Ok that is getting hilarious “not everybody has time” . IDK that’s the actual excuse for casual people when they can’t do something or not enjoy doing that thing? What? Everybody should be able to make a legendary armor? I think people these days want to costumize their own way on making something.

“Hmmm i want to make Twilight but i need Gift of Ascalon (500 ascalonian tears) for Gift of Darkness and also i don’t like dugeons , i should be able to choose what i want in order to make it!” (yea you can farm gold and buy it from TP, but isn’t that boring puting only gold on making something?)

Sorry for beign chessy but that’s how it sounds like.

getting 5000g to actually craft a full set will be the hard part.

Raid was meant for organized group, but as a pug the difference is that you’ll take much longer in the learning phase, but after a while many players will know the mechanics and the chances of succeed will increase, also the raid instance is tied to the commander that generate the instance, so if you succeed, talk with the squad commander and schedule another try.

Well you do get some tokens and gold just for trying one of the bosses. Not sure if you actually need to finish the whole thing numerous times to get the precursor though.

Raiding will get easier when it becomes “routine” to guild groups. Join a larger guild and wait for them to figure out the best comp then join their group when they have spots left.

As it is, I “don’t have time” either. Weekdays I’m too busy/lazy to try raids and weekends… Well, I often find myself doing fractals instead. Faster to get a group, faster to complete and 100% success/rewards guarantee. I don’t really want to wait around for everyone to figure out what they should bring. But that’s just me.

1)If you really want the legendary armor, I don’t see why working for it is a bad thing.

2)You saved up 11,000 gold for legendary armor but don’t want to spend a little while looking up videos and guides of how to beat the raid bosses then going out and doing it?

3) Legendary armor is cosmetic ONLY. It offers no stat advantage that Ascended can’t give. The only benefit is stat swapping that you can simply do with 2 sets of Ascended gear.

Therefore, the only thing Anet is locking people out of is a set of armor skin that isn’t going to give you any significant advantage or completely enhance your playstyle.

Legendary weapons were pretty much available to anyone, given a variable amount of time. I like that, because it gives everyone a thing to work towards, whether you are a master at the game or simply a casual player having fun.

Legendary backpack is locked behind fractals. That’s already a big difference in the sense that some people will be locked out of this because of their skill level. Is it fair that these people get no shot a the legendary backpack? What if ‘git gud’ doesn’t work?

Then legendary armor is locked behind raids, without a doubt an even harsher, much more difficult part of the game. If you take a gander at the collection, you’ll see that one will probably have to beat all bosses in several raid wings to get the precursors. That’s just not going to happen for a lot of GW2 players. Anet even said as much.

Is this fair? I don’t think it is. I feel that legendary gear must be available to all, but the rate at which you gain it should or can be skill gated. I certainly approve of skins locked behind raids, i approve those auras being a raid thing.

But legendary items were supposed to be a “journey”. Now they are not. They have truly become something for the elite, and to me that is disheartening.

Let me help you then since evil Anet doesnt have a system implemented for people in your unfortunate position.
If your guild doesnt want to raid with you, find out why. If you have the insight you should be able to evaluate your own performance, like ‘do i need to get better at x to reach this goal’. Or maybe your guild doesnt have enough people to make another raid, the possibilities are endless. Luckily you can easily find other guilds, i recommend large community ones as they often have several raids while many guilds in general take those that respond the fastest in chat.
You can also pug raids, check the lfg often, myself beat gorseval yday in a pug granted i was quite lucky to find skilled people – but its all about being aware and making sure u end up in true organized groups.

All it takes for u is to begin somewhere, make new friends and slowly built up a network.

Legendary armor has the potential to be truly legendary as one cannot solely buy their way to awesome skins, which unfortunately has been the past of gw2.

Then that is indeed unfortunate. Despite this i do believe there is such an open guild out there that would take u in and treat u right. One can only hope that as time goes by pugs can easier clear it without ts. The only reason a player wouldnt be able to do the raids would be due to not knowing the know how, but if u got that the rest shouldnt stop u so keep trying n dont give up.

Legendary armor is not just cosmetic

How so? I appreciate your plight, but if doing the raid isn’t an option, why not simply take the massive amount of gold you have accumulated and buy multiple sets of ascended gear to suit whatever needs you have? And you could convert some of it to gems to purchase more bag space to carry it if need be. Carrying multiple gear sets could be viewed as an inconvenience, but it is actually the superior alternative since you can have different runes in each set (and as far as we have been told, legendary armor won’t provide the ability to swap runes freely without removing/destroying the runes.

