do with the base game systems.
Today’s announcement focused strongly on ways the base game will change – in other words, game systems. I fully expect new content (new zones, new dungeons, bosses, etc) to come through continued updates to the living story. I see the two as very different things.

We also know nothing about Stronghold, for real… we assume the team size is 5v5 but it isn’t set in stone. Same can be said for their “challenging group content” we do not know if that implies open world or not, we simply assume so. This list of things not in HoT is based at least as much on assumptions as the list of features that we know is in HoT.

- No new weapon types (per class yes, but overall to the game no)
Did you not see Rytlock slash at that mordrem with a spear. On land?
That’s a new weapon – even if it’s a cheat so Anet doesn’t have to add new models to old sets (they can just take the underwater version and make it on land too; like they do for some tridents sharing models with spears).
