There’s a lot of people siting on a lot of gold.I saved up 11k just for legendary armor just to find out im locked out of getting it as it behind raids. And im not one of the chosen few in a guild running raids.Seems crazy to lock the vast majority of players out of legendary armor.

It would be very, very disappointing if majority of the players are allowed to “buy” their way to a legendary armour. We had that for the first generation legendary weapons, and personally, I would prefer not to see a recurrence for legendary armour.

Raid only takes time when you are learning it, after you can handle it consistently you can:
Knowing that Vale Guardian fight last for 7 mins, Gorseval also last 7 mins, and Sabetha is 10 mins?
Raid state only resets once a week, so you can enter Monday and kill VG, lets say it takes 30 mins for about 3 tries, next day you try Gorseval since VG will be dead, and you try for 30~40 mins, and the next day you kill Sabetha and done, you finished the weekly raid playing around 30 mins a day and only 3 days in the week.

What about the time taken in between each boss? The three before VG, The Capture points followed by the run to Gor, Followed by whatever you need to get to Sab.

What are the times on each of those?

I do think your off the mark time wise by quite a bit.

The thing I LOVE about dungeons is that most times at the most even in a bad group it would take you 40 mins. I have a life outside of GW’s 2 and yet I want to do the stuff inside of GW’s 2 because I’m not locked into it for HOURS on end. And yes I understand what your saying about 1 at a time per day. HOWEVER what happens when you have someone new in the group who needs to get VG done before Gor.

There is even an achieve to kill the 3 “bosses” before the VG under 10 seconds (between the death of the 1st and the 3rd, the fight last about 1~2 mins) …
The torch, capture, wall break before Gorseval takes ~10 mins and the bandits before Sabetha also takes about 10 mins, so it will increase about ~30 mins (counting possible mistakes and breaks) in the whole week.
Well … about the new player, it is a different issue, Raid takes almost no time after you learn it and the group is consistent, just like dungeons was, in the beginning of the game, players said that Ascalon Cataconbs explorable was impossible to complete, look at it now.

What I’m trying to say is, raid doesn’t lock “casual” players because it demands a lot of time, it locks because of its difficult, if you are very skilled player with little time to play (I’m talking about 3 hours per week), you CAN raid without any issues, just like if you have all the time of the world and is not very skilled/organized, you won’t finish the raid.

The bottom line is that anet make this game to earn money and if they lock a large chunk of the player base out of legendary armor why would they bother to buy gems and turn them to gold.the last gen of legendary accounted for buy far the biggest reason to buy gems.Do they want make content players will spend money on or content to keep the top few% of skilled players happy.

Not everyone is entitled to raiding, sorry – not sorry.

Raiding is for those who want to play their profession to the highest point possible and against the highest tier of difficulty. This was even said when they were announced, either learn how how to do that or run some World Bosses or take up a different Legendary Journey.

I can’t tell you how many times my small guild wiped on Vale Guardian, but eventually after sixty wipes or so we did it, and now we have him on weekly farm. Gorseval we’ve almost got as well. Be persistent if this is something you really want and you’ll get there.

There are many things in HoT which need to be addressed – this just isn’t one of them.

I agree that this isn’t one of the things that needs immediate attention to keep the game going in any meaningful way.

With that said however, I distinctly remember an Anet cartoon published on their GW2 development website prior to launch lampooning games, and possibly players, where you would have to break out a calculator and certain armor combinations to succeed in a single dungeon/instance. The point was that GW2 was a game where that wouldn’t happen.

How things have changed. I left WoW, with my money, specifically because I felt WoW was a stats driven, spreadsheet simulating game and if you didn’t get a specific armor with a certain trinket, plus some other non-sensical doodad (none of which I could ever figure out even with the wikis, etc.), you weren’t going to succeed. As a result, I felt I could never get to the end content, or if I did I would just get booted for being underspec’d.

When I saw GW2 and their promise to the player during development, I was elated that there was a game that was being made for those of us who would be totally happy putting the time and effort to be skillful at the game (that was the original intent) and, with enough practice, be able to reasonably access ALL the content the game has to offer…after all, you paid for it.

I get that there has to be an end content to the game and I also understand that there should be something to distinguish players who go the extra mile. But, I think a highly organized 10 man raid with a very specific set of armor requirements is asking a bit much from what was the anti-WOW crowd. As it is for me, I find it hard enough to find 5 players I know personally to organize for a dungeon, so thank God most of them can be PUG’d now. Beyond that, guilds are collapsing every where and those still intact have enough for one group with leftovers who don’t have enough for a second group.