One last question. Are you able to listen in teamspeak if you don’t have to talk? I’m quite certain you could find a guild that would allow you to type in chat instead of needing to talk over a microphone if that were something you were able to do.

Skins go over your gear to change apearance.legendry gives the ability to change stats to fit the needs of what your doing and saves carrying multiple sets. And most importantly gives you something to work towards.at the moment my 11k sits there and grows.I honestly feel i have been misled by anent about there intentions for the game. And as it stands its not possible for me to make any further progress in the game.

Legendary armor needs to be acquirable another way, not exclusive to raids. Why? Because every other legendary requires you to do everything else in the game.

Similarly, ascended gear comes from multiple sources:
Rings drop in fractals, but can also be obtained from PvP reward tracks, WvW rank up chests, and bought via laurels. The story goes on with the other pieces of ascended gear. They all have multiple sources. So should legendary. I don’t see the old legendaries being locked to one specific mode such as WvW, do you?

There’s an easy way to fix this… 2 different legendary armor sets, one that can be obtained through skill (raids), the other through time (farming + gold)

Problem solved.

At least that’s what I would do, because yes, getting in a static raid team is not easy and is extremely restrictive (a lot of players will be left out) and Anet never got us used to that (even with GW1).

A legendary is like the ultimate goal for a lot of players, take that from them and I dont know what will be there left to do.

Raiding is for those who want to play their profession to the highest point possible and against the highest tier of difficulty. This was even said when they were announced, either learn how how to do that or run some World Bosses or take up a different Legendary Journey.

I can’t tell you how many times my small guild wiped on Vale Guardian, but eventually after sixty wipes or so we did it, and now we have him on weekly farm. Gorseval we’ve almost got as well. Be persistent if this is something you really want and you’ll get there.

There are many things in HoT which need to be addressed – this just isn’t one of them.

I agree that this isn’t one of the things that needs immediate attention to keep the game going in any meaningful way.

With that said however, I distinctly remember an Anet cartoon published on their GW2 development website prior to launch lampooning games, and possibly players, where you would have to break out a calculator and certain armor combinations to succeed in a single dungeon/instance. The point was that GW2 was a game where that wouldn’t happen.

How things have changed. I left WoW, with my money, specifically because I felt WoW was a stats driven, spreadsheet simulating game and if you didn’t get a specific armor with a certain trinket, plus some other non-sensical doodad (none of which I could ever figure out even with the wikis, etc.), you weren’t going to succeed. As a result, I felt I could never get to the end content, or if I did I would just get booted for being underspec’d.

When I saw GW2 and their promise to the player during development, I was elated that there was a game that was being made for those of us who would be totally happy putting the time and effort to be skillful at the game (that was the original intent) and, with enough practice, be able to reasonably access ALL the content the game has to offer…after all, you paid for it.

I get that there has to be an end content to the game and I also understand that there should be something to distinguish players who go the extra mile. But, I think a highly organized 10 man raid with a very specific set of armor requirements is asking a bit much from what was the anti-WOW crowd. As it is for me, I find it hard enough to find 5 players I know personally to organize for a dungeon, so thank God most of them can be PUG’d now. Beyond that, guilds are collapsing every where and those still intact have enough for one group with leftovers who don’t have enough for a second group.

So where am I going with this? If Anet wants to break into the “hard-core” crowd and steal from WoW/Wildstar/Archage/etc., I feel my time to move onto another game has come. Now, this is coming from someone, who isn’t afraid to put time and effort into the game (including several legendaries pre-HOT). I have had a wonderful time since launch with the game. In addition, I don’t view the hundreds of dollars I’ve spent on the game since launch as a waste because I had reasonable access to all the content the game had to offer and it entertained me. But now I’m seeing the very same trends that drove me away from WoW and I’m neither entertained or amused, raids not withstanding. I know I don’t only speak for myself on this, and that’s probably one reason why every aspect of the game feels rather empty lately.

What are the times on each of those?

I do think your off the mark time wise by quite a bit.