So where am I going with this? If Anet wants to break into the “hard-core” crowd and steal from WoW/Wildstar/Archage/etc., I feel my time to move onto another game has come. Now, this is coming from someone, who isn’t afraid to put time and effort into the game (including several legendaries pre-HOT). I have had a wonderful time since launch with the game. In addition, I don’t view the hundreds of dollars I’ve spent on the game since launch as a waste because I had reasonable access to all the content the game had to offer and it entertained me. But now I’m seeing the very same trends that drove me away from WoW and I’m neither entertained or amused, raids not withstanding. I know I don’t only speak for myself on this, and that’s probably one reason why every aspect of the game feels rather empty lately.

Exactly how I see things. As this game caters more and more to the well organized elitery crowd, it’s probably time to move on. Gone the time where you could wear what you felt comfortable with, gone the time of no enrage timer.

The game feels more and more like the games I left.

I don’t agree with the OP. But I don’t agree with the fact that some people think legendary don’t gives any advantages either.

Swap stat where and when you want is totally an advantage. I don’t think you run content with 12 ascended set in your bag and swap it when you think it’s better for this boss to use this set and not the one you wore at the beginning during the same content.

The arguments in this thread just shows how difficult (if not impossible) it is to please both the casual and hardcore gamers.

you either:
A) Create grindy challenging content for hardcore gamers. They are happy, casual players whine.

B) Create easy content for casual players. Hardcore players complain that there is nothing to do and content is too easy.

C) Create easy grindy content for both casuals and hardcore players. Both groups will complain. Casual players say they need to grind for 3 months, hardcore players say game is boring.

The original GW2 was mainly geared towards B ) and C) type content but HOT has so far only released A). Which MIGHT have been okay if they didnt nerf the rewards from B ) and C) to the kittening ground.

I think it’s fine as it is. Raid is hard, hard content MUST HAVE better rewards. And people that down raids DESERVES these rewards. I don’t know why you complain, sorry but if you want to be a special snowflake, look forward to it, do a static and do the hard content.

If you don’t want to do hard content, then you can’t have these rewards, you don’t deserve it. This game isn’t FFXIV where raids are totally useless other than challenge. And thanks Anet for that.

And I haven’t touched raids content, I’m just a fractal player almost casual.

Hope Gw2 will continue with hardcore content although I think it’s pretty simple for things called “hardcore”.

Just because people disagree with him he insults them. But like you said, his position has no merit. Anet did not lie. When and if they add a new tier of gear with new stats THEN you can come out and say they broke their word, but they haven’t done that.

And believe me, when ascended gear was first announced I was one of the first people giving Anet the smackdown here on the forums. I was bloody furious. If you wanted to accuse them back then of breaking their word, then you would have better standing. But not for this. This entitlement kitten has got to stop… and the no time excuse for raids is utter BS… entire raid was beat in 16mins…. I mean come on not enough time? Content being to hard? What would rather do for legendary armor… pick flowers via gathering? That asidw

You are still more then able to aquire said gear… if your guilds won’t take due to your limitations you can always pug raids to get practice to get better to run with your guilds, or even beat it with pugs, if are 100% unable to overcome the challenge raids are giving you (ie can’t get mechanics down due to personal reasons) wait a bit and Guilds will sell raid boss kills…. I have 100% zero doubt that will be happening soon, it’s just like Arah at launch…. organized groups could barely get thorough it in a timely manner, now 1 guy can solo it and sell 4 spots to ppl who have trouble with it. Same will happen with raids where really good guilds will sell raid spots for gold.

No different then buying your mats or any other way you are suggesting to unlock the said best armor in the game…

Eldrin already has multiple ascended sets. It has already been explained that this is, in fact, superior to legendary (because of having multiple sets of runes). Eldrin has also been told by multiple people that there are guilds that don’t require people to speak on voice chat in order to raid. Those have been ignored.

And it’s still best in slot. Stop using this to support your “argument”, because it doesn’t.

Well… it’s a bit of a twisty thing, cause technically ascended is BIS in terms of effectiveness and has stayed that way, but due to the continuous addition of new stat types and the potential for these stat types to be necessary for certain builds or classes, and the heavy reliance on gear for making builds effective, there might as well be a gear treadmill… it is the process of getting a new set with new stats.

Is it as required for high-end content as in strictly treadmill games? Technically, no, but it’s not all that different from it either.

This is partly exacerbated by how hard it is to get a realistic view on class effectiveness in any given situation, outside of taking experts at their word and confirming it with your own anecdotal testing. It is all too easy for people to get it into their heads that a particular gear set is necessary for a build to be effective, while having little to no actual data on whether that’s true.

If data was easier to get, I’m betting it would put most of the stat types on the shelf as useless, for all but highly situational use. As it is, people already hone in on a few stat types (see: zerker meta) and sometimes go too far in trying to simplify what is effective, while not actually having evidence to back up their hearsay about effectiveness that they never bothered to vet.

For these reasons, I think ascended should eventually be given stat swap. I’m inclined to think that both legendary and ascended should be given rune swap as well. Then it would truly be BIS, no gear treadmill, and legendary would be something you get entirely for the sparkly appearance.

Unfortunately, I’m not sure this idea would ever make it past the economists, since it means that once you have one set of ascended gear, you never need another, unless you’re going for the skins or gearing up alts. Rune demand would drop significantly as well. I think it’s worth the hit to the market to keep the game’s reputation intact, but I’m not an economist either, so what the hell.

Or words to that effect.

I really hope they never ever add top tier items that are obtainable with gold. Gold (and gems, and real money) should be all about cosmetics, making legendary weapons available with gold was one of the most serious mistakes Anet did with this game.

I’m all for adding new ways of getting Legendary armor and I’m sure they WILL add some (remember Ascended Rings?) once the new-ness of Raids wears out, maybe after the Third wing is released. Even if it’s a different skin than the Raid skin, or has less particle effects or whatever.

However, giving the players the ability to buy things that aren’t purely cosmetic with real money, gems, gold was a dumb move and they are “solving” that, like the new precursors/legendary weapons, the legendary armor. The game needs more of that to feel rewarding, to get rewards from actually doing content and not farming the easy farms or spending cash.

If changing direction and moving towards a more rewarding game, content-wise, forces players who used real money to earn their rewards to leave, then so be it. Such a change in direction will make other players who left BECAUSE the game was all about the gem store, and spending money to earn gems, to come back.

Such a change in direction will make other players who left BECAUSE the game was all about the gem store, and spending money to earn gems, to come back.

if you think this game loosing players that spend real money and getting back players that dont is going to give you anything but a closed down game lol.

Spoiler alert, not everything is just given away.

You want legendary armor? Then clear the raids and get it. Don’t want to do raids? Then you can’t get the armor.

What if you simply can’t do raids?

A legendary weapon, doesnt matter what class or how much time you have or how good your leet skillz are, given enough time you can make it. If you suck so bad that can only make 1 silver per day you can still get that legendary weapon (it will just take you 274 years) or if you are mediocre, and make 10 gold per day (it will take you slightly over 3 months) or if you are really guud at 50 gold per day (3 weeks)

with legendary armor, if you are that crapy 1 silver per day guy cuz you suck so much at gaming or other medical issues… doesnt matter how long you play you will NEVER get it.

I will be honest. I don’t have much time anymore. (married, first kid, etc) i know with the time i have i can do 10 gold per day(roughly an hours play at night before bed). in 3-4 months i can have twilight or sunrise. (6 months for eternity)

Can’t say the same for legendary armor, given the fact that I only have 1 hour of gaming per day and that is when baby decides to sleep…

hearing about World of Warcraft’s raid guilds and having friends canceling parties or not going out for drinks because “they have a raid schedule, 3-5 nights per week” I swore to myself that i would never play a game that required that kind of real life restrictions to get the end game content.

the only reason I stick with GW2 is that legendary gear has the same stats as the ascended gear. so people who raid don’t have a mechanical edge over me… they just look fancier. but as soon as a raid item becomes 1 stat higher than anything else in the game I’m out.

No one should be at the point where they’ll never be able to clear raids.

Don’t have the gear? You can get it. Don’t have a good build? There’s a ton of guides online. Don’t know good rotations? Again, guides. Don’t know the mechanics? Practice and you will learn them.

I spent probably close to 10 hours on vale guardian the week it was released. First with a group friends, then a guild group, then another guild group, then my dedicated guild’s group. 4 days of at least 2-3 hours each day of attempts and never killed it. Fifth day we killed it in 20 minutes and now we have it on farm. Every week when it resets we run in and kill him within 30 minutes.

Anyone can clear the raid if they’re willing to put in the effort. For some people it will take more effort than others, but if you do put in the effort, you will be able to clear the raid.

Anet make Rev great again.

It’s a tough choice for Anet for sure. But how many people really pay to get Legendary items? How many people really prefer to use the gem store to get anything they need? I say it’s worth it to make a game rewarding by itself and keep the gold requirement as low as possible. If the game loses one player than spends loads of money on the gem store and in return gets a dozen who actually enjoy playing it, then it’s a clear win.

“Which content do I do to get what I want?” is a far better question than “Which content gives the most gold per hour?” for a good and rewarding game. Focusing everything on gold and gems isn’t the way to go.

They should have kept the shiny and unique skin for the raid, no problem, but allowed selectable stats armor outside the raid also, with whatever skin. Legendary weapons are not gained from raids, yet they have selectable stats. Why not armor too?