The thing I LOVE about dungeons is that most times at the most even in a bad group it would take you 40 mins. I have a life outside of GW’s 2 and yet I want to do the stuff inside of GW’s 2 because I’m not locked into it for HOURS on end. And yes I understand what your saying about 1 at a time per day. You really can’t use “exclusions” and “£3000” and “real life problems” as reason for Anet to remove Raid requirements for Legendary Armour – it was designed around being a unique and worthy reward for the game mode.

If you don’t want to Raid then you won’t get the Armour. You won’t be less powerful than people with it if you have Ascended.

You can still start at Gor, you choose which lock the group uses. Also Raids were designed to be more of a commitment than dungeons, asking for that not to be the situation is a little silly (they were put into the game SPECIFICALLY to be that longer content).

Spoiler alert, not everything is just given away.

You want legendary armor? Then clear the raids and get it. Don’t want to do raids? Then you can’t get the armor.

What if you simply can’t do raids?

A legendary weapon, doesnt matter what class or how much time you have or how good your leet skillz are, given enough time you can make it. If you suck so bad that can only make 1 silver per day you can still get that legendary weapon (it will just take you 274 years) or if you are mediocre, and make 10 gold per day (it will take you slightly over 3 months) or if you are really guud at 50 gold per day (3 weeks)

with legendary armor, if you are that crapy 1 silver per day guy cuz you suck so much at gaming or other medical issues… doesnt matter how long you play you will NEVER get it.

I will be honest. I don’t have much time anymore. (married, first kid, etc) i know with the time i have i can do 10 gold per day(roughly an hours play at night before bed). in 3-4 months i can have twilight or sunrise. (6 months for eternity)

Can’t say the same for legendary armor, given the fact that I only have 1 hour of gaming per day and that is when baby decides to sleep…

hearing about World of Warcraft’s raid guilds and having friends canceling parties or not going out for drinks because “they have a raid schedule, 3-5 nights per week” I swore to myself that i would never play a game that required that kind of real life restrictions to get the end game content.

the only reason I stick with GW2 is that legendary gear has the same stats as the ascended gear. so people who raid don’t have a mechanical edge over me… they just look fancier. but as soon as a raid item becomes 1 stat higher than anything else in the game I’m out.

And my problem is that up until now my 3k hrs and £3000 spent on the gem store got me all the best in slot gear.but now they do a 180 and im not worthy.i dont mind grind i maxed there mastery’s to 163 paying 250 gold to some guild raid to join there group for the last two mastery points. This game was an escape from all my real life problems now i just face the same exclusions.

Paying cash is not in any way relevant to the question if you are worthy or not, the fact that you seem to think it is in any way relevant, only shows a problem with the game.. how important gold is. Heck, you did even seem to proof that the game was P2W.

Anyway, why don’t you just ignore raids and keep yourself busy with other elements. There are elements of the game that I never or barely touch. There is no requirement to do raids, only if you really want legendary armor. But it’s only good that you cannot buy that with cash.

Completing a raid makes you ‘worthy’ of getting legendary armor. And honestly, they would do that with much more content. Completing dungeon X makes you ‘worthy’ of getting mini Y.

It’s just game design.

But legendaries r available to all, u just gotta work for it by doing different content. Like if i want to craft a vanilla legendary weapon i must get tons of karma, and u only get karma by doing specific events, same way legendary infusion is gained by doing specific events like raid bosses.

There are no stat advantages in getting legendaries, u are not entitled to get legendaries without effort. I have said this so many times, gw needs this kind of goals to strive for. All other skins can be bought or easily aquired without any sense of accomplishment, a feeling longed for in this mmo. When i see someone with an eternity i dont stop and think ‘wow gj at getting through all that work’ when for all i know he couldve bought it with gold. When we see fractal, raid backitems, aleast we know it was done through timegates and effort, as with the armor.

Thanks, OP. The very existence of this thread ensures that the people who parrot “you just want everything for free!” have something ridiculous to point to when they vomit that up daily.

Different legendary armor skins should eventually be available outside of raids. That sort of content is not for everyone and it would be a shame if only a minority got access to armor with swappable stats.

The best way to implement this though would be in the second expansion. Simply make the 2nd gen legendary armor acquirable by other game modes while the 3rd gen legendary weapons are raid only. Swapping the new legendary rewards between game modes seems like the best long-term solution for me and it ensures that raiders still have unique legendary skins.
